- In this video, I catch up on all the small projects that I've been falling behind on over the past few months. Before moving onto some bigger projects, I wanted to catch up on cleaning my roof, fridge, gutters, splitting and stacking last weeks roadside firewood haul, and more!
Thanks for watching!

One more thing, Take it from a Firefighter (44 yrs), extend you ladder 3 rungs over the gutter line so you have the ladder to hang onto getting on and off the ladder onto the roof. Safety first!!
Good info, thx
A time saver when you defrost your freezer is to boil some water and then put the pot right into the closed freezer sitting on a thick towel. The hot water will defrost the freezer faster and the towel will soak up all the melting water. Just a thought!! Looks good sir!!!
I’ll have to try that hack!
I accidentally came across your videos and I quite like them. I listen to you and it appears you have a good head on your shoulders. You seem intelligent and have good values. Even when you are venting you appear calm and your voice stays gentle. I also really enjoy watching you cut and chop the wood. The sound of the "axe" hitting the wood is so soothing. I am almost 70 years old and remember cutting and chopping wood with/for my grandfather so your videos bring back very fond memories. Take good care of Al and make sure he keeps teaching you things. Cheers.
Diego, you done good using straight bleach! Nearly all the cleaners you get now are a combination of bleach and soap. A residue of bleach will retard further mold growth. Best part is a bottle of bleach is cheaper than other soap bleach combos. If you get pure bleach, it can be also used to purify water in an emergency, so overall a winner!
@@robertrettig7110 Actually bleach is shit for fighting mold.
Being a steward of your home has to be an amazing feeling
A sense of pleasantness when I saw the woods being split. This type of wood is soft unlike the one in my region.
Hi Diego! ❤ your videos. If you use bleach to clean the rubber seal in your refrigerator, please use water to rinsed the rubber so it doesn’t dry rot. IMO, baking soda or vinegar are the best refrigerator cleaning methods, but with the mildew you had bleach is easier, but it is best to rinse with water. 😊 Great job, thanks for bringing us along.
I have been splitting firewood for many years, I’m 64 now. I have used all types of splitting methods, which all work well. My advice to you is when you get to that point when you are over tired, Stop. I tour my rotator cuff and bicep because I didn’t listen to my body telling me to quit. Alternating left to right when splitting could also be a invitation for injury too. Ounce you hurt yourself like that your body is never the same. Ps I buy my wood now and heat my house with a outdoor wood boiler which I have had since 2006.
Maybe get yourself a gas powered log splitter. There are all kinds on the market. Save your back.
200 ahm lithium batteries, a couple solar panels, wind turbine, a pure sine wave inverter, mppt charge controller and you've got a forever dependable off grid power supply that will keep you powered up. And, yes, your fridge freezer and etc will work.. love your spirit.
i agree
Like your video because you treat things with respect. Unlike other UA-camrs, they just throws things around like trash like when they do unboxing. You keep your place with pride and well organized.
Mate to be honest, if you can do the work do it. Once you stop using your body your fitness drops off dramatically. Neighbour Al is a testament to staying fit through doing.
Diego, clearly you are a class act. I’m so impressed with your work ethic and your dedication to doing things properly and with integrity. I’m new to your channel but looking forward to reviewing more of your past vlogs. I think I heard you say, several times, that you are nearing 30, want a family, and balance in your life. Good for you. At the age of 30, having wanted all the things you seek, still single, a wise friend said to me, “God does call certain men & women to be single.” Whatever direction your life goes…just be happy. 20 plus years later I’m still single, have a very fulfilling life, I’m a damn good uncle and brother….and I’m happy. My point: keep an open mind to ALL possibilities.
Dave
Love your work effort. Some lessons from having a very large fireplace and getting side of the road firewood:
1) never ever chop facing your car ( truck), your axe head might break off and go flying.
2) facing away, your back to the car ( truck ), chop down, wood that goes flying will not fly at your car ( truck ).
3) get a weight belt, helps.
4) after your down stroke, pull the axe back, saves you energy.
5) safety boots and take a 4 inch log and place it in front of you. when you mis-strike you might put the axe head into your foot, instead it will hit the log or dirt.
6) legs spread a little, bend the knees, helps conserve energy and keeps your back ok.
Use to live in the north east, I had to chop lot's of hardwood ( maple ), on average, I found 8 to 12 cords of wood, chop from august till December and have it drying nicely. 2 year old dry wood is great. I never ran out of wood ( I dislike being stupid cold LOL ).
FYI lumberjacks back in the day burned 5000 - 8000 calories a day. it's a wonderful exercise.
Dear Mr. Diego.
