There were multiple pits farther back, I was in one. Not sure who all those people are that paid extra and waited to get to the very front to just stand there. Granted, I have been at the front at BM shows before, and it is kinda hard to not just watch them. Especially the first times I saw them from close to the stage, I had a feeling like "How can this even be a real thing?" I don't really try to get to the front anymore. Just find the pit and stay near there if you want to have fun. You don't have to get in it, but the people in and around it are generally there to have fun.
It wasn't a gimmick. That is literally their genre. They were solely created to attract more girls and women into the heavy scene in Japan, hence "Kawaii Metal". And the rest is history. They earned their success.
They're not "fired", they just have their own personal projects going and nothing lasts forever, including this current version of the kamiband. I do have a feeling they will return soon, maybe not all together. But OTFGK

I sure hope the people further back are moshing, it's kind of sad everybody in the audience just standing there for such an amazing band.

I agree, which is why I didn’t attend. Too many bands with short sets. Babymetal did perform in San Fransisco a couple of days earlier with DeathKlok.
