People are acting like these machines are expensive...yet people will spend $1000+ every year on a new iPhone like clockwork. You’re buying one Xbox every 7+ years- maybe. Lol.
Not defending either side, but you do use your phone way more than your console.
AANation360 but do you use an annual $1000+ worth of your phone? How many people really use their phone to the point where last year’s wouldn’t suffice?
no your not. sorry but i bought a ps4, under three years later the ps4 pro came out. it didnt just have a biger hd it didnt just shrink the console, it gave you a better gpu and better fps, im tight so i didnt by the ps4 pro but all most all my friends did and to me the ps4 pro was a new console. to me this has shortened the console cycle to 3 years. yeh i think 7 year cycle was awsome but i have a weeker system in every way from the ps4 pro and was gutted. this is another marketing method to get people to buy more. pc had lasted 12 years and a new gpu every 3-4 years meand computers are cheaper than p[s4 was if you buy pro. i didnt mind buying a console every 7 years, i do mind buying 2 in 7 years. so ill wait till 2022 and simply buy a referb ps5 or a ps5 slim once the ps5 pro comes out. besides its not like the ps4 had loads of games in its fiorst year, it really didnt.
Who thinks that these are expensive? These are dirt cheap for what they are

Digital games SHOULD cost LESS than a physical copy. Period.
Absolutely, at least 25% maybe 30% less.
True
No. Same game, same price.
Agreed@@IHateStaticFN
@@IHateStaticFN same product ❌
Physical product has production and material costs that have previously been paid for by consumer.
Digital product has erased those production costs yet the consumer still pays for them as if they're there. Worst thing is, the consumers money doesn't go to increase the wages of the developers.
Digital games should be cheaper than physical disc games.
If you bought the digital version...you can’t resell it if you wanted to. (I’m sure GameStop is sweating profusely as games transition towards digital)
MWA, great point.
The resale of games has let me experience/afford a lot of new games as well
There’s much more convenience in digital versus selling a physical game years later for $8
@@sneakerjoe23 ... at least i will make $8, i have many many digital games on PS4, Xbox and Steam that i haven't play for few months and years, wish i could sell them.
As am I. I miss the days of going into a game store and looking at all the games and reading the cases.
What about the collectors? My brother in law still owns Dreamcast with 200+ games even some imported from Japan.

2. What is 4k resolution?

Helps when your internet is down, you can still watch your movies.
i lived in alaska for a few years. internet was pretty much nonexistant. this statement is really true.
Yeah it is true, but for gaming, the discs mean nothing anymore. When you insert the disc, it will download the game anyways. The physical copy only acts as an acces key. At least on the Xbox.
But your point stands for other stuff.
@@IbnuCuruk not necessarily it copies a lot from the disc and downloads much less , the digital download is the full game download, but when I download cyberpunk it only downloaded 37 Gigs out of 100 gigs

"We are not living in that world anymore..." and behind him he has books and LPs. This is the way the hipsters are.
Yep, this guy hasn't heard or read about Kindle, so he's still in that world
Are digital books really that popular? I've never met a single person that actually buys digital books.
As a millenial would say "I just push a button and it works, if it doesn't I buy a new one that does" genius!
I came here to type this. I buy physical games because the price is the same but the physical item will hold value far longer, not just the intrinsic value of being able to play the game after the next console cycle, but the real market value as a collectible item. It's about value and preservation and I realize I give up a bit of convenience to do that, but that's the choice I make in todays world, which I'm still living in.
Why are you so butt hurt lol
I understand you keep saying "we're no longer living in the era of optical drives", but consider that nearly half of the gaming community is also a collector community. Many of us don't want to just play "one and done". We want to keep that physical game, display it and revisit it anytime we'd like.
I also agree with a previous comment that digitally downloaded games should be cheaper than physical releases. They're saving the cost of production and should therefore offer an invective to gamers they're trying to move towards digital.
What's the difference in one s , series s or series x .. do they all have same server where u can play each other nomatter what console it is
Half? That's a stretch
More likely physicals copies will increase in price 😂
Half? You got a source for that or are you just making an assumption? I only know one collector and he only collects older games and systems.
Hahaha, half the Xbox community! Tears legit came to my eyes laughing at how delusional you are
*You* are not living in that world anymore.
A study by Microsoft in 2018 estimated that about half of Americans - 163 million people - do not have high-speed internet at home.
Now remember the rest of the world.
Maybe some people are ok with low resolution streaming, stuttering, frequent disconnections and drop outs in their next gen gaming. I have a relative who is fine watching VHS quality movies on his 4k TV but that's a whole other conversation.
Rest of the world is probably doing better 🤔
well consoles in general have been known to download games incredibly slow, but fortunately this next gen is supposed to help with the download speed
You don't need fast internet tho, as you can leave the console downloading a long time
@@fede1324ee yeah per game, what about if you want a few of them? Digital is about having it now, not downloading it overnight or the weekend. I can go to the store and buy the physical copy quicker than that then if i dont like it return it for a full refund before your download finishes.
I get your argument with the download games, BUT it also removes ownership and the ability to buy and resell old games completely which imo is a huge part of the gaming experience especially for budget minded gamers such as myself.
Normally I’d go with the cheaper option but the Disc drive and the storage are the driving factors for the series x over the s for me.

