I remember watching the last few minutes of the game in my niece's bedroom because my dad and brother-in-law were watching in the den and were complaining about how badly it was going for Bama. As soon as the pass play went out of bounds to stop the clock, I ran down the hallway yelling, "The Ice Man Cometh!" And he came in and iced it.
I met Van at Bryant Denny Stadium in 1986 during A-Day. He was so nice to me and my brother and autographed our program. We thought we had met an equal of a movie star.
