    Mr. Ballen I found your channel about 9 months ago when I first became homeless. Through the winter living in my car I binged every single episode on your channel, I am still homeless today but because I’m up to date on episodes, every Sunday brings me back to those winter nights binge watching you.
    Those days when I was so scared about how I was going to survive, the amount of distraction and comfort you gave me during those times I will forever be grateful for. I’m still trying very hard to get out of this mess, it’s not easy. You give me a lot of motivation as a person to do better and strive for my goals. Thank you.
    Edit* Lots of people asking, I live in CT. My car broke down so I’m kinda stranded here until I get it fixed of course. Appreciate everyone who’s offered me a place to stay, couple people left an ignorant comment or two, just ignore them. Not everyone who becomes homeless uses drugs. Love to everyone here that enjoys the strange, dark & mysterious ❤️

    Something that goes underappreciated in your comments section is your objectivity, critical analysis without judgement, and that the only stories that you filter through are the most true stories you can find. With it being increasingly difficult to determine what is true on the internet, I really appreciate your due diligence in developing the credibility of your stories, as well as your own.

      English is my first language, but my accent doesn't allow me to say a lot of words correctly, for example horror just sounds like whore. This had lead to many awkward moments at the video store. So when I'm at work I have to use a gentrified accent for my coworkers to understand me, so eloquent speakers like Mr ballen helps me with that as well.

    I shouldn’t be surprised because your work, as a whole, is so incredible but oh my god, I’m obsessed with Wartime Stories. I just discovered it once it came under the Ballen Studios umbrella and I should’ve fully trusted your taste, but I’m still kind of shocked at how amazing it is. I was not prepared. The stories, the voice, the visuals, the different accents for different individuals in the story, the specific style of narration. It’s so so good. I’m basically impossible to scare, at this point. I sit outside on my porch in the dark all night listening to scary podcasts like yours and never get scared, but after 2-3 episodes of Wartime Stories I had to get up and go inside because I was so paranoid I couldn’t stop looking out into my dark yard long enough to concentrate on the details of the episodes 😅 It definitely shows that the better something is scary or not has everything to do with the delivery because there’s just something about it that’s so fucking eerie.

His wife went down to the beach every day for two years, waiting for him to come home. It was heartbreaking. Those fishermen get good sums of money if its a good haul, but if it's a bad haul ...no money. That's why the fishermen in the first story would have continued fishing. They would have had families to feed. It's a hard life.

    Speculation: Karl committed the perfect crime and his family was involved. He knows the heat is on so family members “kidnap” him. For certain reasons, he chooses Wyoming. He gets rid of all his personal possessions and makes himself comfortable in the ditch. After being on the lam for a few years, he decides it’s time to go home. Enter, Unsolved Mysteries. Of course, his wife is the one to watch that specific episode. Using the “I don’t know who I am” defense, he hopes it will mitigate punishment. AND IT DOES. Congratulations Karl!

    • @jimsty7550
      @jimsty7550 4 місяці тому +31

      I don't think Carl got entirely away with it. He was put on probation, which I know is a slap on the wrist, but having to pay back all the embezzlement money he took but claimed to have "lost" due to his amnesia doesn't seems a lot more harsh.

      @nsblur 4 місяці тому +21

      Ehh I feel like this just doesn’t add up though. Why come back at all? Why spend so long “pretending” to have amnesia? If he was lying it just seems like too many people involved to keep the secret under police questioning, and way too much effort for such a small crime.
      If he was trying to get away with it it sounds way easier to just disappear and not come back, pin the crime on a fake criminal who “made me do it,” or to sell drugs or get into some other organized crime to cover the debts. The story is just too easily disprovable if untrue.
