Hey John - Thanks for posting this. I could not get my headset tight, and found that my headset was toast. The crown race and what I think was a reducer bushing were damaged beyond repair. the lower portion of the head tube on the Sur Ron measures approximately 55mm. The Fork tube is tapered and measures 30mm at the bottom and 28mm on the top. The upper portion of the head tube measures 45mm. Needless to say, it's been hard to find a headset with those specs. Just about everyone I've talked to says the 55mm lower cup/bearing is extremely unusual. Still working on getting my bike back together, but hope to have all the parts I need to re-assemble the headset soon. FYI - sourced them through Cane Creek Cycling components. I noticed that you're no longer running the Fast Ace forks, so you undoubtedly know this already. Just sharing for others out there who may be having problems with the headset on this bike ... which seems to be one area where the manufacturer used lesser quality components.
Great video, thanks for sharing. I own an EU model which has at large headlight assembly with a backplate blocking access to the 2 outer bolts in the triple clamp crown and to remove the back plate I need to remove the stem, which is a critical part of tightening the headset. Can you explain to me why its necessary to loosen the two outer bolts? Shouldnt it be sufficient loosening the centre bolt, and the two on the stem? Is there any more parts moving when being tightened than the central ones…? Thanks :) Allan

does not have worked for my, but thx for sharing mate. I took apart my sur-ron to the last bolt, the headset is the only major flaw I found so far
The bob ross of tightening a Surron headset... lol
This man is a saint.
I have a problem and I find a Holmes video, it's like a flashback 5 years to RC stuff but it's a bike. Mind blown LOL great video
I did exactly what u did and it’s still loose and it’s just had brand new headset bearings
Great vid pal
Thank you 😊

You mean the two bolts on the upper crown? If the upper crown doesn't slide independent of the legs, the headset can't be tightened fully.
@@HolmesHobbies Ok, thanks :). They sure made it impossible on the EU version - I will have to grind back a bracket to do that :)
@@allanrdfgdfd Nope, just remove the bracket.
Thanks mate :) i need to do mine,im also from the Facebook group :)
It worked thanks
Good to hear
Trip clamp double crown 😂
