Thank you, Rockwiz, wish you were still recording episodes. Some of the best live music.... Gotta love Belew, that bloke radiates joy every time I see him play.
I’d forgotten about this gem . 2 of my favorites and how great together ?! And Martha being so unattainably sexiful...that voice+those moves . And Adrian Belew , he’s just a huge and easy talent . Holy cats ! I forgot , Bowie was still around . Yeah , he approved .
Remember watching this live on Rockwiz back in the day,and being a fan of Zappa,Adrian’s guitar work on this track is amazing. Still gives me chicken skin all those years later.
Adrian's finest work I seen was on a movie called "Baby Snakes," Frank Zappa Concert from 70s,he sang "City of Tiny Light's" on it which features on Zappa's album "Sheikh yer booty" if you in to guita, R'n'R, highly recommend, don't have to be a Zappa fan to enjoy it as the musicians are top of Their game, Terry Bozzio,Steve Vai Also, as session musicians,in my top 10 concerts for sure
Yeah, it's a great show, top class house band with James Black (The Black Sorrows) guitar, Hammond organ Mark Ferrie (former member of Sacred Cowboys and Models (band)) - bass guitar Peter "Lucky" Luscombe - drums who are a treat on their own and when we see people of the quality of Belew and Martha Wainwright on the show it's just awesome. I never miss the show.
You are aware David Bowie was flabbergasted Adrian Belew could play it live, as it was composed of three takes by Fripp and he thought that couldn't be done on stage?
My longtime singing partner now lives in Florida,,,, I live in Philly.....so, Ms. Martha, if you were in town, I would look forward to taking swing at singing with you....my credentials: scant....but hey: faint heart never won fair maiden, right? Your work is a great joy!
Along with Motorhead's (really!) unexpectedly good cover this is another great rendition. Good chemistry between the two and done their way. However IMO Bowie's original version remains the definitive one.
Adrian Belew plays this song standing. Robert Fripp has to sit all time when he does the same thing. Of course they have different style. Anyway Adrian Belew is amazing.
Martha? Oh, great Darn it! Now I got another musician crush starting up, and at 60 I should be too old for that, I think(?) Arrested development from my teenage years. First, it was Candy Dulfer (saxy funky beauty!) years ago, then Alison Balsom (trumpet virtuoso...instrument I majored on...i'd like to show her my embouchure! ;-), then Tal Wilkenfeld (Jeff Beck's bass player a while back...that hair...that smile!! And she is smokin' on the bass!), then.. let's see, oh, Beth Hart (seen her sitting in with Gov't Mule...growwlllll! Nice kitty!), then Joss Stone, Imogene Heap...and..well, you'll be happy to know I'm containing my infatuation with Samantha Fish and the Mona Lisa Twins rather well! I used to dig Annie/St. Vincent...but she got real/too skinny! Then again....hmmm...maybe not(!) Now, what was I commenting on...? Oh, yes - take it away Martha! Somebody's 'Hero'!!! ;-)
@@eis904 Noooo...never stopped listening! Simply noting she seemed to go from 'petite' to 'real skinny' about when she won the Grammy & reformed the band. She's nonetheless a beautiful & uniquely talented young lady! (Studied at Berklee - only serious cats go there!) I was into St. Vincent back when 'Actor' came out but mainly after incidentally seeing her perform on some show on DirecTV (Bob & Tom...Conan?) late one night - 2009/10 - before school (I was teaching HS band back then) and not only fronting a band with a unique & complex tonal & rhythmic vocabulary but playing some intense frenetic guitar, too! (Next day I went into school & told my HS classes to be on the lookout for this band to get more attention/fame: they got the reincarnated spirit of Jimi Hendrix playing lead! (She actually has her own custom model guitar made/sold by the Reverend guitar company....Unknown Hinson has a model they make as well). In closing, I took a friend up to St. Louis in 2011 to a small small, but cool, little club after the release of 'Strange Mercy'. I stood just 12 - 15 feet or so from her & the whole band that night. I even bought 'SM' on vinyl