@@2probeats Yes , you need a splitter cable from the 3/4 in the front ( for your monitors ) 1/2 out from the back goes in to your hardware chain . Out your chain back in to the adi 2 . I will check in the studio tomorrow the software setting in the remote .
Headphone amps are mainly put at arms length on a desk so the rackmounting is less of an issue for me. RME makes some amazing gear for the money and their driver support is second to none (unlike the clowns at Universal Audio) A new contender to consider is the DAC version of the SPL Phonitor 3. As a headphone amp, it's unrivalled IMO. I'd have loved to have had a conversion built into my device. A little more expensive, but you get what you pay for IMO (and half the cost of the Lynx).
Thanks for doing this review. I have been looking for recent reviews of this particular converter and there are not many;so thanks for speaking about your experience. Did you consider the ADI-2 pro 2/4 at any point? If so what caused you to choose the Black Edition? Hoping to include in my setup as I work a lot in headphones and the Apollo twin mk1 headphone amp that I am currently using is not great.
The 2/4 was not out when I made the purchase. The 2/4 is the perfect device for mastering and monitoring. The original adi-2 pro fs r wasn’t available - just the black version. Cheers
@ thanks for your response. Oh well that makes sense. By the sounds of it you are still very happy with the black edition. I am not sure which to go for. I am seriously considering the 2/4, but wouldn’t rule out the black edition either.
Swear I saw it rack mounted in one of the vids on the RME UA-cam channel where the mastering engineer was shooting it out against other converters. Even had the RME branded mounting ears.
In the price bracket, especially considering the quality, it doesn't have any direct competition. You'd have to go up in budget, to the Prism Lyra 2. But for different features, and maybe different rather than necessarily better sound. Depends on your needs, like if you need it to be portable but one alternative might be the Lynx Aurora(N). A lot more expensive, but for some might be worth it for eight inputs. But yeah, I agree with your review, for what it does the ADI-2 Pro FS is the default choice. There's some 'audiophile' dacs from SMSL, Topping and Gustard that probably equal or maybe even better it, but they are limited on the pro feature side, and I doubt they'd hold up to RME's reputation for reliability/dependability.
I own the ADI-2 DAC fs. It's an early version and I wish it had analog inputs. I use it in an audio system driving a Mytek Brooklyn amp. This version is more audiophile friendly.
do you actually use crossfeed when mixing? Just felt like when normally listening to music and your average consumer won't be using crossfeed I'm just not sure how useful it will be unless I really want an experience like using monitors in a room during final checks.
@@2probeatsi use it as only interface/converter for production, mixing, mastering. It has also preamps for recording vocals much better then my Rme Babyface Pro Fs that I had. First we tested Neumann Mt48 vs Rme Babyface and soundwise Neumann is next gen. Then I testet with the same black Adi that you hage right now. And it was the same. That also speaks for Babyfafe pro Fs it already has great conversion even beside Adi 2. We were 3 guys in studio and all 3 liked Neumann better then Adi easily. So yea try it 🤟🏼🔥
speak this shi up nothing more annoying than desktop version of a pro unit everything is better in a rack and it aint even a preference its fact based saves space more reachable etc im even reracking high end pedals as of now ...
I have the RME ADI-2 Pro FS R for 2 years . I rack mount it . I use the 3/4 front out for monitor loop playback . Works like a charm !
Can you explain to me the setup? How is evrtything connected on the HW side and what settings in the unit? Cheers

Great review… I love mine because it’s a Swiss Army Knife.
True!

Salut! Nu am avut ocazia sa ascult doar DACul dar stiu ca RME sunt foarte atenti cu ce pun in sculele lor.

If I use the digital out for my monitors, then I should still be able to use the ADDA and headphones converters right?
Yes

That was the blue DAC not the black version 🙏🏻 cheers
@ so they took away the ability for it to be rack mounted in the updated version? That’s crazy 😂🤦♂️
Is RME HDSPe AIO Pro the same conversion on PCI format?interesting,is they sound the same.RME says it is.
Hmm that would be strange but it’s posible.
@2probeats there is almost two time price difference

How compare the Headphone amp vs Apollo X gen2? My Apollo X Headphone amp is not enough for my audeze mm 500
I haven’t made that comparison but that’s a good video idea. I’ll keep you updated
@ thanks im between apollo X6 gen2 Vs neumann because Headphone amp..
I have one. Best purchase I've made next to my Audeze MM 500s
It’s amazing for headphones work. Do you use EQ on your MM500?
@2probeats no way!! I do alot of mixing and mastering work so just like great pair of monitors, just learn them.
What about the prism Lyra ?
What about it?

This is perfect for a home studio

I do use crossfeed when mixing and mastering on headphones. It’s about getting a more cohesive soundstage - more like working on speakers. Cheers
Test Neumann MT48 before you stay with Rme Adi 2 - Pro FS R. I tested both no contest. Neumann wins easily!
Noted! I’ll try get one for testing. You are using it just as a mastering converter?
