Dude Thank you! I have to do the cat on my fiancé’s 2013 terrain and thought I had to pull the transfer case out to do it. You saved me a lot of time and possibly an arson charge for lightning it on fire.
Excellent video! Very helpful! Thank you! Also, for the trouble 15mm cat bracket bolt I was able to get a wrench on it and feed a small chain up behind left wheel and onto the wrench. One good pull from the outside and that thing broke free.
discount auto repair thanks for the video. I have a 2015 equinox with the 2.4l and same transfer case that suddenly blew up, the case cracked from inside out and leaking fluid. Thankfully i used to be a mechanic and have all the tools. unfortunately Im fixing it on the ground jacked up and put on jackstands maybe 16-18 inches . That 1 dam bolt 15mm thats near that mount proved to be a bit difficult for me. Thanks tho for the video, it was super helpful. Now just have to get the reman up in there and put back together. Thanks
Easier way to get the bolt for cat out is from the top side you can reach down from the right side of the exhaust manifold. Makes it much easier. If I find the video that showed me I’ll link it. This was a great video!
Seriously!!! Thank you soooooooo much for doing this video!!! I hope I don’t have to pull mine out all the way. But probably will have too. 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️😭😭🤣 but at least I have this video that will help me a ton!!
How do these work do they have a viscous coupling? How do they acct for diff speeds of the front and rear axles? Looks like inside is just a ring and pinion.
Thanks for the video! I have a 2010 Terrain with this exact issue, same noise and same play in the output shaft. Did the new transfer case fix the problem?
On the gmc terrain it had a roaring noise , No pop noise . I had a gmc equinox that had a pop noise when turning and it would try to lock up the wheels , It ended up being the transfercase .
I have a 2011 GMC Terrain that makes a noise once it’s on Drive & noise continues at a slow speed & goes away at about 40mph & over. Could it be that same thing? The noise comes from under the passengers side.

God bless mechanics. True mechanics like this man simply amaze me. My body aches just watching the disassembly!!! You deserve every dollar you earn!!!
Thank You

Hey thank you very much for the awesome awesome info, hey question did you end up needing to unbolt the exhaust or was that step unnecessary?
