I hope Pat spends more time on his Critter playthrough so that he and Halsin can bond over being chill naturists together, and maybe have freaky druid sex if they are so inclined lol.
This is one of those things that Baldur's Gate 3 has in common with Disco Elysium -- these subtle changes and niche lines, snippets of dialogue that only a tiny fraction of players will see, but that make you feel like the world is truly *noticing* you and remarking on your actions. It used to be that kind of content was discouraged, in the sense that you're "wasting" limited resources on something that most players won't encounter in their playthrough. But in 2023, when we've all got access to UA-cam and Twitch, it's one of the best ways to make a game feel both alive and loved: that exact feeling Pat described, of knowing that a writer anticipated your choices and made something bespoke just for you.
If you kill the goblin leaders, then go to the tieflings and kill them all, the party will still take place, with almost no one. That's... not very good, but it is a very peculiar situation.
The anticipation I felt on Critter's introduction trying to see if nudity was on or not and very pleasantly surprised by the censor bar and not in-game leaf underwear was fantastic.
in the case of kah'ren, worst case you'd have to play her solo until you can hire party members from withers later in act 1. it'd be hilarious from a roleplaying angle that Kah'ren is so unpersonable and dislikeable that the only way people could stand to be around her is if they were being paid to be there
Outer Wilds is probably the greatest example of the meta-game described at the end of this video. It, quite literally, is designed for you to test boundaries. It is a true exploration game that encourages taking your time and pushing what you think is or isn't possible.
There's that one part where, depending on what you chose before, you really get a chance to take a look at yourself and make some tough choices about what you're going to do next... IYKYK.
I’m not sure I agree here. Outer Wilds is all about exploration, but it’s about exploration so that you can find the single solution to a very large very good puzzle. The paths Pat walked have more of a feel of special secrets that only someone who made the same choices would ever know. It’s about beating the game and then realizing there are so many mutually exclusive choices that you have to dive back in. Outer Wilds is a fantastic game, but it scratches a different itch.
When I hear Pat's voice, I know I am going to finish the video lol. It helps that I'm a longtime awful squad fan and have listened to the Besties for years. BRING JENNA BACK!!!!
Even if the video team had the ability to make unilateral hiring decisions that bypassed both Polygon and Vox's funding, I seriously doubt J would wanna come back after being let go so abruptly! Also, hope you don't mind me checking... you know Pat's not on the Besties, aye?
Turning an amazing exploration of BG3 into an equally excellent summary of the problem with AI-generated entertainment is the Pat-Gill-est thing this video could have done. Excellent work my dude.
first half of the video: "hmm, is Pat being a sellout and doing sponsored content for Larian?" second half: "Scholar Pat has given us a very important framework for understanding why AI generated content is unsatisfying. we as consumers deserve better, and should appreciate human crafted art and its limitations" (also, no shade on doing sponsored content)
this game is so FULL of stuff its insane. I find something new every time i start a new character and its crazy to find how many different ways i can solve problems while still basically playing the same kind of good hearted person which is really nice since i cant bear being mean in these kinds of games. Even with that limitation the came is still fresh and different for every one of my characters. Excellent video pat. If i hadn't been gifted the game already you definitely would have convinced me to play it.
At the end of the Kah'ren segment I finally got the joke and the haircut, rudeness, and everything made sense so I had to stop and rewatch from the beginning lmao
I am pretty sure there was a time Gale commented on my chara just wearing their underwear sometime in act 2, if you wanted to take your research further into the game
Watching this with closed captions I initially thought this was an Xtina video, then maybe a Simone with the technical deep dive, then once the word freaks dropped I was certain it was Pat
i never have the guts to play out evil characters, so thank you for showing what it's like on the dark side, Pat. also excellent Pat wisdom at the end as always.
just made my day ! thank you so much ! 😁(I decided yesterday to play a psycho (dark) ); I will play Karen for fun and will do Saint Monk as well (to the end)
This is so cool. I don't know if this game has a "total dumbass" playthrough like the old Fallout games where your intelligence is so low you can barely even communicate... but animal speak seems like a a similar thing in a different way that is very cool to me. That is very awesome.
Mildly unrelated, but what classical music track is used throughout the video and more specifically 14:30? I have definitely heard it before but I cannot for the life of me remember the name and it's driving me mad. /EDIT: it's dvorak symphony number nine
My biggest disappointment with BG3 so far is the fact that companions and npcs have no reaction to you walking around naked. Even Link gets called out for being in his undies while wandering Hyrule.
This is an amazing video showcasing this RPG's versatile gameplay! If I ever buy the game, know that it'll partly be because of this well-done video. Great job, Pat!
@@grymmoire being rude to people and constantly giving him little treats like he’s your pet kitty cat will also work. But yeah he’s got. A lot going on.
This made me think about how lonely it would feel to have an AI video game. Regardless of all the arguments about whether or not AI art is “real art,” one big reason I play video games (or read books, or watch movies...) is to hear the thoughts and stories of real people. People I know are out there, who WANTED me to hear their voice. AI doesn’t care whether I care about what they have to say. People do. And I want to connect with PEOPLE through art. That all being said, I’m actually not anti-AI. I think AI art can potentially be made with humanity, and I think it can incorporate the thoughts and feelings of real people. But if profit and production are the driving reasons behind the advancement of AI, I want no part of it. Unfortunately, it’s just the hot new investment in the stock market.
"It's not you, it's me, I have standards" is such a brutal line. I love it.
i love that satan murderman's love for astarion is unrequited, feels very fitting
*"I dont remember everyone I have killed but I do remember everyone I killed IN THE LAST 5 MINUTES!"*
best reaction yet
It took me an embarrassingly long time to get the joke with Kah'ren.
Same...
the soccer mom haircut didn't clue you in
It wasn't until he called her "Karen."
I was coming to the comments to say literally the exact same thing almost entirely verbatim
I'm calling the manager on all of you incompetents (as well as myself because I missed it the first time too).
Critter is probably the most wholesome bg3 character I’ve seen in this game for a hot minute, not truly awful! He’s just an innocent naturist.
He smears shit on his face.
True, but the other two who got full beat-by-beat explanations were awful enough to balance him out.
@@blarg2429 You right. Him I’d actually want in my party tho. BG3 or 5e.

