We all wanted to like her . I’m in America and I never heard of her until she met Harry. She played the race card and that was the wrong card. She had the red carpet put out for her. She isn’t a kind person and she failed the world. She’ll never be popular except negative press.

Absolutely agree! The whole country wanted to like the woman who had won Harry’s heart! However just before the wedding her behaviour started to concern the people. All of which we forgave when their wedding took place. Then her real behaviour shocked the nation, then out of nowhere she played the race card, well that was a wrong and ill fated card to play. Then there was the elbowing people out the way, The constant hand holding, pushing in front of Harry, going against Royal Protcols . Not curtsying to the Queen on her wedding day. The awful and messy wigs she started wearing and the sub par outfit she wore that were ill fitting. She just didn’t care about anything but the money and boy did she blow through it a million pound on pregnancy clothes then another million on non pregnancy clothes. Yet despite the money she still looked like she had been dragged through a hedge backwards. The truth is she didn’t care about anything but herself. And let’s not get started on the pregnancy debacle . Smh
We really did want to like her! What's even more aggravating is now they think all American duchesses act like hoity toity asshats

I'm an American and from the beginning something about Meghan just didn't ring true. Then she played the race card and that was the end. I have traveled extensively throughout the U.K. and was struck by the ease with which the different races coexist. I hope that the Brits dont judge us by her actions. She is a very, very poor example of the American woman!!!!!!
Markle is a hater. She hates the US as a country as much as she hates the UK. Markle wants her own world and to control everything and everybody in it. She certainly doesn't belong in yours or mine. Meg is trying to be strategic but her intellectual limitations turn her strategies into one disaster after another disaster. She and her husband have become known as two hypocritical, heartless, and opportunistic individuals. Not very smart
I feel tremendous empathy for Thomas Markle. He never quite the big shooter in his career. Sure, he achieved success in his field, but never made it into the big leagues. He married a black woman who treated him quite badly. He fell in love with his child who absorbed all his love and money and then when she made the big time-the really BIG time, she turns her back to him. Now, he gets to observe the whole planet hating on HIS baby girl. God bless him.
True, it has to be a heartache for him not to have his relationship with his daughter and grandson. I do believe that Megan has her own reasons for keeping her father from Harry. She may not have told Harry some truths, if she introduces them it will change their relationship for H & M. Maybe some healing will come for them all later. But, it is a very sad story. Except I just do not Trust Megan's Motives. It could be Fame related or ambition. But, something is really "OFF" about how things are transpiring between them. It is not HEALTHY for the RF or the MARKLE Family (setting aside the issues related to the Monarchy and just viewing them all as regular families). It is just not healthy and mostly not HEALTHY for Baby Archie.
You have to have friends and allies as well as colleagues who respect you, to succeed in Hollywood. Popularity stands for a lot in terms of where you go and how far you progress and if you've ever seen a film set there are a huge number of people employed. For Tom to have the success he did we can assume he was a popular and known name. Thats why i think it is entirely possible that many of those people saw meghan for who she was and impeded or obstructed her. If you look at her earlier videos she came across as pretty revolting. If she had been a different personality and actually studied acting, she probably could have been a success.

You can tell he is a kind man who (now I have learned very talented)...and to be thrown under a bus by his daughter like this must be heart breaking for him. And to think that in the beginning the world thought that the real damaging, dangerous, mixed up weird daughter was Samantha...little did we know! I hope someone somewhere is being kind to him, being a friend. And once the court case is over, when I imagine he will be shown to be vindicated..I hope then he decides to come back out into the world and speak again

But the Monarch gathers a life time of diplomatic knowledge from leaders around the world; the Queen particularly has unique insight, and has a weekly meeting with the Prime Minister of the day; she is a steadying influence.

I watched a documentary with Thomas Markle, he was in his house in Mexico. He spoke as if Meghan was the centre of his world, he treated her as a princess, everything she wanted he gave her. I think he caused her narcissism, to an large extent.

