Would love a DOF 24. Surely couldn't be that hard for them to set up for next year. I also wondered if you could be Owner. Buy a club, set budgets, set a personal wealth. I've thought about it too much...
I’ve always wanted to do this. The problem that always gets to me is not being able to hire actual managers that become available. I hope they create a DOF mode where you can actually have that freedom.
That's an interesting concept, and I'll be keeping a close eye on it. It shouldn't be that technically difficult to make a DoF-mode in football manager, since you can already choose most of the responsibilities, so all the game would have to do would be allow you to take a DoF job formally, and then lock out some manager responsibilities if you do.
Awesome first video. Peruzzi looks like a great choice for your head coach, I found with Worthing and Birmingham getting the right Assistant is absolutely the most important decision as DoF. Looking forward to part 2 😊
Great idea. Been playing FM since FM06 and just realized that since I am German, I kind of always played as a DoF. Historically, head coaches (what you would call manager) get only a small amount of input in transfers and probably none into recruiting, scouting etc. So playing a football management sim as a German was always playing as a coaching DoF
For your assistant to do well you need to think of them as a manager in terms of the attributes, e.g. tactical knowledge, level of discipline, motivating and determination. Adaptability is important too.
@@Clayts When you were looking at the Assistant Manager profiles, you should have looked at the Manager tab on the left rather than assistant manager tab
I thought of you when this was posted. You deserve a lot of credit for the concept since you're the first person I saw do it. I hope Fm makes it into a real game mode where you can be an owner or director of football.
This is awesome. I was just thinking about this last week, and wish this was an option in the actual game, where you could sign actual managers/head coaches.
The Baseball sim game, Out of the Park Baseball actually has this mode: you can choose whether you take a role of GM(director of baseball-ish), Manager, or both. I want that system for FM too!
Little tip for ne 1 following this save and 2 not full into the workpermit trap that clayts has fallen into if you load a league that starts 2 weeks b4 England starts you can use that country as your main country so the game starts on that date meaning you can have your assistant manager start just after pre season starts. If my memory is correct Czech Republic maybe a country to use
Yeah something I’ve thought about… I actually think we’ll get enough that will will organically start to take on coaching/assistant roles as we progress. Like gerrard/lampard often become coaches anyway.
I would love a version where we could play as players agents, negotiate deals, having to fulfill the players wishes, convince other players to become our clients, having to convince our players to sign with a club that pays a high agents fee and all of that stuff. Could be rlly fun imo.
When you finally get into it, you realize how little control you really have playing more as a DoF. First time I did it I 'compromised' by still controlling tactics and lineups but using instant result to sim matches. Once you find your feet (and an assistant with really high tactical knowledge) it can be really fun to do. I mean my favorite part of FM is scouting and developing anyway. Maybe I might give this type of save another go when I'm done with my current one. Good video mate.
this should be a game mode, where you can hire/fire coaches too just like the assistants. but where you can make the club vision and set expectations... has genuine potential, maybe a little bit too much considering SI's limited game development over the years
In some of my saves my assistant became the manager of the year.. because i leave matches to him as i go on holiday but i chose the starting 11 and the tactic
I'm a Arsenal fan and I would really like to test this with arteta as my assistant.. But I guess i need editor for that or maybe maybe change some files to get the assistant in my team to actually be the "manager" so you actually can sign manager's thats looking for a New job
As a Spurs fan I came here hoping to escape the grim reality that is this season. Not sure you've helped 🤔 but I'll be back to see how this goes. Fun take on a save, can see this catching on. 😁
If Peruzzi doesn't work out maybe don't give up on the concept but change it slightly and start using the editor to "sign" the manager that you would like (whitin reason) for the assistant role.
Yeah I thought about this! In a couple of seasons you can usually pick up some more esteemed managers as assistants as well - the gerrards or Lampards of the world. If things go pear-shaped let’s turn it into a DOF Journeyman!
I've flipped my Brighton save in to this about 4 weeks ago to try it for a season. Really enjoying it so far! Get a skin that allows for 'instant result' though - much easier than going on holiday each time.
I think I do more silly than be DOF. I have given all the match day responsibilities to the assistant coach and all the negociating to the Dof. I just select who we target for player and staff hires, and who we offer contract extensions too. Been doing it for years. I tell them what training to do though.
Would have gone for the Dutch guy who was probably de Boer’s assistant at Palace. Vio must surely play for set pieces and not much else? Not sure there’s merit on having a set piece coach in charge!
@@Clayts yeah I guess you're right, even though you could select the assistant's favorite tactic and make him choose the team. But maybe going on holiday creates more diverse tactics and team selections.
Hey @clayts - I have a quick question - I've started a Charlton DoF save - brought in a manager. I've set the tactic to his preferred formation and style of play - he's flying, we are 5 games in and top of league one. However, I still seem to have to watch each game and 'accept' substitution suggestions. How do I avoid this? I'm pretty sure i've given him as much control as I can - do you just go on holiday for the day?
You can set yourself as unable to be fired with the editor (I think) and that would then let you truly be the director of football and hire/fire as you need.
The wisest move was removing Stellini. In real world on 23/04/23 under his management Spurs lost 6-1 to Newcastle, that was one of the most embarrassing matches as a Spurs supporter of 37+ years I had to endure.