Check facts use logic and reason but also include your emotions just not too much and you can decide wether something is good for you personally or not. This whole I’m not going to do what other people are doing because someone said it was a good idea to do it or someone said to do it is just really annoying to me.I understand somethings you shouldn’t always do because someone said to do it I understand that. You shouldn’t always conform to an idea that’s the point you shouldn’t put yourself in a catalog with a label. Just look at things for what they are and make a decision. All this man was saying is that “we” as human beings are technologically past optical drives. We as in technical terms are past that point in time for optical drives but some people such as you and I prefer optical drives. Just stop being the thing you’re trying to eliminate all I’m saying
@@xdimokox5269 You're not looking at the facts. When something is physical you actually own it, when it's digital it can all be taken away on a whim. Sony could respond by pricing the PS5 digital edition at $349. So for only $50 more than the Xbox Series S, you’ll get a console that plays 4K games with a bigger SSD. Sony could also undercut the Series X by pricing the PS5 with the disc drive at $449. Sony would lose some money on each unit, maybe around $50, but they could prevent MS from trying to stage a “comeback” this generation. No matter what happens, MS made a brilliant move with the Series S and now it’s Sony’s pricing move.
This comment didn't aged well
At all
sony only increased the price
Neither company actually makes money on the consoles anyways. They just price to prevent to much loss. Both make their money off the games they sell not the consoles.
So here's a question: if it costs so much more to produce and ship the hard copy of the game (which can be shared with your friends, etc), then why does the digital version cost the same exact amount??
because they get discounted on the online stores less often, no pre owned market there either. price is controlled by microsoft and/or sony
Because then the hard copy will be excluded only to hardcore collectors. It's just money making ngl

Eventually I would be paying the 200 difference, whether in hidden costs or on a 3rd party drive, hard disks, etc. Thanks for the short and nice comparative.
The biggest thing this and every single other comparison video doesn't tell you is this. The series s is like playing a game on pc at medium settings, the series X is like its on ultra. Forget the resolution stuff the actual quality of the graphics is insane! If you ACTUALLY want next gen get the series x. I finally upgraded from the s to the x and the difference on the same monitor absolutely blew my tiny mind.
Do you have to have a 4k monitor to tell the differences?
Your mind is not tiny

1:19 your wrong dude, everyone wants optical drives and physical disk for games. You cant resale your games and trade if your downloading them. Always have the game disk.
I do agree with the need of wanting a optical drive. I love having the actual game cd. (You can play whenever you want) however, I see optical drives on its way out.😭 The best thing that I would do is buy external drives to back up games. The Series S looks interesting.
I’ve started thinking about that myself. I’ll miss the process of holding the actual game in my hand. I already have a couple of games downloaded, but I guess it’s the old part of me going way back to the cartridge era of games(yes…I’m the old head here)where you can build your collection of multiple cases.