Pat finding a way to make a video about romancing Asterian
RIP Kah’ren you would have loved Kagha
I appreciate this, because I would never be able to play an evil/murdery/mean playthrough, so it's fun to see what could happen.

Love Pat's blend of humor/gentle advice so much.
Oh no she's a Kah'ren
Hey... kah'ren wouldn't just fight by herself, she'd just leave with a huff n puff I feel
Nah, she'd go as far as she can until she takes a single point of damage
She would ask every minion to see the dungeon's boss, and not stop until she's had it her way.

The rewritting of lethal weapon was so good xD
Beefy murder dude short on clothes, loves animals, that hair and beard? Pretty sure Critter Doolittle is just Yes-era Daniel Bryan
Need to ask Critter his specific opinion on BEARS!
It took me until the manager line to realize the joke
Satan Murderman x Astarion 5ever.
The mbmbam reference to "a rule that says dogs can't play" is very appreciated.
1000% I will still never forget the double double cross option in kotor for the exact points made in this video
Soon as you said the bread joke
Took me that long to realize the joke of Kah'ren's name XD

knockin it out of the park again Pat. WRITING IS SO GOOD
Adrian (The Monk) got me, was not expecting that reference
Ah, I see why we haven't got much videos this month
So, the takeaway from this is that we all simp for Astarion, right?

ohohoho is it time to be a nasty little guy
I knew it would be Patrick before I consciously registered clicking the button

@6:07 still some pipis there
i think this was only documented after this video went live, but as it turns out, gale DOES respond to a nude player character.
Larian saw the video obviously.

i've been playing as a ranger and talking to every single animal in the game has been one of the big highlights of a game that's mostly highlights
I saw the title, and deep down inside, I knew this would be a Pat video. ❤
9:40 lmfao shout out to the Atomic Flounder sound effect
6:07 your censors missed a spot 😂
Darn I want to get with so many characters! And also be a halfling rogue who steals everyone’s crud, and a Druid who can become a cat.
I saw the thumbnail. I prayed. I heard Pat's voice. I rejoiced!
This was such a great video, I didn't have much interest in bg3 but now I do!! I really enjoyed this narrative format. :)
"familiar death sound. who can say where you know it from"
I'll be honest, Bilbo Shruggins sounds hilarious.
I didn't think it was possible for Astarian not to try to romance you!
It’s actually pretty hard to romance Astarion unless you are playing a somewhat evil character

Wow! the graphics really look amazing when the game is run on a system that isn't being actively murdered by the game!
Good video
I laughed to hard at "I'm an appropriate age for this shit."

why you do New World dirty like that?
Pat you NEED to post your 3 full playthroughs you made for this. Assuming you recorded everything that is.
wait whats that intro? .... caught me off guard but i like it ^^
This video is so good
idk i saw the intro and thought u were gonna try bang a log and then i zoned out and now this ginger guy is naked im confused
What sucks about playing any RPG when you have ADHD is that you'll wanna try every possible playstyle and loadout in your first playthrough.
This makes the game seem very fun actually
hahaaha coming back to this video now 130h into this game over the last month.