👍👌👏 You're absolutely right, Sir! You don't need a log splitter! But definitely a better splitting technique and a better way to handle the wood without grabbing it so incredibly often. Both can be changed/done easily and without costing anything. Just by working smart and not so hard. 2) You achieved a lot of maintenance work. You can and should be very proud of yourself.
Thanks a lot for making explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all involved people.
Diego, I love watching you learning as you go. That life was the most satisfying I ever lived. I'm too old and wrecked now. Splitting mauls, just don't try and do it all at once and you'll be fine. I would like to see you wear some safety toe boots though, but that's me. Cleaning out flues, I've used chains for years, if there's no clean-out, put one in, you wont regret it.
Diego , it seems to me that you are taking good advice from the right people , just keep doing what you do and we'll keep watching , love to the lovely Julia , take care sir
Hi Diego,
Thx for this video. It reminds me of my younger years. Chopping wood, cleaning roofs or using the Sthil Chain saw. I^m an old Austrian guy and those were importand parts of my life, 40 years ago. But i only had a tractor ... not a cool pick-up 🙂
I love your videos ... particulary the story from Al. Hope we get a lot more of your videos.
thx
Mike
The quality, editing, filming, angles, action shots, high speed editing (stacking wood) improves every single video. Im sure you life follows, as you grow with your neighbors that love you so much, and now the forestry service in your area is aware of fine steward in his time.. this is Diego. You just keep doing you, and guys like me can attempt to be half the man you are. Your loyal viewer 🙏💪
You're blessed to have neighbors like them.
I was once told by an appliance repair person to use Vaseline on the fridge seals after you clean them up. Keeps them soft and actually creates a barrier from the grunge
Works great on the older seals, and gives them a bit extra life if they are a bit hard
Cool tip, thanks!
My weekly dose of watching you work. It is inspirational.
Thank you for taking us along. We enjoyed that. God bless.
One thing I love about you is your a very Honest person that explained your life on another video. A lot of of You Tubers are clowns and bull shit the people , but not you !!!!!!
I love your channel and have never commented on here but wanted to let you know that I appreciate your service to our country and wish you all the best. Thank you.
You do what you know you can do, one day at a time! I can see the roof and the lower side of the house as priorities, time and weather are always bad for outside stuff!! LOL!!
Yesterday I didn’t know why I was randomly drawn to your wood collecting video and today to this one but I am originally from the PNW currently traveling for several months for works. Seeing a little glimpse of “home” is very nice and your videos are very calming to me, so thank you for putting them out there.
Between you and Captain Kleeman, you inspire me to get stuff done!
Diego, you are one meticulous dude ….. I say that in the nicest way I can lol lol I really enjoy your videos. I watch every video that you put out. Keep up the good work. She looks amazing. Tiny ( Len Price ) Houston MS
I don't have the muscles to chop any woods in my backyard. I am 66 years old. I learned from you a lot. Thank you for showing us 😊
A man of means by no means but has everything he needs. Hard work pays off. I hope poor old Al gets some rest now. You are a good neighbor and friend Diego. btw, we here are still in love with your wood shed :) I am so sorry but we laughed SO HARD when that ice fell and broke everywhere xD It was as much a shock to us as you when it fell and broke. Diego, the mold that builds up on the seal of the fridge is from moisture from opening and closing the fridge. Just wipe down the seal when you notice moisture. It wont do that again ;) hopefully haha But did I die? No. xD
No rest this time of year. I'm getting my winter firewood in too
I split firewood for 6 and 1/2 years, we average 6 cordes a month, I always used a sharp 8 lb Mall.and you don't go all out, I was able to split an entire cord in one day, just don't try and beat yourself up nice and steady. I for one am enjoying your content I love it,
Ok no idea how I fell down this rabbit hole but I did ,very interesting .I am a 54 yr old woman ,I am an Aussie and it was always my dream to live in your woods our bush. I did for a long time live in a rain Forrest and I miss it every single day of my life.
First sweet when cleaning mould ,use vinegar not bleach vinegar kills mould bleach just bleaches it . Second bravo good for you young man you’re living your best life and hey free fire wood helps everyone especially you . Anyway just wanted to say hey from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 ❤❤
The thing I thought was missing from this video was a dog. New to this channel and made me want to live in a cabin in the woods. Thanks for the content.
You really should consider getting a good pickaroon like the Fiskers... it really will save your back and keep you fresher for the other work.
I enjoyed watching your video all the way from New Zealand 😎
You did an outstanding cleanup,& wood chop at your cabin Diego. Looking neat, organized,& welcoming. See ya next time.💯👍🏾😀💕🫶🏾💜✝️🙏🏾🇺🇸
Just a quick note. Vinegar works better combating mold that bleach does! It's a go too in most sail boats when they have to clean their boats that has gotten mold from sitting too long. Great work in all you do!