Perhaps, but he raised other children who didn’t turn out like her. He enabled her, certainly, but the narcissistic traits had to be present within her already in order to be nurtured. I would think her mother showed similar narcissistic and overly ambitious tendencies.

I have ordered your Diana biography and the narcissistic book. I am a librarian and I will say I have never enjoyed the style of a nonfiction book as I did your book Lady C. So now I want to read every thing you've written. Someone made a comment today that you should write a book on modern day/ or just good Miss Manner's/etiquette book -- I think it is a brilliant idea Lady C I will be looking forward to it. Frannie, I just reread the Diana biography. It is an accurate analysis especially when examined twenty years after her death. Lady C. is a master of the English language. You'll love reading between the line. Enjoy!
I remember reading the Diana book when it first came out. It was great and Lady C was absolutely the first to report on what a mess the marriage was. It was fair too and most of the reporting at the time was not.

What a wonderful idea to have Lady C write a modern etiquette book. I remember being taught simple basic manners at Primary School (we even had fun 'table manners' lessons). It's not rocket science - most of it is just about being thoughtful, kind and considerate towards others. The woke 'ME' generation could use being reminded they are not the only ones that inhabit this planet.

An American Thought About the Monarchy: I am an American from Washington DC and have great admiration for the Queen. I know one thing people say about the Monarchy (British) is that they have no power. I have always disagreed with this. Of course, the Queen can't go about setting policy or over-riding the Prime Minister. But I have long believed that the Queen and government are engaged in a sort of dance where she does have influence. Aside from the Queen: I remember when Prince William came to DC and gave a speech at the World Bank about the wildlife trade. Listening to that talk it occurred to me that because of his position, he has a platform from which he can do real good in the world and he can talk about things that perhaps would be too impolitic for the Prime Minister to say.
Harry has quite undone himself marrying Megan and turning his back on the Queen. He too had a lot of credibility at one time and I think people really had a soft spot for him. Now, every time I hear something about them like Megan reading to Archie I think, "how much are they charging for that"? Harry is a lost soul.
Harper, you're a very astute American! You put it very succinctly: HMTQ and her government are continuously engaged in a delicate minuet of well-mannered power-sharing, which would be well-nigh impossible to catalogue in a written constitution but which works very well. HMTQ does have powers, amongst which are to be consulted by her government, to encourage her government and to warn her government. She also has the power, in times of grave crisis to veto/override her government. She is enormously respected for her vast knowledge of governance and the world and its leaders, as well as her quiet wisdom which flows from this knowledge and her kind, broad-minded Christian faith. If, as Prime Minster, HMTQ gently encourages you not to go ahead with a particular plan, then you probably won't! What many people like MM tragically fail to grasp is that, in the long run, influence is far stronger and far more effective than power. Far better and more constructive to have people do things for you because they respect you than because they're frightened of you. MM and her ilk can only understand blatant, brash trappings of power - commanding people with shouting, threats of violence and actual violence, money to buy off people whom you've injured and those whom you need to cover up your faux pas and excessses etc. ; and taxing people for your presence/participation/endorsement (nowadays known as monetising yourself). The difference between power and influence is that power always has the option to bully, influence is much smarter and never does. But I'm sure you know all this! Harry is very lost in the quagmire of his mental illness to which M has purposely added increasing acres of chaotic shifting sands and leased out the 'H' territory to those wanting to dump yet more trash on him.

And thank you for the wonderful explanation and insight into how your government works and power vs. influence. I don't see Harry as 'mentally ill' as much as sitting with the longterm effects of childhood trauma. I think in many ways he is still that 13 y/o boy at school without his brother around. I imagine growing up in the public eye is hard but throw on top your parents marriage troubles and then the tragic and sudden loss of your mother, it's a lot. I think M exploits him, particularly with the money grabbing. She represents the worst side of Americans.
The Queen is certainly getting old and I know the day will come when she passes. Every time there's a big event like Trooping the Color in June or her Christmas message I wonder if she'll be here next year. Sometimes I can't remember who was PM during a certain period. But the Queen, she has always been there.