Series S should have had an optical drive. You are passé that era but here in Africa we are still in that era. Internet is choppy and expensive. A game download is literally 2 months worth of internet for me
Now days u need internet even for physical games to download their huge updates
Same in cyprus, you pay like 30 euros for a 10 mbbps internetspeed, games take like 2 or 3 days to install if not on the disc
Sorry man, truly and that's honestly a really good point
Why should the Series S have an optical drive? The Series X has an optical drive. If you need one, you can just buy the Series X. Simple as that.
YOU NEED TO MOVE
Xbox series X: Mini fridge
Xbox series S: Speaker
Ps5: Router
Ps5: air conditioning
I'd actually go for the Series S. I have a 1440P gaming monitor so the Series S would be perfect. The problem I have is that I'd like to see a side by side comparison of a next-gen game running on both the Series S and the Series X. If I see that the game company has to start tweaking the levels of detail, shadows, draw distances etc just to get that game running decently on the Series S then that would be a Series S deal killer for me. I'd take the financial hit and buy the series X and upgrade to a 4K monitor instead.
I’m waiting for something like this, I’m really torn what to get at the moment. If both will look the same or similar playing games then I’d get the S. I’m not interested in being able to flick between several games instantaneously or 2 second load times. If this is all the X has to offer over the S I’d rather save the £200
I'm also really curious to see if there's any differences graphically. I've always felt that it's going to come down to what kind of TV you plan on using. It's just really frustrating listening to all the Facebook experts 'laughing' saying it's just an Xbox X in a new shell, when I'm not entirely sure they know what they're actually talking about 🤷♂️. The Series S could actually turn out to be a bargain. (Obviously, I want to get the X, but I am curious)
I I’ll
Series x is still better even if you only have a 1440p monitor cause the series s will run most 120 fps games at 1080p for instance call of duty, Fortnite, and most 120 fps games. However the series x will run those games at 120 fps 1440p so if you have a 1440p monitor and plan on playing 120 fps games you prob wanna go with the series x if you care about getting 1440p I own both the s and x and I’m happy I got the x just for this reason alone. Also the X handles 120 fps much better then the series s while running at a higher quality.

4k to me on video games doesn't look like a change at all unless it's on pc. 1440p on the series s has been incredibly amazing and is a power house of a machine from what your getting huge huge upgrade from 360 and old gen consoles. Then you have game pass ultimate it's the best console to buy on the market. The PlayStation 5 shines from its amazing exclusives when it's available to buy i will get it.

