Can Primož Roglič Contain Pull Back Ben O'Connor? | Vuelta A España 2024 Week 1 Recap | THEMOVE
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- Lance, George, and Johan break down the first nine stages of the Vuelta a España, discussing why we've seen such chaotic GC racing, and debate whether Primož Roglič and his Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe team can overcome their current deficit to race leader Ben O'Connor, all while controlling the ultra-aggressive racing and holding off the surge of contenders coming from further down in the field.

Johan makes this analysis. Happy Birthday, Johan--I truly enjoy your point of view.
Without Los Três Amigos (POGY, VING and RENCO), La Vuelta it's been more fun than others Grand Tours this year.
dos amigos.
Johann!!! So happy to see you here - without you here... nothing to listen to!🎉
Thanks for this show guys! You guys are my 3 favorite cyclists from our generation. Happy 60th Birthday Johan! I turn 50 in 10 days!
Riccitello is still in the Vuelta. O'Connor seems like a good guy, never heard anything bad about him before the Netflix series. I don't think it's cool that they try to make villains out of some folks because they had a bad day. I'm hoping we get a surprise winner for the Vuelta.
Not making a villain out of anyone but that Netflix doc was not a good moment for him. He was literally crying like a child and wanting to quit because it was tough and he couldn’t do it. I’m happy for him now and glad he’s having unexpected success, but I have never seen a cyclist do that before and definitely left a bad taste in the mouth of many.
@@msstate5 You clearly haven't seen a Mark Cavendish meltdown then
@@TempoKempya know what, that’s a very fair point. But I will say what Cav has on O’Connor is he’s beloved by just about everyone in the cycling world and has a lot more respect than Ben. But you’re definitely right - Cav has had some epic meltdowns.
O'Connor must have been stupid to let that netflix air.
@@msstate5 It may happen more often than we know but there aren't cameras around to capture it. The amount of physical and mental stress these guys are under is huge, especially in the tour. It's probably easy to crack.
Roglic is half the rider he was and still a top 5 cyclist in the world right now. What a talent, even with all the wins he has (3 Vueltas, Giro, Olympic gold, all 1 week tours except for Swiss), it feels his previous team didn't utilise him properly...
He was on great form last year and in the end was told not to race for the win, what would have been his fourth Vuelta win. Both he and his former team miss each other a LOT. Its like taking a truly perfect fitting piece out of a puzzle and trying to jam it somewhere it obviously does not fit yet. If he was still on visma he would be less then a minute behind BoC.
You forgot to mention the great save by Mas on the downhill.
I’ve watched that a dozen times and still don’t understand how he stayed upright, let alone not shooting off the mountain.
@@msstate5 Thank you for really looking. However Mas is doing this I've been waiting, based on his promise. Nutrition is the new doping.
@@msstate5 I broke away from the bunch in a 35+ race in Dallas on a downhill and banked off the curb miraculously to stay upright and ride away.
All you do is try.
If you race and want to go faster, do one leg training. On a stationary trainer or gradual hills, unclip one leg and peddle all the way over. then the other. I think it's a secret top pro trainers are reluctant to share.
@osbogosley oof. Brutal!
Happy Birthday,JB1!
Perth got a mention - no hills here but produces some good climbers. About time WEDU visited.
Love George getting grumpy about the poor tactics of the road captains and teams. You can see what made him great - he’d never let that happen to his team leader!
7x never forget! Love the show. You boys crush it every time.
7x EPO. Fraud.
Pavel Padrnos. I’m riding his bike from 2002. Trek US Postal. His name is on the frame. I Ride in the Netherlands in the Amstel Gold area.
Happy Birthday Johan!! 🎈🇧🇪🎈
Hi from Perth, last summer we had almost 2 weeks over 40 degrees Celsius
Happy Birthday Johan... may you always be surrounded by harmony, serenity and beauty of life... I'm from Italy... The Move has become the most watched cycling podcast in the last two years... Even Radiocorsa (most important cycling weekly program), always skeptical about doing it, recently mentioned Lance and his podcast a couple of times... I'd like to see Johan interview the glories of the 90s... Greg Lemond, Laurent Jalabert, Richard Virenque, Bobby Julich, Bettini, Bugno etc. etc. ... in addition to being champions of this sport, they are all very lucid and brilliant people... I remember one episode during Tour de France reached 100.000 views... it shouldn't be a problem to convince sponsors...
We gotta know the name of that dog who makes a cameo at the end of the episode! Great analysis and coverage as always
🐶🐶🐶
That was one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. Huge fan of that one
