    I don't know anything about her, and I listened to the pod in the car (didn't watch it). Just came here to say how entertaining this ep was. Attitude and personality-wise, they're very alike. The chemistry between them was incredibly entertaining. The slight bits of friction enhanced the whole episode. I had no expectations going into it, but this was one of the best ones in my opinion.

    She's right, capitalism is a religion. Infinite growth is the thing they put thier faith into. Starting a business takes a lot of faith. Consulting oracles is common - with the oracles well-kept in high towers in centers of worship. There are gurus and heretics and even sins. It's a religion.

    I hated that I debated my CCD teacher in 6th grade. I asked "who will go to hell because they don't think Jesus is God? The people who will never hear the word Jesus in remote areas? All of the Jews?" And this wonderful lady who didn't believe it said "Yes. All of them."

    As an ex Catholic I still have to chime in and say there is no rule that says you have to say a certain amount of prayers for Hail Marys to get something in return. It's done in honor of. The priest advises you to pray a certain amount or certain prayers. It's more of a way to focus your time .

      I think the point they were making was more about the chain of command in Catholicism: Pope, archbishops, and cardinals all the way down to regular priests and the laity. Authorities have their fixed rankings and everyone is expected to respect the hierarchies and follow the appropriate channels when it comes to even minor stuff like confession, etc.

    "Nothing makes sense and everything makes sense" is a real-time demonstration of being intellectually bankrupt...when people have these saying it's simply an effort not to have to actively think and make choice-based decisions. I get that this is an act but then sometimes it's very defensively indignant without many receipts. @ 41:35 she did the exact same thing on "Being Ian..." @@Treeboar8 she’s def in the top 3 of folks who participated in this particular podcast. Other than that, I really have a hard time seeing her wit/charm/humor. I know not every comedian is for everyone. But I love David and his guests. Especially since so many have crossover with Heidecker’s podcast. Robby, though, is a bit too off putting without any great jokes for my taste.
      I’ve asked this many times: What is her hook to grab you in? Normally, Heidecker’s and Cross’s guests are some of my favorite people/celebs/comedians on the planet. 180° turn for this one, imho.

    • @Treeboar8
      @Treeboar8 2 місяці тому +3

      @uncletom356 this episode did not showcase David at his best, and I would reserve the other 2 spots in the top 3 for episodes with the best improv in them.
      Her comedy was very much just attitude to me in this, but i liked it, and she made Emma laugh.
      I think the amount of time they spent on the religion stuff didn't help them get a good back and forth, but that's David's fault, he's the host, and Robby did well, giving as good as she got, which most people don't manage with/against Cross.

    • @uncletom356

      @@Treeboar8 Top 3 worst pod guests for my two favorite ones (this and OHL). But I won’t continually argue. God bless if you like her. For me, she’s just too off putting without the comedic chops to overcome. Again, fans of Tim and David are used to dry, wry, sarcastic humor. Hers doesn’t resonate whatsoever for me. And her myopic views on politics is pathetic. Ok. I’ll stop commenting, as I hate coming off as “creepy uncle vibe.” (Even if Robby and I were born merely weeks apart lol)
      But if you’d be so kind - despite me ragging on your “top 3” - what would you recommend as her best bit/show?

    • @Treeboar8
      @Treeboar8 2 місяці тому +3

      @uncletom356 that's a good question and I'd have to rewatch to answer, so forgive me, but in general I liked her keeping david down, by talking to Emma, but also at other times. It probably helps that I share some of her feelings, but it's in my top 3 because of how she didn't take any shit from Cross, that's rare, and I think she did it with dignity.

And again, OHL/5S’s audiences are “alt” (or sarcastic) comedy fans. I had to stop writing so many comments because it was taking up too much of my day. But it really blows me away she’s the first guest David didn’t know personally. I.e., one would think he’d platform an up-and-coming hilarious comic. Think he knew he made a mistake fairly early on. Not blaming David. On the contrary. For the life of me, though, how she attracts any fans is beyond me.

    Hamarabi's code is the basis of the law.........not the ten commandments....it predates.....this is beyond dumb and I'm starting to not buy it....."where there are many words...folly is not far off...Proverbs 10:19". When people aren't intelligent enough to figure things out to a certain point - they become arguementative and vague...when he got to the intelligent level with receipts on the Spanish Inquisition...she just changed the subject and started a different rant that's not factual...

    I like Robby's stand-up, but between this and other appearances she doesn't seem all that well suited to be a podcast guest. I think she's better as a host. I agree with people who found this and the Office Hours appearance to be off-putting, but I think at least some of the rudeness is part of her act. I still say the Pod Jon was still the worst guest and the most cringe. David almost always makes the appearances funny to me no matter how I feel about the guest

    Robby was spitting absolute heat this entire pod and David had a lot of balls to sit there for the full thing. She really put into words the absolute hopelessness a lot of young millennials and gen z have towards the world they're inheriting from David's generation. He really came off as an out of touch rich old man at times and it's really obvious David needed to hear what she had to say.
    I found Robby absolutely fascinating. Her past has allowed her to peer into The Matrix in a way a lot of people who leave heavy religion can only do. It must be a big shock for David, who probably hasn't experienced the real world like a normal person in decades, to hear what the people who grew up in the trash heap the boomers and gen x left us have to say. Fucking brilliant work here by Robby. LISTEN TO WHAT SHE'S SAYING DAVID!

      She's saying don't vote or have kids? She was definitely daying there are no ego checks in the secular world, which is nonsense. And said a lot more nonsensical things.

      @@dr.cornwater2886 I’m exactly the same age as her. The (overly) pro-Robby comments border on cultish. Very bizarre. I’ve written way too many comments on this video. And I don’t wanna hate on her. Just hard to see why anyone would want to go see her to stand-up. Maybe she’s a great writer. Her overall vibe is just off. Shame, too, as she seems quite intelligent. But in practice acts like a tepid foolish unfunny edgelord

      @@colmmadden8526 No sarcasm here. I thought she saw the world in a very interesting way that isn't blocked by growing up in it like most people do. I agree with her, for the most part, politically and I think her pushback on the congestion pricing was a great point. There's a lot of young people who think like she does, and I've said exactly what she said about voting for years. I really felt it when she said she was done caring bc her trust was taken advantage of by a system who only wants more money over meaningful policy. We lost Roe v Wade under a Democrat and now we're paying for a genocide to boot. How the hell does my vote matter in this system when this always happens? And there really is a complete lack of ego checks in the secular world. It is so pointed towards the individual and creating our own bubbles to bask in the narcissistic light of attention. Your selfishness is validated every moment of your life and a lot of people don't even recognize it.
      That said, I think she needs to go the next step and realize there's something that can actually be done. Ironically, it involves getting involved locally and doing action in your area. Her antinatalist views are repugnant and she uses it as some edgy thing to push people's buttons. Her comedy set ups involve being mean and cruel to people at their own expense. I do not find that funny at all and it's representative of an incredibly insecure person. Her Office Hours Live episode is insufferable and she insults two people to set up a mid joke about lesbian hairstyles being appropriated by straight women.