How much is PS+ now?
Its been a rough year for sure with groceries getting more and more expensive. $299 for me for Xbox; but I’ll need to get a PS5 too 😂
I disagree with you on the optical drive, it is very very very useful for reselling games and it has saved me hundreds of dollars by doing so and if you have digital you cant sell none and the 200$ difference will pay for it self when you have optical and reselling games. This also allowed me to play all the best games out there without spending thousands and reselling it.
I personally do not mind deleteing a game or 2 for a new one. You can always come back an switch em out . Plus i mean you would expect the download speed given you have good internet would be pretty quick on the new gens
amen
Besides price, why would they put less memory into the digital only xbox when you'd probably need more memory than the disc based? I feel that it would be annoying to have to delete and redownload games once you run out of memory or have to get an external drive. Half a terabyte will probably only be able to hold 5-10 games at the current rate game data sizes are increasing.
That and when I finish a game I delete it.
So is x or s better
Most people don’t have 4k tv and still buy the series x when it won’t make a visual difference 🤣😭
"There's no point in optical drives in consoles" "we're not living in that world anymore" except for, you know, the fact that you can often find physical copies of games for half the price you'd pay in the Xbox or PS store. Over the life of a console that can be a massive difference in money spent. Not to mention people who don't have access to good internet.
Let’s not forget the first Xbox 360 was around 500, that’s how much my parents paid for mine years ago
$399 but scalpers in 2005 made it higher.
Pretty sure Microsoft indicated you’d have to buy their specific external drives for Xbox Series X/S. I don’t know that the price points for those drives have been released so buying 3rd party drives that are generally expected to be more inexpensive might not be an option. Also, without an optical drive, you’re really committing to Game Pass and, while there is a ton of content there, it’s not really a whole lot of new content per say. Residually, without an optical drive you can’t really take advantage of game price drops as you’re committed to the monthly subscription of Game Pass in Series S. For more casual gamers, I actually think the Series X actually makes more sense in the long run when comparing $200 more dollars for Series X versus the annual subscription costs of Game Pass required by Series S. All together, the larger saving capacity, performance, and optical drive for only $200 more makes way more sense vs less storage, less performance, and a long-term commitment to game pass.
Go outside and get some sun.
Lmao go out clubbing or something
We are not passed the optical drive era. The only way we will get past that era is to return to solid state drives where in games will be in cartridges (or thumb drives) again and load instantly. Not to mention if you buy a game in digital format you cannot sell it if you decide you don't like it or don't want it anymore. If they want to go all digital. The way to do it is going to be putting the entire console in the controller and the only thing that attaches to your TV is a wireless video adapter plugged into your HDMI port. The technology is there just look at cell phones. However the cost of making this puts the price of the game console/controller would be similar to a high-end cell phone upwards of $1, 500. The major problem with this is the hardware. Not necessarily the hard drive or processor but the stick gimbals and buttons. Because these are mechanical devices they wear out much faster and need to be replaced. This is the advantage of every console out there right now because for about 50 bucks you can get a new controller and with GameStop you can purchase a protection plan that allows you to ensure that you have that controller for 2 years. The controller I have right now I've had for about a year and the sticks are getting a little sloppy but I purchased the two-year plan and will probably go in today and trade out the controller for a new one. For free. If you ask me the next generation game console should be open source. If Elon musk came out with a game console that was open sourced. And allowed any programmer to create software for it.. such as an emulator that allows you to turn this console into any console from the original Atari all the way up to the Xbox X and PlayStation 5... Oh wait we already have this it's called a PC. Another advantage to having an optical drive is the ability to pop in DVDs and Blu-ray movies. In short we will not see the end of the optical era until quantum computing takes it to the next level. I'd be interested to see what types of storage we would be looking at with that. My guess would be some sort of optical solid state. Kind of like what you see in the movie minority report or the way Cortana is stored in Halo
There are a ton of beautiful 4k uhd releases happening and they can’t be matched by streaming so yeah I need that optical drive
IMO big part of game console market are people with collector mindsets, even if they don't subscribe to the label of being one, and collecting digital games just isn't the same thing. over time they will likely find out that the market will shrink, people will gradually stop buying as many games. same thing happened with music and movies going from physical -> digital.
Why do companies price things ‘299’ instead of just ‘300’? We’re not stupid, taking a dollar off doesn’t make it a better deal just because the number now starts with a 2 instead of a 3.
Some people are though.
S series for my daughter for Christmas then, yay. Thanks very much for this summary, saved me lots of time, now I just need to ask her father to go halves, if I dare lol 👍🥳
“Optical Drive” as he says isn’t necessary but it’s for those older players that are not as inclined to digital purchases or get stressed out with all the new content added every time, it’s for those f krs okay and also its nostalgic af for those that like to keep something of their childhood. like having to use a tray to play your game or movie just like they release or remake old games or movies it’s for the older generation and newer. Don’t hate learn to appreciate.

The improvements of this generation look so minimal over the current it’s like they just scraped together whatever ideas they could to build these rather than just updating the current platforms.
I have the one x and am on the fence as to which one to get🤔 just not sure if the new S is worth me going for.
The series X is probably the right choice for me, i wonder if we will see “enhanced” older games like we did when the 1x came out?

We *are* still living "in that world" with physical media.
I expect to own a physical artifact of my property where it is at all possible. Where no physical media is even possible, I evaluate my future risk accordingly.
I typically refuse to be dependent upon an external party to maintain support for my property in order for my property to work.
Yeah lets all buy digital games, and digital food.... I cant wait to eat my digital pizza tonight.
There are some of us that like the convenience of having an optical drive. I double up my Xbox as a blu-ray player to avoid multiple hardware and remotes. I also enjoy retaining a hard copy of games as I own them. I do not subscribe to the digital “rental” as this platform stops you from sharing with others less fortunate than yourself.

Records and basically a novelty at this point.
Well you must acknowledge the fact that the second hand game market doesn't benefit the developers in any way. Its just similar to how piracy works on PC.
Yeah that guy is such a tool.