Ever since the beginning of all this Harry/Meghan mess, I always thought it reflected badly on Harry that he did not step up to meet his fiances' father. I know my husband would never proceed with a relationship without meeting the father and -- not necessarily asking permission -- but laying the cards on the table. The fact that he didn't do this shows that he is under Meghan's thumb. Sad.
Where I am from, a woman is not given away in marriage without her father meeting the man and receiving her fathers blessings. Also if for whatever reason the father's health is poor and can't attend the wedding, the wedding will be postponed till he's better or a representative of the father like the uncle, brother, or brides mum(an elder or close family member of the bride) will walk her down the aisle. When I saw Prince Charles walk her down and only her mum represented her family at the wedding, I was very suspicious that something was wrong. Like a foul play.

I think the vast majority of people wanted Meghan and Harry to succeed, I know I did. I was enthralled thinking I was witnessing a real-life Cinderella story. Then reality set in, Meghan purposely not following royal protocol, her lack of finesse at handling her own family and the last straw when she and Harry decided to leave Royal service. Meghan had a platform to really do some good in the world but she blew it, she elected to serve herself instead of others.

She didn’t understand royal protocol. You can tell from the way she always barged in front of Harry. She wasn’t allowed to do what she wanted when she wanted so they had a temper tantrum and left.

With regards to Meghan's speech (it was not an interview in my opinion) for the 19th: She made it very clear that she wants to involve herself in politics, which as you know very well is not allowed for the royals. Is that not enough reason for the Queen to take their titles? Is it not enough reason to remove them from their positions in the Commonwealth? I fear for the monarchy should this be allowed to continue. What is your opinion - should the monarchy attempt to hang in there until their review period is over or do you think the damage they are doing is too great?

I think that a lot of people (especially in the USA) think that the staff of the royal family are merely servants, I am glad you addressed the role of Angela kelly as the gatekeeper for the queen. Your viewpoint and explanations give context, hopefully people understand what the role of the BRF is. I would love to hear your take on the current role of the monarchy in the commonwealth and why on earth is Harry and MM still president/VP of the commonwealth trust?

She's a narcissist. I question why. while Megan living in Canada for 7 years, was she not involved with the charity ARTISTS AGAINST RACISM.......obviously she wasn’t interested in racism...no, it was all about promoting herself on the Tig......I agree with you...she looks so ridiculous with that hair, certainly not like the elegant, sophisticated society women who live there. These women actually put on beautiful charity events, not just talk about them. I also read that in the Variety that they have been pitching a project to the studios, she stating she does not want to act but they are to produce. She must be furious she was not invited to speak at the Democratic Convention with her friends Hilary and Michelle.....I must tell you.....she is nothing here...nobody cares about them......I never see them on the news...too much going on...only on youtube.....she will never get into politics,,,,she is no AOC...who is actually elected and is working for her cause and in her twenties...and is the new force for the progressive left...she had a spotlight last night at the Convention....Megan is nothing.....just a spoiled, hateful woman...

Wasn't there a story that Meghan wasn't allowed to go anywhere in the Royal residences unescorted because she'd been caught taking photographs of private rooms/areas? Had Angela Kelly been told to show Meghan only the tiaras picked out by the Queen and never to leave her alone with the tiaras for any reason? There was also a story that Meghan only wore a replica, not the real tiara. Perhaps because she couldn't be trusted with the real one?

We should all take a lesson from Lady C. When asked a question, she pauses a few seconds and collects her thoughts which allows her to determine what tone her reply will take rather than spouting off with the first thought to enter her mind.
I will go on record as saying that MM arranged for the photographers to interview her father. She only backtracked and denied when her future in-laws were upset by Mr. Markle’s attention. This has been my belief since the day it happened.
They dabble in American politics, they LOOSE their titles. Take away the Sussex title!

Yes, please, a video on Narcissism would be educational for us all. I have a malevolent narcissist older sister & my mother was her enabler. My sister loved being an only child & didn’t want a sibling. So she tried to make my life hell. Gaslighting, mind games, physical violence. I was allowed to adopt her in a court I arranged but was not told I’d never get an exit visa out of there for my new daughter.
