You said the traction motors have been changed, in fact, the inverters have been changed to allow a faster power output. The inverters are the devices that make the 4 step sound change which is just a step down in power until coming to a halt and vice versa for acceleration.
I remember when I was little my dad told me that when these trains were entered into service, when the trains got really busy the 2 seats and extra space next to the cab at the front and rear of the train were opened up to passengers to allow more people on.
Awesome video, thank you!!! Would anyone happen to know why you can’t hear the air brake release on the 3000 class railcars when it is about to depart a station?? Other railcars (particularly ones from UK) have rather loud air brake releases just before departing a station. All answers would be much appreciated, thanks.
yep i remember these railcars before doors was manual to slide open when you get on and off the train now you can push the button to open and doors to get on and off the train when these railcars got upgraded
These trains will never be gone, they need some on the belair line and they will probably keep these or retire them for new trains. Well it will be good to see them in the national railway musuem and steamranger.
It may be just me but I don't think the railfan windows are actually viewable anymore, all the modern ones I've ridden on seem to have it covered over so you can't see out, which is a shame.
Weren't they called the Jumbos? I first rode on a Jumbo in 1986, a big improvement from the Redhens, and at the time you were lucky to ride on one given there wasn't many around back then.
Jumbos were similar but not quite the same! Jumbos featured an upwards hump, sorta like on a jumbo jet, as the cab was actually raised up above the regular seating and protruded from the top. They were taken out of service as soon as the first electric lines came in because once the wires were installed at Adelaide station they couldn't meet clearance requirements.
He cannot do the XPT because he is not in Sydney where the XPT operates. These are Adelaide Railcars that run on 5ft 3in Broad Gauge instead of 4ft 8.5in Standard Gauge.
These railcars have so much potential to travel far out of Adelaide but instead they are being used for 20 kilometre long suburban lines. Real waste of potential when they could go to Mount Barker or even Murray Bridge.
They are the same essentially just a diesel powered comeng They were built by the same workshop In Dandenong at the same time as the Melbourne comengs . I like how they aren't restricted to where they can run, it would be like catching a comeng to Bairnsdale or Mildura 👌

Adelaide Trains and Trams traction motors are the same. The inverters have been changed. So you’re saying they’re not changing all the inverters? Why?
Adelaide Trains and Trams do you know which railcars have the old inverters that won’t be changed?
+DanTheFryingPan
I’ve heard that the Clyde built railcars will keep their current inverters with a few exceptions. But I don’t know all the details.
I find a lot of nostalgia in these trains, i use to travel in them quite a lot when i was little.
Gawler line is now electric
@@mr.engineear0987 Yeah, and it took them long enough.
@josephmcsticc164 because of the Liberal Government.
Only reason the electrification was completed was because Labor returned
Who would ever forget the sound of the original engines at a constant RPM.
yeah they were also loud as heck!!!

3000s are the unsung heroes of the Adelaide Metro train network

The hum of these railcars is literally engrained into my brain. 💀🤣
Bad news everyone! As confirmed by 'adelaideonthego' and myself, they've frosted up the railfan window so you can't see out of it anymore :'(
Why did they do that? I was looking forward to seeing something but it was tinted
I think it was a restricted area.
@@mr.engineear0987it's the new tyrannical Adelaide.
Cops dressed as Gestapo.
Tram Driver's trying to stop you filming.
The electric trains on the Gawler line don’t have a rail fan window. The front part of the train is blocked off so you can’t see through the front

nice video bro

ABB is refitting them to Hybrid but not the ones Clyde built.
Pettiness is also a Corporate thing
Sounds like a diesel equivalent of the Queensland Rail EMU. Were these made in Queensland?
No, 3000s and 3100s class was manufactured by Clyde Engineer which is they built in New South Wales Australia.
Did you moo at the horses? lol
Oink
I've taken a ride on one to Belair and I haven't bothered to upload it last year.
Nice video!

They're 2000's
do they still use whistle codes at the level crossings?
Which months did you recorded in 2018?
I was in Adelaide for one week in January.
Are yu going to do one on the XPT at all? :D

Comengs brother
3000's aren't DMU's because they have a Driver's Cab at each end.
3100's have only one Driver's Cab so they are
Playing around with the train
Do the 3100 class have a railfan window?
NSWTrains Vlogs Yes
+NSWTrains Vlogs
Yeah, they look pretty much the same except no cab at the A end.
Looks like a narrow gauge line
+QuarioQuario54321
It’s quite the opposite: broad gauge.
👍👍👍👍👍
Tbh I don't miss the sounds of those old engines, especially at a stop the sound was quite annoying. I think the new v8s sound way nicer
Did you go in with the driver?
PatMac No it was recorded from the railfan seat in the passenger compartment.
@@ThebusofdoomFSX what’s their reason for frosting it?