Its 2023 and Optical Drives are still preferred.
I’m gonna go series S because I have a 1440p 144hz monitor. I also have a 4K 65 inch tv but I’m sure 2k upscaled to 4K will look great.
How is it?
Yes, mate. We may be past the optical drive era but we all own thousands of dollars of disks.
It would be nice to be able to play them occasionally in our current Xbox without re purchasing them online.
This probably isn't an issue for you given your contacts, access to prereleases , free games and your 3.7 million subscriber driven wealth but for the rest of us, its a big deal.
Honestly, the fact that you seem to be so out of touch with your demographics just stopped me subbing.
Sadly this video answered nothing for me. Does the series S even have the proprietary expansion for storage?
This guy only says. "uhm uh you can buy external hard drives like people do today".
I have the series x. But not gonna lie, I don’t use disc’s because I lose all my stuff and I actually almost threw away my Minecraft disc. But then dug through the garbage and found it. And astonishingly it still worked, but then I almost lost it but then found it under my table where my tv and Xbox sits. My friend has the series s, but he actually wanted the series x. He got jealous when he saw I got my series x. Truth is I rather the x more than the x because I mean 120 FPS is great. Same thing for 1TB if storage. It’s honestly great with its upscale of up to 8k.
not living in disc world? well, according to survey, most people still watch DVDs, yes DVDs, in the age of bluray and UHD movies
True. Buying all digital edition makes you completely depend on their online platform. Just imagine how many games you would have to buy in a console generation. With a non-digital console, you can resell the game and invest in the next game. Buying a non-digital version may seems expensive but in the long run, you will have more freedom how you want to buy ur game.
I personally like buying physical copys of the disc. It has a slight advantage
In a way it seems like you would save £200 but you would then need a big hard drive which will cost a decent amount, you would also have to buy all of games online which are usually higher priced than in shops and then you would have no trade in value in the future on any downloaded games. So yeh the benefit of the extra £200 saving in the long run isn't really saving you anything, long term with the extra storage requirements, online game prices and no trade in value the Series S will end up costing you more.
1:30 you do realise that with an optical drive you can actually fully OWN your games, and have access to much cheaper second hand deals, and more places to purchase?
People like to collect physical media to know they own something and not something that can be taken away at a moments notice digitally. Which has happened a lot with digital games being taken off marketplaces. Ill be going for optical every time.
Something you forgot to mention is the fact that some of us have tons of dvds, and need a dvd player
The thing about optical drives is say your getting a new game and it’s like 50 for digital download but you know you can get it cheaper as a disc somewhere else that’s the thing that I like to just have that other option.
This is actually quite annoying cause i can't really afford a series x but i don't want to kiss my games goodbye, cause i have a lot of the ones i like on CD. Downloads are expensive and replacing them would cost a fair bit.
I’ve been trying to get the ps5 since drop(almost a year) and I’ve had the same issue not being able to afford some bundles and I have A LOT of ps5 disc games, but I just found Xbox series s on Best Buy, so I might just kiss them goodbye and switch teams😭
If you buy the digital version, you're are falling into the company's game of consuming and buy at their price and everytime. If you buy a physical copy of the game, you can share the game, you can get it used at a cheaper price, and you can resell them ( specially in the future they'll cost more). Don't be lazy and get out of your room, you need to exercise once in a while.
Unless it's Steam
They’re selling it for $1,000 and there are no consoles available any where. COVID sucks
I might just buy the series X for the extra storage
Emporio Alniño it’s rumored to be around $150-200 per terabyte.
Can't you throw a external usb drive on the console and store the games that way? I heard you only have to transfer the games to the console when you want to play them as the speed of the external usb drive is not fast enough.
It's now announced. $220 USD, just $80 less than a new Series S! I'd wait a year to buy the external storage when it drops in half price wise.
I have both and imo if you only play free to play like Fornite, Apex, Warzone, CoD or if you play FIFA, Madden, NBA2k. Series S its enough. Series X is pretty much if you like campigns/story games. Like Hellblade, Palworld, A plague tale for example.
It also depends what type of tv or monitor you have for the Series X
@@Josh.Pointerhow about a monitor with 1 milliseconds of response? Is it enough?
I think the digital version is gonna be awesome
Not everyone can afford to buy every game full price so the only logical thing is to buy the console with the disk drive. Please don't be so naive next time you make a video like this.
