👍 Just FYI, the Cold Steel Finn Bear is a copy (blade and especially the handle) of the Tapio Wirkkala Puukko knife. At one time Cold Steel made a higher end version called the “Sisu”, but that model was discontinued some time ago. Both the Wirkkala and Sisu are excellent knives, I have no experience with the Finn Bear. Unfortunately the Wirkkala and Sisu cost 15-20 times as much as the Finn Bear, if you can even find them for sale.

Krupp stainless from Germany. It's been my experience that CS *nails* the heat treat with their Krupp, I know they did with their Pocket Bushman.

My Finn bear is an older model with the nylon sheath. The sheath you made is the coolest traditional puuko sheaths I've seen ! Well done George !
Thankyou. I thought about trying to match the sheath and handle same size so it looks kinda like a rolled piece of leather when the knife is in, like no joint. Maybe I'll try it with a mora.....be safe
@@2ndchancegeorge the handle on the Finn bear is a little more aggressive than most traditional puukos. I think you did a great job ! I also have an original Finn wolf fixed blade. My Finn bear and Finn wolf have stood up well over the years ! The Finn wolf is similar to the Buck pathfinder on a side note Lynn Thompsons the founder of cold steel, his wife is Finnish.

@@2ndchancegeorge I've had the opportunity to talk with him, I have a few of the original production models. One model I have, is a push knife called the urban SKINER !!! They changed the name quickly lol

Excellent video, George! I used to sell this knife back in ‘07 or ‘08. I like the plastic sheath better than their old nylon one, but your leather sheath takes the cake! Very nice.

Lately, whenever I pick up a new knife, I check to see if you have it. So far, you always have! Decided to add this one to my collection alongside their Pendleton Lite Hunter. Agree that the blades are great but the plastic is off-putting (but super light to carry!)

Very nicely done sir! I'm a big fan of Cold Steel knives, tomahawks and spears . I've noticed since the company changed hands the quality has changed to cheaper materials on some of the basic stuff. Outstanding job on the sheath too. You've inspired me to look into it. Thanks for sharing.

I've never seen a handle that that way that style of handle is it as comfortable as the Palm swells

The finn bear is a no joke knife. Used it on many trips to the bush. Made a kydex sheath for better ways to wear it. I got a new one a few months ago and i actually like the factory sheath.
It's a very nice knife fir sure. Just not a fan of that sheath. What is the new one made of? Thanks for watching always appriciated 👍

Great video George! I have been wanting to add a Puukko style knife to my collection. The Cold Steel Finn Bear has garnered my interest, although I am drawn to the Finn Hawk a bit more I think. Hmmmmm……..maybe if I could get you to make me a sheath, the interest in the Finn Bear might just ramp up!

Aloha George! Awesome job making the leather sheath. I would not even know where to start after creating a basic template! That Finn Bear looks to be a nice knife, although to be honest, fixed blades doesn't get me excited as much a a folding knife. Having said that, I bought a Cold Steel Kyoto just because it looks cool, especially with the tanto blade, but I didn't really research the size as both the handle and blade are on the short side. My dad had a few Japanese swords and this Kyoto is meant to mimic it? At least the handle does! Take care, Thomas
Lol...I'm a fan of anything sharp and shinny....you may have noticed. I like folders as they get used more on a daily basis, but also need a good bushcraft or camp knife. And saw, and .....lol. thanks again for your support. I do appriciste it. Be safe out there.
