My dad was a fisherman, and you gotta understand. It's like a big family heavily relying on this load of fish. You're not just letting one or two people down. In a lot of cases, we're talking one huge windfall that has to last the year. Without it you're in terrible trouble for the year, or most of it.
I know what your saying. My BIL was a fisherman, like his father, grandfather, brothers, uncles, etc. His family still are to this day. Not an easy life.
I’m from Qld, Australia and have lived up far north. Fishing is a lifestyle and livelihood for many. Planning a trip is a big deal, so much effort is put in and you have limited time to get your catch and make your money. I have a lot of respect for those that can do it (it’s intense physically and many guys do it in their 20s at their peak to make the big $$ I noticed, but you def work for it) 👍
I have been listening to Mr. Ballen since he first started, and I can say for certain, that this is my favorite youtube channel. I also love listening to Mr. Ballens podcast on amazon prime before I go to sleep. It's nice, because even some of his better episodes that I hadn't listened to in a while are still just as exciting. My favorite episodes of his are the ones about places people can't go. They just seem so uncomfortable, its almost fascinating. Again, favorite youtube channel.
I started watching Mr. Ballen, in 2019, my how he has grown!!! He is an awesome storyteller, and he has really found his calling after he got out of the service. Bless you and your family, thanks for all you do. I still give monthly to the Stronghold Rescue and Relief Fund.
Same here Sally. When my drinking problem developed into a full blown disaster, I would watch Mr B for hours until I passed out. Usually this terrible event would transpire on Sundays. Now when I hear the intro music, it sends a jolt of anxiety thru my soul. But, sober and growing in the right direction now. The intro always produces a tinge of anxiety though. Recovery does happen people! Thank you Jesus.

Been listening to Mr Ballen for about 3-4 years.....was bummed when he went exclusive with Amazon Prime and I'm soo happy he came back to Spotify. This guy's ability to hold your attention is crazy and I love him❤
I have to tell you, Mr. Ballen, after all the saturation on the news of the events of the last 24-hours in Pennsylvania, it is a real treat to have you upload two great new stories. Thank you, thank you!!
I saw when it first popped up, I swear it said 2 ways to “lose your head” and I gulped because of the man who lost his life at the assassination attempt. Now it see it says different, wonder if he changed it to be sensitive or if I was seeing things.
Mr. Ballen is one of the most unique storytellers. The way he uses his hands and overall body language to show the flow of the story is awesome. I also love the way he pours his emotion into every story as well. Finally, the best part is that he creates the perfect atmosphere to listen to the strange, dark, and mysterious. Mr. Ballen is the best at what he does. Keep up the good work!! 🙏 ❤
One aspect of Mr Ballen's work is his naturalness. In this age of fakeness and modified images, John goes before the camera and huge audiences as himself, and tells stories. All of us listeners have the screen of our imagination where they play.
You are such an excellent example of a good person, who overcame a dark period in life. Not only to overcome, but to entirely reinvent themselves, then take on and teach themselves an entirely new career. One that, in turn, has helped thousands and thousands of people. I have been watching you from the start dude and its mind blowing how much you have improved, how far you've come, and the level of success you have received from it. I'm just wanted to say hello to you after watching all these years. Keep up the awsomely great work my dude!! If you ever come to Canada, drop by st john's, NL!! Keep at it dude! Matt

Actors and acting are a dying field. The likes of UA-cam, and the DUST channel are putting them out of business. When Sony (a RADIO maker) can make a better movie than Disney EVER did... you know the world has changed dramatically...
I equally like the story of the man who built a teleporter and he kept waking up in different parts of the US, and the one from China where a rice farmer equally keeps waking up in different parts of the country and he doesn't know how he got there. Although the first one might not be 100% true.
I think I lost interest with That Chapter because he abandoned his original, fact-based and neutral approach, for a more irreverently glib and comedic style, signaling each joke with the same…clipped…speech…and awkward eye-rolling facial expression. It got a bit too repetitive. I’m pleased to hear the channel is still around; I don’t hate it. There are FAR worse ones.
@@MrBallen. I hate to say this, especially to you.. but "flowery cod" don't get that large. The biggest are routinely half that large. They are rarely half that large.

