You know what's so funny? I've been watching dozens and dozens of Can you tell the difference and Which one sounds better vids, but I rarely ever hear a difference at all. Not with this video ;) I totally prefer Dave's jazz sound over Jay's sound. But both are awesome players of course. Looking forward to this month!
Nice arrangement! I particularly like the sax choir intro; quite juicy. I'm wondering, what order did you record the parts in? I can't really tell, but if I were to guess, probably saxes playing over a backing track, then those two files sent to each member of the rhythm section?
You got it! I always make a scratch track of midi bass and keys with a click, then have the saxes record first (for this one, Jay recorded first then I recorded my part). Then I send to bass, add that part to the overall mix, send to keys, add that part, then finally drums. This way everyone in the rhythm section can react organically to what they're hearing.