there...so did my friend who really enjoyed the concert without any inkling of what this band was about. The bummer was: after the concert we went and sat on a bench right next to her Greyhound tour bus which was only about 50' away from the venue...and looked all through our new record albums...and sat...and sat....and looked....and sat...30 to 45 minutes...and there was NOBODY else around...no groupies/fans...except us. and she or nobody from the band came out of the bus & it should've been obvious/easy to see 'hey look, a couple of fans who bought albums, too! Annie, go sign 'em for 'em!' Didn't happen. :-( Since I was 52 at the time, and she was like 28, I think there was some gerontological stigma going on...esp. since I was like the 1st person she saw walking into the venue to start the 1st set. She prob thought "Ewww...gross....what's that old bastard stalker doing here!?" LOL! But I know I'm pretty fly - really fly - for my age & station in life! And that, Miss Eileen, is a recollection of a musical event via a skinny female artist reference as told by one who majored in Music History in grad school, and who likes to randomly bore the socks off of unwitting commenting UA-camrs! ;-) (Uh, there could be a short quiz over this material by Friday...make sure to review these notes by then!) Cheers!
She is the daughter of Loudon Wainwright and Kate McGarrigle. She has made a few quirky records and has a strong fan base amongst those who appreciate the McGarrigle clan. I think it's an acquired taste.
i wish she had have learned the lyrics rather than reading them. she made some mistakes and she could have put more into it if she knew the words. sounded good though.
Martha Wainwright, way out of her depth here. 'Heroes' was never meant to be sung with a cartoon voice Absolutely dreadful performance . . . which gets worse the more you listen to it. Sterling guitar-work from Adrian Belew though, (who has actually performed this song on-stage with David Bowie, by the way)
Dick Head She is great on the performance by itself and who she is besides. Cartoon voice? This is only pop music and they are just having fun, which is what it is all about.
What a stunning performance. Martha and Adrian really nailed it. Absolutely beautiful!
Belew is at such ease with his guitar.
Oh my gosh freaking golly!!!!!Martha!!!!! What a singer!!!!! Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!
Thank you, Rockwiz, wish you were still recording episodes. Some of the best live music.... Gotta love Belew, that bloke radiates joy every time I see him play.
Yep-goosebumps.
absolute blisssss - bothe Belew & my beloved Martha W. David smiles from Heavens!
Amazing talent doing an incredibly good cover with the best band in Australia backing it... Stunningly good stuff!
Can’t stop listening to this….
Feel good music.!...you guys are brilliant! Thank you so much. X
Remember watching this live on Rockwiz back in the day,and being a fan of Zappa,Adrian’s guitar work on this track is amazing.
Still gives me chicken skin all those years later.
This Adrian Belew is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next to Johnny Cash's Hurt this is the best cover I ever heard.
I was at both of bowies 78 concert s at the showgrounds, adrians guitaring was incredible. Top band.
you can tell that Adrian is holding out on people... that dude is an explosion waiting to happen at all times
That verse by Belew is the best Bowie impression that I've ever heard.
Adrian's an extraordinary mimic
not a Bowie impression - he wrote it
OMG! Such a cover!,
Fabulous!!
An original artist. Go on Ms. Wainright!!!
Guitar.......Classic riff for all times...
Amazingly good live cover version. I wasn't aware of them, but will now look them up. Thanks for enlightening me 👍
Agreed...me too...Been aware Belew for decades but never seem him do this Bowie tune live solo...good stuff..
12 years after le OFF de Québec...still madly in love with you Martha!!
This is a delightfully bonkers version of Bowie's best song.
Martha is always wonderful and Belew just smokes,....always.
I would certainly trust the opinion of a guitar regarding whether or not Mr. Belew "just smokes"
brilliant cover, great unexpected combo.
