- Barry White could hear the hit potential of a song brought to him by songwriter Sterling Radcliffe called "You're The First, My Last and The In Between" that even the cowriter, Tony Sepe was skeptical of. You see, Barry wanted to pay Sterling back for his Christmas generosity to his kids one year when Barry was in financial straits.
Sterling never asked for a return favor. He did ask Barry to listen to his homemade demo of a country western style song he wrote that used the clip clops of horses to keep time. Barry rewrote the lyrics and added a new melody part to the song and went into the studio. Facing a deadline, he recorded the first version and while listening to the playback, knew that he was in trouble with that take and did not have time to figure out why.
The engineer ran the music again for a second take and Barry made up some new lyrics and a whole new melody as he went along, right in front of the microphone. The second take was the keeper and became Barry's third #1 R&B hit single. It peaked at #2 for two weeks on the Hot 100, unable to dislodge Elton John's "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds".

I am here. Because of the dark shadows movie, the newest movie based from the 1970s series dark shadows vampire TV series. So, I recognize this song from this scene where the vampire, and the witch are left alone and ( I think we know the rest ) this song is playing in the background in the movie. Oh my goodness, this is the best movie I'd ever seen with the best music. I'm 30 years old and my dad taught me the best music.
good movie soundtrack too...this song was also featured in the TV show Ally McBeal & had some funny dance moments & even a guest appearance from Barry White himself. I've seen weddings where they danced to it.

By the way, while listening to this (for the ???? time, it stopped on its own & there was a 3 to 5 second ad commercial of some yapping kids, sounded like a cartoon. I wasn't close to my phone to see what it was, but I do know, it's never been there before. Blessings, L :)

In 2007, a club DJ remixed and remastered this classic hit for hard core club fans around the world. On an early Monday morning (probably around 4am) when the thousands of clubbers at Crobar in South Beach had been dancing since 10pm Sunday night, the DJ (Monty Q) ceremoniously ended his set for the night. The crowd was not ready to go home as they hollered, yelled and clapped for more. Finally, Monty put on the extended remix of Barry White's; My First My Last My Everything. I thought the club was going to explode! Everyone: young people in their 20's, older people in their 50's and 60's, gays, straights, Latinos Blacks Whites and everyone in between crowded the dance floor. I thought to myself; Barry has to be so pleased that his legacy has reached so many different people - many of whom were either babies or not even born when this song came out. How many performers can make that claim? Thanks, Mr. White.
