Their punk style is what it make looks quite modern. I would say the beginning of punk is also the beginning of modern times (the first computer games came up in that time, too). You can still wear that punk fashion today without looking old-fashioned. You can't say that about the mainstream fashion of that time (e.g. flared trousers).
