Abbottabad serves as an important educational and military center, with numerous schools, colleges, and the Pakistan Military Academy located in nearby Kakul.The city gained international attention in May 2011 when it was revealed that Osama bin Laden had been hiding in a compound in Abbottabad, where he was killed by U.S. Navy SEALs. Despite this, the city remains a popular destination for tourists and serves as a gateway to the northern areas of Pakistan, including popular destinations like Naran, Kaghan, and the Karakoram Highway.