OMG! Diego, you are such an amazing young man and such a hard worker. When I used to go with my parents to get firewood when we got home my job was to stack the wood in our basement. I am not worried you will get the fridge done because that is the kind of person you are. LOVE FROM IOWA! 😊❤❤❤
for cleaning the fridge door seals in the future tooth brush dipped in bleach to get in the fiddley bits then wipe with warm water
Hi Diego, while the cedar shake roof on your woodshed looks amazingly beautiful it does little at keeping rainwater out sine there are open spaces between all of the shingles.
I enjoyed this because I love a good cleaning video even though, everything you showed about your week was cool as well, TFS❗️
Living the dream Diego ! Beautiful part of the world you have there. Stay safe and keep the videos coming! Regards from the UK 🇬🇧
You sure did earn your dinner choppin that wood..........and nice choice of music
When I defrost my fridge/freezer, I turn it of, put bowls/buckets with boiled water in it and close the doors. When the water is cooled down (most) of the frost is loose/melted. Then it's much easier to finish, clean and dry the freezer. Good videos 😃
That is a real time saver to place your firewood rounds in a tire for splitting. Gets rid of having to pick up sections to place back on the block. And if you rub down the head of your splitting maul with wax [old candle or canning wax block] that dry lubricates the steel so it penetrates better, and does not get stuck. Every half hour or so rub it down. Makes a big difference and saves energy.
I really enjoy watching the video and I get good information from ever one!!! take care keep safe and well!! I will see you on the next video!!
The black stuff on the rubber bands of your fridge is black mold. The best is to use some anti-mold agent; but from time to time you have to replace these rubber bands (every 10nish years). More often if black mold comes back regularly and/or the rubber becomes brittle.
I love the way you take care of your homestead.
hello from Wisconsin love the wood splitting part used to do it for extra cash so as long as you can physically do it keep doin it
Love the videos brother
They’re motivating and your focus is inspiring
I’m a new subscriber
Thank you for being a good example my friend
Kust a hint but for years we hsve been cleaning friges with bsking soda and if it is real bad adding lemon juice. Bleach is a little harsh for inside a fridge. Love your chopping wood volgs
Your woodshed is AMAZING well done loved the video
I love the videos where you are gathering and splitting firewood!
Ya may want to check the fridge door gaskets for possible replacement . When they get old and stiff they don’t seal as well and leak a bit causing condensation leading to the mold.
White vinegar works great for all cleaning. Inside and out.
man, you are a positive influence. There is nothing like camp life. i need to get me a maul
Wow! I would be dead after all that wood! Great job!😊
Excellent points on health. Everyone would do well to note Al.👍
Hi Diego. Greetings from Montreal.
I try and clean my fridge often. I find that if I let the bottom of the fridge, beneath the drawer get "Grimy" food spoils much quicker. And I clean the seals as well, because if your seals start to go, so will everything in your fridge you want to keep cool. Food spoils faster because the seals are not doing their jobs, yes?
How long did it take you to chop all that wood and then stack it? Me thinks you've got plenty of wood, but like you said before, more wood is good wood !!
Taking care of "Home" is a never ending job. I know that very well.
Really enjoy watching your videos. I'm watching from Iloilo City, Philippines. Keep on going Bro.
Your wood shed is very creative and amazing. Do you have any build some more to keep the firewood? It looks great to have some firewood shed . It's a good scenery with some full house firewood in front of your house. It's a full confidence and safe for living in here. Hope to see more creative handcraft in your garden. Waiting for your nice garden and farm will be soon to set up.
Set your ladder up 3 or 4 rungs above the gutters. It’ll give you something to hold onto and a good reference for foot placement.
Stay safe! Great show.
Splitting wood the way you are is excellent exercise and so very satisfying to turn a pile of rounds into nicely stacked split firewood.
I have got " log envy " ?
Good job with all that wood.
That amount of stock would last me 3+ years here in the UK.
Great videos, keep it up.
if you have two trees as close as you can get them near your cabin string some climbers rope/cable between them at the ridge of the roof (top peak) then use a harness chest height I see one tree close ( my right looking at the computer screen) if you have another the other side your in business
"It was dangerous, but did I die?" LOL. great video, Diego. Stay safe and God bless.
Love the tire to hold wood for splitting
Wonderful work, take care
you don't need some special splitting maul or a splitter, thats the way the old timers did it and they all ended up fine. nice to see someone taking pride in what they own id like to have a set up similar one day . cheers from the woods in British Columbia
7:19 garage side there is a tree other end there is one further away but will work for the rope/cable you know what I mean friends dad has one on his house to clean his roof has to be tight though no slack then harness with d ring on back
Nice video sir. I used to split many cords of wood by hand when younger, but have switched to two different log splitters that I got over the years. If I didn't get the two splitters, I would still split by hand and an older guys pace. You won't get hurt if you learn to do it right, and don't over exert yourself. You have good technique, so stay after it. As you can see, 80-year-olds can do it, so you should be fine.
