How to Water Plants while on Vacation - Simple Automatic Watering

  • I was about to go on vacation and was in a bind and needed my spring plants watered while away. I was more curious about this technique to see if it really works. I can say, it really does work! It's a simple process of water diffusion along jute or sisal twine ultimately watering the plant's soil. Rope did NOT work for me, but the thinner jute twine did. I would recommend trying it first from a glass of water to a plant to ensure you're using a string or twine that works.

I decided to try this before a 2-week vacation. I just returned and my plants look better than when I left!! I did use a thick all-cotton rope instead of sisal or string, and I pushed the rope about 3-4" into the plant. Thanks for the great video

What do you think of an idea where you can provide plant care services when people go for vacations/hometowns. You pick the plants, take care of them and drop it when they are back

Thanks everyone for watching my video. Just an update: I went away for 2 weeks and this process worked just as good and again it was a success! If you're hesitant, try it over night like I did in the video with a glass filled with water along with one string to the soil. Good luck!

Many thanks for sharing, good sir. We are often left nonplussed on how to grow crops in the dry season. Now we have been relieved by your idea.

Lol i don't know you but i love you... this is literally the difference between me being able to take a few days vacation during garden season or being stuck until November...because i will choose my garden over vacation... this way i can have both. And it's not complicated like other videos

Thanks for the video, this is so promising! Question - Does the water source have to be at a level higher than the plants, or does that not matter? Will the capillary action work even if the bucket is at the same level or lower than the plant pots? Thanks!

I use the biggest pot I could to counter evaporation. Even though, I was surprised it worked.

If you have the correct rope/twine/string... YES! I've done it twice since this video. Use Jute Rope/Twine. Here's what I use: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08KJ766V2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
