The most impressive thing to me about this is the memory it takes to remember this convoluted mess of a song. Even with notes, cues and pointers, I wouldn't want to learn that. It's like being hypnotized and stuck in a limbo.
Kiiiind of at first, but not really. And I'm not saying that to take away from this video, this is fucking amazing. It's just the one and only Meshuggah song I'm able to play, just cause the pattern I find is easier than most 'Shuggah songs
Not really. At the beginning these patterns might seem confusing but once you cover a few polyrythmic songs you will find it is easier than you thought ;)
This video is obviously fake. Everyone knows playing Meshuggah songs this well results in spontaneous beard growth due to sheer heaviness!! But seriously amazing job. Keep up the good work! :) \m/
repetitive yet the whole song structure is very complicated, imagine that you have a drum kit and you want to play this song, now listen the whole song again paying attention to the drums and you'll see how actually complicated this song is. you need to count, and this is what Meshuggah is.
yeah yeah, i know, 80% of Meshuggah fun is counting. Well, it wasn't the case before 1998, when it was also fun listening to their songs. They actually wrote music, not only polyrhythms. Alas, not anymore. Counting is cheaper to produce.
Meshuggah is about two things, as far as I'm concerned: Atmosphere and.. Impact? Punch? No idea how to call it. They may be repetitive (they are :P) but their use of repetitive, ridiculously syncopated/rhythmically complicated riffs makes their sound incredibly heavy. Everybody seems to think "they're good because they're complicated", but that's not entirely true: as I said, the complicated riffs are there because all that syncopation/polyrhythms make their musc heavy (IMO) You also need to consider that Meshuggah's music is to be considered -to an extent- experimental (well, they were, now Djent is a thing), so it is quite normal that their songs are more like "hey, look how difficult is to count this!" than actual compositions.
it should be repetetive because tell me you figured out the rythm structure after hearing it 20 times only, and i mean not being able to reproduce it but knowing the actual time cicle
Wow! You make it see really easy! I'm studying Meshugga's music for a music analysis lesson at my university, and a must say to keep rythm and meters just as you did is really hard! Great cover!
What I've noticed when learning Meshuggah songs is that more often than not, I miss a beat here and there when I'm thinking about what comes next, and then sometimes when I just play along for fun and don't really think about it, and really get into the groove, it just comes naturally. And that's what Meshuggah is all about really, not meters and math, but groove :)
Uber respect for showin us blokes that a woman can play 8 string and kick our arses into gear. loved how you switched between clean and dirt whilst keepin the riff going. Dan
No doubt... loved them back in the day before they made the Djent switch... but now, the look on her face is exactly how I feel while listening to their new music, lol.
The calm is so scary. I just noticed after watching this a second time that you switched fingers for the intro riff efter a short while. Did that happen naturally?
Dude I did not write this music, this is a COVER but i'm still going to defend Meshuggah because they're fucking awesome! if you want to check out some of my original music (in which I do sustain notes for a few seconds) go to Sarahshreds.bandcamp.com
***** Hardly efficiency.. Why 4 instead of 3 ? Thats called variety/flexibility. When you are pushing your limits as a guitarist, 3 fingers get you only so far.
***** Now you just missed my point. Ofc not all songs require the use of 4 fingers.,.,.,.,.,. Its just better to use 4 from the get go when you want to play something advanced. That is my advice, but I dont mind if some1 still wants to play their own way. Playing is self expression. There is not right answers to it.
***** Explain how reaching a fret out of position with the third finger (or moving the entire current position 1+) is more efficient than just playing the fourth finger where it currently is?
+Sarah H (sarahal3xis) yes she is but she is funny , i value that more than her face.. she is the Godess of guitars... she inspires me. i bought my first drum kit a week ago.. im 30 years old loool #never2L8 hahaha
"This video is a threat to my manhood". I see a woman play very well and this is a thereat to our Manhood? Its hope for all us guys to find a woman that can play and love playing this music. I must say I want in her pants now.
That's what's awesome about them! The monotony gets me in like a trance-like state, not to mention seeing them live. The repetition along with the insane light show just puts me in a headbang psychosis for an hour and half. It's amazing!
Well sure they're awesome high as fuck but I enjoy them more than any other band when I'm sober as well. YOU think the repitition is boring as hell sober, that doesn't mean that everyone else does. I also love minimal techno, shoegaze, drone, post-rock and other types of music that is really repetitive for long periods of time. And with that said, I also love technical death metal, progressive metal, grindcore and other genres where A LOT happens all the time. I guess I love the extremes at both end of the spectrum.
Don't know why you even mentioned being high lol I didn't reference that at all. Like sure, they're amazing high as well but any music that's great will be even greater when high.
Just told my wife i'm leaving her for you.... then she watched the vid a little longer than I'd have liked... she was probably thinking the same thing ;)
The song don't seem that hard... Coruse this is someone that can't play guitar that have a 6 string bass to play with. But really I think the hardiest part is getting it up to tempo.
***** There was another one.... Before my dude... Basic "Go kill my self was the Comment" As a response "Why would I want to do that?" You can learn it slow and then pick up the speed dumbass"
InsaneBassNinja Yes, which is why I'm saying getting it up to tempo is probably not the hardest part. Because of the rhythmic tricks, I genuinely think learning it slow will take more time than getting it up to tempo afterwards. Then again, I haven't tried... and Pravus IS considered to be one of the more "possible to play yourself" Meshuggah songs.
Am really new to guitar so playing shit like this and not knowing there Theory be hide there madness doesn't really help right? Not saying its madness but is mostly there idea behide it all.
Wow! This is really good! I was able to discover this video from Revocation's facebook. There was a link from Guitar World's top 15 Seven and Eight string players. Sarah being one of them. GOOD JOB!
I need extra shuggah in my coffee
Totally. I can't even have coffee without Meshuggah.
Meh, shuggah....
Ha
As Def Leo said it years ago.. pour sum SHUGGAH in ME 😀
Me shuggah You shuggah
The most impressive thing to me about this is the memory it takes to remember this convoluted mess of a song. Even with notes, cues and pointers, I wouldn't want to learn that. It's like being hypnotized and stuck in a limbo.
1 12 1 123 1 12 1 1234 repeat
There is a pattern to it. Just a bit different than 1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2...
Easier said than done, sir.
Kiiiind of at first, but not really. And I'm not saying that to take away from this video, this is fucking amazing. It's just the one and only Meshuggah song I'm able to play, just cause the pattern I find is easier than most 'Shuggah songs

