- The City of Calgary has announced there will be no fireworks display as part of the city’s Canada Day celebrations. With more on the reasons behind the decision, Tate Laycraft has the story.
Give the politicians in Calgary feedback by tossing them out of office in the next local election.
The rationale makes absolutely zero sense for one day of fireworks. What a joke.

@@Anonymous_Whisper Part of it. There is an ongoing campaign in Canada to permanently 'cancel' Canada Day. As well, there is a centennial regarding an old immigration law that kept the Chinese out of the country & complaints from pet owners about the noise. We cannot have nice things.
Using fireworks to celebrate is a compliment to the Chinese inventors of fireworks. If anything, they should've doubled the fireworks to show their 'reconciliation'.

There was a video I saw a couple years ago recording a lady patronizingly lecturing a retail cashier that she shouldn't say "Have a good day" because some people are not having a good day and it would be disrespectful to wish them that because you don't know what the customer could be going through. For the soldiers and police with job related PTSD would have been a legitimate argument and was my assumption, not what I expected after watching this. The "cultural" aspect that cancelled the fireworks was the last thing I would have guessed the reasons.

If you're on the left politically, I'll bet this is another issue you had no idea you support. But it does fall into the "everything is racist" category, so maybe not.
Is environmental concern code for worried about starting a fire or for the possibility of their fire departments being depleted by fires in other areas? I wouldn't put it past them to try and avoid attaching the reason to the weather, wildfires, and the likelihood of both being very obvious symptoms of climate change. The oil and gas industry works hard and pumps lots of money into climate change disinformation. Don't want to spoil that by making links in the media.
Also, it's interesting that everyone in the report was on one side of the discussion and were mainly made up of young guys would would likely vote the fire works continue even if they were standing directly under them covered in gas. Really gives the impression that everyone in the city agrees with the position that cancelling the fireworks was a bad thing which appears to be the message being presented. Not slanted at all.

They should have one of those drone shows instead. They're much more interesting to watch, make a lot less noise, don't run the risk of sparking fires, and if desired, an Indigenous component can be included in consultation with local knowledge keepers.
