I don't know why it's so obvious that the Mets should overpay Alonso when no other team is willing to overpay him. The Walker signing sets a good baseline for what Pete should get.

The Mets have Kodai Senga (returning from missing a season), David Peterson (who had a great half-season), and Clay Holmes trying to be a starter.