Ap3x 5 I already have a beard. Your argument is invalid. ;-)
You should see her gusset
meshuggah isn’t that heavy lol
She's clearly wearing some other girl's face to hide the growth, you fucking clown.
god, youtube comments are so retarded sometimes, i swear.
21st Gojira too
meshugga is the one band that makes songs out of repetitive hand excercises. heheh.

Can afford a Strandberg. No footswitch.
literally said this out loud when the distortion was killed
still she killed it
Who needs footswitch when you can play with one hand XD
This aged well
Flagged for porn.
*Eargasmic riffs*
Teaching lessons, album sales, and living with your parents so you don't have to pay rent
some serious fucking skills! you're awesome, Sarah!

That Strandberg looks absolutely gorgeous. Great playing btw Sarah, you never cease to disappoint me with your chops!
nice cover !
Uber respect for showin us blokes that a woman can play 8 string and kick our arses into gear. loved how you switched between clean and dirt whilst keepin the riff going. Dan
haha I literally forget mine all the god damn time and it makes things so difficult lol xD
You know, you should do a remake of this with Scallon or Leo. That would be the coolest thing ever. Meshuggah are the Rush of heavy metal.
@@casperchristiansen2458 RIGHT, it’s crazy I remember when this first came out lol I was 12-13😂
The guitar reminds me of a close friend who lost a leg due to diabetes...
anyway thumbs up for the hard work Sarah!
Holy shit that joke is so good LMAO
best sounding guitar I've heard in a meshuggah cover
Blown away! Absolutely brilliant!
I love how it starts with an innocent looking ":D"
And then proceed to nose dive into the pit of hell as the guitar started playing
Brutal.
I'm sure you can play this song wonderfully but I wouldn't know. A whole minute of that riff was enough for me.
I loved it. Thanks so much maestro. You are truly gifted and alive.
My daughter is into K-Pop. I wonder what I did wrong? :D
:o nice guitar!
Can't stop watching and listening this video!!!!
Amazing, simply amazing

She's effortless in her playing, she's a true virtuoso. Very sick, solid playing Sarah!
Brilliant !! and beautiful!!

the payback bit is most awesome thing ive EVER seen
No doubt... loved them back in the day before they made the Djent switch... but now, the look on her face is exactly how I feel while listening to their new music, lol.
Came for the amazing skills, stayed for the Dobsonian
Awesome cover! And gorgeous guitar.
Watching you play with the ease that you do it... You're incredibly inspiring. Thank you for the vids!
The calm is so scary.
I just noticed after watching this a second time that you switched fingers for the intro riff efter a short while. Did that happen naturally?

Amazing work Sarah I love it !!!!!
Dude I did not write this music, this is a COVER but i'm still going to defend Meshuggah because they're fucking awesome! if you want to check out some of my original music (in which I do sustain notes for a few seconds) go to Sarahshreds.bandcamp.com
all of the women guitar players never use the twinkle finger .....
whats wrong ?
for sure ...

Really well played. Thanks for sharing.

Tu es fantastisque! Bravo Miss!
Her pinky scares me for some reason.
This video is a threat to my manlihood. I demand it be taken down this instant!
Great playing by the way.
"This video is a threat to my manhood". I see a woman play very well and this is a thereat to our Manhood? Its hope for all us guys to find a woman that can play and love playing this music. I must say I want in her pants now.
Keep up the awesome job! Phenomenal playing!
Meshuggah!! Awesome cover Sarah.
Long shot but here I go, my one big chance... Will you marry me?
つ ◕_◕ ༽つ giff hand in marriage to all commenters pls
Man, I like some Meshuggah, but they repeat stuff way too much. I mean, the first whole minute and a half was the same riff.
That's what's awesome about them! The monotony gets me in like a trance-like state, not to mention seeing them live. The repetition along with the insane light show just puts me in a headbang psychosis for an hour and half. It's amazing!
Kalle Ojala I guess it's one of those bands that sound better when your high as fuck. because the repetition is boring as hell sober.