I'm in Australia and I lost a fisherman friend in the 70's, he fell off the boat from a freak wave off the coast in Queensland, he and his wife had 6 children. His wife went down to the beach every day for two years, waiting for him to come home. It was heartbreaking. Those fishermen get good sums of money if its a good haul, but if it's a bad haul ...no money. That's why the fishermen in the first story would have continued fishing. They would have had families to feed. It's a hard life.
Hi from the United kingdom. When you are talking its as though you are talking directly to me and im absorbed, you are a natural storyteller. Thank you

@@DatNegroRel He went to the police the following day. He went to the shelter for that night when he woke up and went the first thing in the morning to the cops. I shouldn’t be surprised because your work, as a whole, is so incredible but oh my god, I’m obsessed with Wartime Stories. I just discovered it once it came under the Ballen Studios umbrella and I should’ve fully trusted your taste, but I’m still kind of shocked at how amazing it is. I was not prepared. The stories, the voice, the visuals, the different accents for different individuals in the story, the specific style of narration. It’s so so good. I’m basically impossible to scare, at this point. I sit outside on my porch in the dark all night listening to scary podcasts like yours and never get scared, but after 2-3 episodes of Wartime Stories I had to get up and go inside because I was so paranoid I couldn’t stop looking out into my dark yard long enough to concentrate on the details of the episodes 😅 It definitely shows that the better something is scary or not has everything to do with the delivery because there’s just something about it that’s so fucking eerie.
I’m so glad I came across your channel. Your content is absolutely fantastic! I love the way you present your videos and the effort you put into each one. Keep up the amazing work! 🙌🏼

Speculation: Karl committed the perfect crime and his family was involved. He knows the heat is on so family members “kidnap” him. For certain reasons, he chooses Wyoming. He gets rid of all his personal possessions and makes himself comfortable in the ditch. After being on the lam for a few years, he decides it’s time to go home. Enter, Unsolved Mysteries. Of course, his wife is the one to watch that specific episode. Using the “I don’t know who I am” defense, he hopes it will mitigate punishment. AND IT DOES. Congratulations Karl!
I don't think Carl got entirely away with it. He was put on probation, which I know is a slap on the wrist, but having to pay back all the embezzlement money he took but claimed to have "lost" due to his amnesia doesn't seems a lot more harsh.
Ehh I feel like this just doesn’t add up though. Why come back at all? Why spend so long “pretending” to have amnesia? If he was lying it just seems like too many people involved to keep the secret under police questioning, and way too much effort for such a small crime. If he was trying to get away with it it sounds way easier to just disappear and not come back, pin the crime on a fake criminal who “made me do it,” or to sell drugs or get into some other organized crime to cover the debts. The story is just too easily disprovable if untrue.
@@nsblurHonestly, I’d do something like that under similar circumstances! At least that way I get to go back to my old life and close friends, ect.. This way you don’t lose anything important to you and also get outta jail time as a huge bonus!!.. But hey, that’s just me tho.. 😏🤷🏻♂️
Often, I imagine being one of Mr. Ballen’s fellow soldier friends and being spellbound by his storytelling skills. In this video he mentions the “military lore” that is all about the strange, dark, and mysterious happenings. I love listening to him when doing rather mundane household chores.

And the village
If I don't eat fish on Fridays I get really upset 😩
It sounds like a really intense line of work.
I’m from Qld, Australia and have lived up far north. Fishing is a lifestyle and livelihood for many. Planning a trip is a big deal, so much effort is put in and you have limited time to get your catch and make your money. I have a lot of respect for those that can do it (it’s intense physically and many guys do it in their 20s at their peak to make the big $$ I noticed, but you def work for it) 👍
I’ve been watching this guy for so many years now… it’s sooo cool to see how much his channel has expanded and grown

Crazy how I didn't consciously notice the body language because I'm so engaged in the story. I have the attention of a goldfish so good work. 👍🏻
I think he is right up there with the likes of Paul Harvey... maybe even better than Paul Harvey.
1st of all... poor Michael.
2nd of all... Pat being so polite and the police recognizing that is so wholesome... omg
Carl’s story absolutely might be the strangest story I’ve ever heard Mr. Ballen tell. It just doesn’t get much stranger than that.
I equally like the story of the man who built a teleporter and he kept waking up in different parts of the US, and the one from China where a rice farmer equally keeps waking up in different parts of the country and he doesn't know how he got there. Although the first one might not be 100% true.
The other story that I am fascinated by is the lamp one. Truly terrifyingly strange
yeah. maybe he was a fantastic scam artist, or maybe it was the truth. I'm just going to choose to believe this man was telling the truth.
Been watching wartime stories for 3 years now. Him, you and that chapter are my top 3 channels to watch

I get your point but I get it's dumb he didn't go to the police at the beginning with the way he woke up
@@DatNegroRel He went to the police the following day. He went to the shelter for that night when he woke up and went the first thing in the morning to the cops. Since he didn't know enough they could only check local missing and such. So, going as soon as he woke up wouldn't have helped much either since he still didn't recall anything other than the 3 names of his loved ones.

Kind of feels like it was a sacrifice to the waters they were hunting in.
My thoughts to.
I love speculation....😮