Have to admit, only discovered Martha when she sung with Snow Patrol. Glad I did though, she is amazing!!!!
Yay Adrian!!! Hope to see you in the next life.
I think this was the first time I saw Martha (when the show actually aired). I have been hooked ever since.
Rockquiz should return! The amount of amazing covers is so astounding!
RocKwiz -- one of the great music shows!
such an amazing performance!

I'm a big fan of Bowie and this is absolutely beautiful!❤
Best version of Heroes on YT.
Nice voices good version. Heroes is a masterpiece .
Fantastic.✨✨✨
Love Love Love this!
My first introduction to Martha Wainwright, after being a fan of her father Louden Wainwright III since the seventies.
Yeah, it's a great show, top class house band with James Black (The Black Sorrows) guitar, Hammond organ
Mark Ferrie (former member of Sacred Cowboys and Models (band)) - bass guitar
Peter "Lucky" Luscombe - drums who are a treat on their own and when we see people of the quality of Belew and Martha Wainwright on the show it's just awesome. I never miss the show.
Legendary.
Crazy Mad. I love it.
Martha never met a song she couldn't do justice
Gives me great respect for that guitar line -- as played by Fripp
You are aware David Bowie was flabbergasted Adrian Belew could play it live, as it was composed of three takes by Fripp and he thought that couldn't be done on stage?
@@HendrikRood I'm.... not flabbergasted.
stunning
Great version!!
Martha sounds just like Maria McKee of Lone Justice.... remarkable.
they are wonderful together.
Magnificent
Love this!!!
amazing...no doubt...
Bad Ass man

GOOD EH ! got it all, and some !
Thanks for sharing
Who is more fun than Adrian Belew? - I'll wait...
i would like to share a glass of red wine with martha
Belew Is Awesome. Crazy Fripp was the one that played on the original.
Brilliant!
Adrian is an amazing guitarist and probably the only guy that can pull of a skullet.
That ol' pub rock anthem as ya know it
Blows one away
maravilloso
Sweet!
Along with Motorhead's (really!) unexpectedly good cover this is another great rendition. Good chemistry between the two and done their way. However IMO Bowie's original version remains the definitive one.
I have it on good authority that Martha had no knickers on here
Does it get any better .....
Adrian Belew plays this song standing. Robert Fripp has to sit all time when he does the same thing. Of course they have different style. Anyway Adrian Belew is amazing.
Fun!!
Awesome cover mates
O SELO PSICOSE RIO GB 1969. MESTRE ROBERTO CABOTAGEM MCB MM
There’s a live version from ‘78 with a very young Adrian Belew on here...videos kinda crap but it’s pretty awesome

Annie got too skinny?? So you stopped listening? That’s a weird thing to say.

Is she famous in The UK? Im from tge States and have never heard of her. What's ger claim to fame? Belew on the other hand..im a fan from way back!
She is the daughter of Loudon Wainwright and Kate McGarrigle. She has made a few quirky records and has a strong fan base amongst those who appreciate the McGarrigle clan. I think it's an acquired taste.
aha!...and this is that..
I just love belews guitar but compares to Bowie's!
Good lordy thst bastard can play guitar
Now that is what I call punk.
Where oh Where can you buy a copy of this
Try itunes or apple music, whatever it is these days.
'Sex on a stick' is the term I am looking for
More fun than Bowie
Interesting, never thought they overdubbed Rockwiz, but check out 1:48, he's playing the wrong chords...
No chance
@FEARLESS FREET...THEY ARE NOT MARRIED!!!! THEY ARE NOT TOGETHER, LEARN A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE ARTISTS!
origin
Adrian and Martha ooze filth....
i wish she had have learned the lyrics rather than reading them. she made some mistakes and she could have put more into it if she knew the words. sounded good though.
I....I wish he could sing.
So...I love Adrian and Martha. But this is highly sexual...I mean Guitar stuff and Martha...but did they have sex???? I'm a muscisian 😂😂😂