Seeing that you do Home Depot, they sell gutter covers that have screens in them, and are 4ft sections that just snap in. I did them about 5 years ago and haven't had to clean them since. And they are relatively inexpensive.
Great job looking great keep up the great work love your videos thank you
Little tip when you are chopping your wood instead of picking it up and putting it in top of each other just cop it laying down then you don’t have to pick it up every time you chop the log in half
Extend that ladder at least 3ft above roof line . You'll find it much easier to transfer from roof to ladder.
On the blower you can see the button on the right have a little plastic for support the feet and like that make easy pull the starter!!! I hope one day i can buy a cabin and move.
Love your videos mate - inspiring
Just here for the firewood brother. Id invest in some chaps, just in case, please. Enjoy the rest of your summer neighbor, keep cuttin'!
I'd use the tree slab to make a picnic table. You need a place to chill at break time. It would be outdoor decor too.
Appreciate your content, hard work, work ethic. Impressive.
Bro I saw in another post the guy got a piece of chain and added the flat black bungee cord . It worked better than the tyre , give it a try for us .
neat stuff AND a free sandwich SCORE
That's the first time I've ever seen a propane refrigerator. I had no idea such a thing existed.
They have been used in RVs for years in fact tge RV industry is going to 12 volt style. My grandparents had a gas fridge in their summer cabin in Northern Michigan when I was a kid and I'm 60 now so you can guess they have been around for a long time. It is an amazing concept to use fire to freeze something.
Like I said before Wrap a Wire coat hanger around the handle of the splitting mall by the wedge and you will be more then happy with it after you use it a couple times.. FYI and Old man taught me that and I do it to all my handles.
Hi Diego, I split logs with my splitting axe and I only have the use of one arm. I had a stroke 4 years ago so other devices just do not work. I find a good solid block for a base is the best way to support logs to be split. I am very careful what I try to split avoiding big knots. I will try an old tyre to avoid sore shins from flying split chunks.
In the future, a bleach/water cleaning solution of 1/2 cup of bleach to two gallons of hot water is more than enough to clean your fridge. There is no need to use straight bleach.
Dig you out a place for a firewood bunker to keep a forest fire from burning all wood. Just dig a place in a hillside for a couple rows of fire wood and cover it with a tarp and dirt or rock. The hillside or embankment protects with earth on 3 sidesfrom fire. Old saying don't keep all your eggs in 1 basket holes true.
But wouldnt his house have burned down too?
Dynamics of heat dissipation & wind blowing embers causes fires to ‘ jump’ from over a mile away .California forest service has discovered that clearing flammable material away from a house will significantly lower the loss of property during wildfires
Do u think the woodstack poses a problem? He is also surrounded by trees still.
To bunker wood keeps all wood supply from burning incase it does catch on fire due to lightening. It is not a bad thing to have a wood shed but keep it all in 1 place is not smart due to fire causes.
Lightning reason makes way more sense than wild fire. Wild fire burns cabin to ground, but thank god we saved 3 cords of firewood. Makes a ton of sense!
Waving hi from Seattle ❤
I wonder why most of us do that other than location convenience putting the fridge right beside the stove may not be the most plausible idea🤣🤣🍻🍻
Your self discipline is impressive. So rare today.
A splitting maul is the best tool. I did not work out when i was younger using weights and such, I used splitting mauls and i got to where i did not know my own strength. Log splitters are okay, but mauls are for better exercise
Put large bath towels on each shelf and at the base.
Sou de Chapecó SC Brasil, achei seus vídeos de forma aleatória e adorei, estou assistindo todos eles, perfeito estilo de vida já me inscrevi no canal, parabéns!
Always good to have extra wood!
you got such a good neighbors including Al´s
Don't forget the top of the fridge! On my top 5 jobs I don't want to do #2. fridge cleaning!
Backpack leafblower on the roof? *sings* Time to do some sketchy s**t, do da! do da! Hope I get a away with it! Oh de do da day. 😁😁
You make good videos
Another beautiful stack of wood, winter insurance my grandma calls it! You have a beautiful home and glad that you are taking good care of it! Great video, now I have to clean my refrigerator!😢
soft soap is good for cleaning, and easy on the gaskets
Where do you live when you aren't at your cabin? Why don't you live there fulltime yet? Just curious. I like that you are going to keep things simple and follow the advice of old-timers like Al. Too many younger people want to forge their own path and think they know better than the older generation. It's refreshing to see someone who values all their knowledge. I am guilty of being a "forge your own way" youth in my day. No sense in reinventing the wheel. 😉