The most difficult stages of this Vuelta are at the end of the second week ,(12th ,13th ,14th ,15th ), in the first stage of the 3rd week, 16th stage will be the climb of Lagos de Covadonga to finish the day ,then at least the 19th and 20th stages could decide a lot of the top ten before the ITT in Madrid (flat) 24,6 km puts a end to the race !
Great work by Marc Soler and jay vine to set up that great finish
So suddenly no one talks about Sepp Kuss? Anyone remembers The Move hysteria last year when Jumbo visma tried to make their best guys win? Well, they lost Roglic due to US media lobby. Kuss was gifted last year’s Vuelta, but it screwed the team in the long run.
That’s because everyone knows the only reason he won last year was because Jonas and Primoz let him win.
There´s alot of Vuelta still to go with monster stages but watching Roglic not responding during Stage9 was odd. Ben even had time to sprint for 3rd... suprising to say the least!
Hurting back AND had an epic, hard win the day before.
[ I haven't watched the video yet - so don't flame me if someone else already said this ]
The mistake that team Bora Hansgrohe/Redbull made was knowing that Ben O'Connor is a break away specialist and letting him go up the road with someone knowing that despite being top ten at the time, he'd got so much of an advantage and not pulling himback [ with limited resources on a mountain stage ] Im also surprised that Primo's DS didnt catch this on the day. ..it was still a great stage to watch.
I would have a fair level of confidence to say that I think O'Connor has a strong chance of winning.
35:24 We need full details on the floor hoover. Very talented with the cuteness factor.
Lance, who was the Simon (Simone) fellow who are part of a break that gained a huge time-gap and took over the yellow?
Johann you were talking about earlier in the day? Maybe have the southern stages nearer the end of the Vuelta?
This GT is the Exhibit A of why team matters, nobody seems to be able to control anything.. how did they manage to let 3 THREE UAE riders into break and Adam Yates.. you know they guy who came 3rd in the TdF? Not to to mention Lipowic managing to drop Roglic and Vlasos being all over the place, just a disaster.
Just adding to the rest saying Riccitello is in the race, currently 41:59 down after stage 9
Gotta go with the guy with the 🇮🇪 last name!! Wout thanked Sepptastic for the drag race to Victory!👍🏼🚵🏼♂️💯🇪🇦
Wonder how Grigory Rodchenkov is doing these days. Did he ever get reunited with his family?
Riccitello is still in the race.
Heat Stroke will kill you..and getting even close to that will cause a danger riding in peloton at speed..Riccitello did not drop out
What series are they referring to about O’Connor?
maybe the TDF netflix series, i remember he was featured in that.
Netflix series Unchained, season 2
Who is Pavel???
Sivakov???
Pavel Padrnos used to ride for us postal/discovery.
@@GonzoJohnny Thanks, I slightly remember him. 🤔
Pavel Tonkov?
Riccitello is still in the Vuelta 36 minutes down. Johan was right!
Yup, 24th today and 40th overall so not too shabby after crashing.
In my view, the O'Conner lead is due to pathetic DS capacity in Red-Bull. They didn't spot the danger or couldn't create alliances.
There's still a ton of climbing yet to come in Vuelta, O'Connor has not won this yet. I think Roglic reels him in for overall GC win.
O'Connor was down 52 seconds on a 12 k TT!!!!
Bora with their idotic tactic using Lipovich as an excuse. He isn't even on par with O'Connor. Bora made it too difficult for Roglic to win. They knew that Roglic wasn't completely free from pain of his back injury, now he has to exert himself unnecessarily to try to chip in 5 minutes time every single stage. That's a lot. Stage 9, where's Martinez? So far I only saw him pulling for 50 meter and dropped. Meh.
Now Yates, Carapaz, Landa are back in the picture. On hindsight, it brings UAE, EF back in the frame to control. Because of the gap to O'Connor, Decathlon can play .. you chase the break away. And Bora has been exposed that they aren't that strong.
And Mas, look super good. I think he has a huge chance to win it this time. This is the first long climb, and Roglic got dropped by Mas, hmmm.. the third week is even brutal. I don't want to be in his shoe, riding along climb with back pain.
Mas looking good, most consistent, aside from the fact he never seems to win or take charge and a bad descender. I feel he can chip away , though I’m hoping O’Connor can hold on. Both real diesel’s , good on the long climbs but lack the real punch.

Perth in on the south tip of Oz...not that hot
I’m here in Perth, on the Southwest coast , Mediterranean climate very similar weather to the South of Spain or southern California for American viewers.

Your recap of stage 19 of tour is dead wrong! F the political component of cycling. The Political aspect of cycling is what helped you, and your team including George and other teams DOPE!
Tadej P won because he was the strongest rider.
No apologizes. If the American rider was stronger, he would have won! He wasn't , go train harder try again next year!
Race to win and no more politics in cycling!