Which is why Gamepass is such a good deal, you're getting an insane amount of games without having to use the disk drive.
Make sure the Series S isn’t hiding in his bookshelf
Have Ps5 I Was In Walmart I Walk Through The Game & Seen How Cheap The S Series Was Got It Haven’t Regret It Since All The Old Games They Have That PlayStation Don’t Been PlayStation Guy Since The First One I’m Impress By Xbox👍🏾
512gb and digital-only? yikes
It’s a PCIE ssd so no problem there
Go buy a 2 TB hard drive for $50 and you’ve got 250% of the series x storage and it’s still $150 cheaper
It has expandable storage... you can add terabytes to it with hard drives. Storage isn’t an issue here.
It has expandable storage... you can add terabytes to it with hard drives. Storage isn’t an issue here. Also they made it digital only to make it more compact and cheaper.
@@johncatanzaro4998 "Yikes"? What? Are you mad that consumers who only need that much get a next-gen console for an incredible price, while you can just expand it individually?
“…we’re not living in THAT(discs) world anymore…”
Literally sitting in front of a shelf of physical books and LPs.
Not having a disk drive for computers is a lot less weird than it missing from a console, I have lots of game disks and it would kinda suck to not play them, I could plug an external one in maybe and play that way
And then one day MS says "OK. No more store for you" and all of your digital games just don't exist anymore.
We are not past that era.... people want the ability to re sale games... versus being stuck with a game a 65 to 70 dollar price points.
Just something special about having games in their physical form is sexy
We arn't living in that generation anymore?? Sir I concur that I still love my blue ray movies and refuse to get rid of my old 360 and xbox 1 games which is * PAID FOR * I understand your concept of we are past this stage but technically.. legends never die!
You got to think of one thing some people still loves using CDs we understand we're past that stage but not everybody loves digital stuff I'm old-school so I still love my CDs DVDs and disc games
Same Having a disc drive is better that's where people who don't have physical
One year later and still can’t find it in stock
Physical media forever.
funny how we've 'moved out of the optical drive era', while you have a record player in the background
On Sept 22 i’ll be 1st in line to pre order the Xbox series X! The 4k gaming will look great on my new 4k 65” Samsung TV!
You cant game on a 64” inch tv, the input delay will be like 2 seconds
The Smash Brothers my tv is pretty good cuz it has a low latency mode called game mode.
The Smash Brothers pretty sure the series x is designed for large TVs anyway with the focus on 4K
@The Smash Brothers what you about mate I’ve had a 4K Samsung 65” for about 2 years and don’t have any input lag it works perfectly
i literally couldn't buy ANY optical media at Best Buy yesterday. Optical drives just don't apply anymore.... I'm serious about physical copies of console games, i can't afford not to be able to sell games I'm done playing, but for REAL, the medium of discs is legacy.
The cheaper one for me. I'm really only interested in playing a few games these days. All single player games. My xbox mostly functions as a streaming device that can play games. As a 40 yr old, online gaming is just too fast for me. I've tried, only to be absolutely terrible, and verbally assaulted by 14 year olds to boot lol. I like games I can play at my own pace like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Etc.
never cared for 4k. 1080p will always do it for me.
@Follow the howl At usual viewing distances your eyes cannot process the extra detail of 4k. Only when viewed up close.
So apart from bragging rights and the placebo effect there's little reason to go 4k.
I play PC on 4K HD..its hard to go back 1080p.. if you haven't experienced 4K, then 1080p is fine..
As someone who has a Series S, graphics are pretty good, but unless you’re a one game kind of person, just go for the X. You’ll be out of storage immediately on the S, and to upgrade to a larger expansion drive means you’ve basically paid the same as for an X for worse graphics and no disk drive 😢
Yes we are living in that world...not everyone has high speed internet or internet at all!!!
Uh yes everyone has internet only people who can’t even afford it don’t have like it’s 2021 now and imagine not have any internet 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣and where there’s already cars that drive by them selfs
Dan Ackerman is a legend. I used to watch him back when I was on AOL 3.0 as my ISP
Best review on UA-cam. Simplicity and easy to follow guidance! Well done sir
Series S wins for me. Absolute masterpiece.
I still want to see pure gameplay on both
My PS5 bundle cost me about £400 but decided to get a used Series S and it cost me £160. Think it’s because Xbox knows the money is in Gamepass which is the reason I decided on getting one
I don't mind not having the disc drive. I prefer to not have the disc drive as I would store the games on my external storage. I would store the digital games on USB SSD and then transfer the games to the proprietary Xbox SSD to play the digital game. Depending on the price of the Xbox proprietary expansion SSD I might only buy those to store my digital games.
