    The most impressive thing to me about this is the memory it takes to remember this convoluted mess of a song. Even with notes, cues and pointers, I wouldn't want to learn that. It's like being hypnotized and stuck in a limbo.

      Kiiiind of at first, but not really. And I'm not saying that to take away from this video, this is fucking amazing. It's just the one and only Meshuggah song I'm able to play, just cause the pattern I find is easier than most 'Shuggah songs

    • @m0skit0
      @m0skit0 7 років тому +2

      Not really. At the beginning these patterns might seem confusing but once you cover a few polyrythmic songs you will find it is easier than you thought ;)

    This video is obviously fake.
    Everyone knows playing Meshuggah songs this well results in spontaneous beard growth due to sheer heaviness!!

    meshugga is the one band that makes songs out of repetitive hand excercises. heheh.

    • @KatyaLishch
      @KatyaLishch 9 років тому +29

      repetitive yet the whole song structure is very complicated,
      imagine that you have a drum kit and you want to play this song, now listen the whole song again paying attention to the drums and you'll see how actually complicated this song is. you need to count, and this is what Meshuggah is.

    • @lunarhaze105

      LOL :)))

    • @alexbobinski1039
      @alexbobinski1039 9 років тому +14

      yeah yeah, i know, 80% of Meshuggah fun is counting. Well, it wasn't the case before 1998, when it was also fun listening to their songs. They actually wrote music, not only polyrhythms. Alas, not anymore. Counting is cheaper to produce.

    • @lorenzopratolli6877
      @lorenzopratolli6877 9 років тому +14

      Meshuggah is about two things, as far as I'm concerned: Atmosphere and.. Impact? Punch? No idea how to call it.
      They may be repetitive (they are :P) but their use of repetitive,ridiculously syncopated/rhythmically complicated riffs makes their sound incredibly heavy. Everybody seems to think "they're good because they're complicated", but that's not entirely true: as I said, the complicated riffs are there because all that syncopation/polyrhythms make their musc heavy (IMO)
      You also need to consider that Meshuggah's music is to be considered -to an extent- experimental (well, they were, now Djent is a thing), so it is quite normal that their songs are more like "hey, look how difficult is to count this!" than actual compositions.

    • @SunShinesBlack
      @SunShinesBlack 9 років тому

      it should be repetetive because tell me you figured out the rythm structure after hearing it 20 times only, and i mean not being able to reproduce it but knowing the actual time cicle

    • @gaunten
      @gaunten 10 років тому +3

      What I've noticed when learning Meshuggah songs is that more often than not, I miss a beat here and there when I'm thinking about what comes next, and then sometimes when I just play along for fun and don't really think about it, and really get into the groove, it just comes naturally. And that's what Meshuggah is all about really, not meters and math, but groove :)

      ***** Hardly efficiency.. Why 4 instead of 3 ? Thats called variety/flexibility. When you are pushing your limits as a guitarist, 3 fingers get you only so far.

    • @rikulievemaa1552
      @rikulievemaa1552 10 років тому

      ***** Now you just missed my point. Ofc not all songs require the use of 4 fingers.,.,.,.,.,. Its just better to use 4 from the get go when you want to play something advanced. That is my advice, but I dont mind if some1 still wants to play their own way. Playing is self expression. There is not right answers to it.

    • @kalle579
      @kalle579 7 років тому +41

      That's what's awesome about them! The monotony gets me in like a trance-like state, not to mention seeing them live. The repetition along with the insane light show just puts me in a headbang psychosis for an hour and half. It's amazing!

    • @silentnoah
      @silentnoah 7 років тому +10

      Kalle Ojala I guess it's one of those bands that sound better when your high as fuck. because the repetition is boring as hell sober.

    • @kalle579
      @kalle579 7 років тому +12

      Well sure they're awesome high as fuck but I enjoy them more than any other band when I'm sober as well. YOU think the repitition is boring as hell sober, that doesn't mean that everyone else does. I also love minimal techno, shoegaze, drone, post-rock and other types of music that is really repetitive for long periods of time.
      And with that said, I also love technical death metal, progressive metal, grindcore and other genres where A LOT happens all the time. I guess I love the extremes at both end of the spectrum.

      InsaneBassNinja Yes, which is why I'm saying getting it up to tempo is probably not the hardest part. Because of the rhythmic tricks, I genuinely think learning it slow will take more time than getting it up to tempo afterwards. Then again, I haven't tried... and Pravus IS considered to be one of the more "possible to play yourself" Meshuggah songs.
