Now you know our pain.
wow what the fuck
Lol WTF XD
Heyyyyy nice, I'm lefty and I have a black 89' RG 550 I love that thing! At some point over the years someone put a set of green evos in it and it sounds amazing.
parallax3d 🙄🙄
If what you're saying made any sense, every righty would be playing left handed guitars.
I’ll never play that good with my guitar right side up.
Me either.
Same here...
The truth cuts like a knife :(
Nice to hear other guys having the same problem like mine😅
Same here :( WTF, and I am a lefty.
*Albert King has joined the chat*
Better than I was expecting!😁
That was amazing honestly!
As a lefty in a guitar shop you have to play upside down to try any nice guitar. Usually it’s a single out of tune black and white strat and that’s your only option.
Why don’t restring a right handed guitar the other way around?
@@luukidk4850 Because a store would never restring any guitars like that?
Never put much thought in it, cause I'm right handed. That sucks bro!
@@luukidk4850 in order to do that you would need to cut and install a new nut, and change the intonation on the bridge
m32106 never thought about that. Glad I’m right handed
Beautiful tone.
Nice, When I was a teenager way back in the 90s I had a buddy who played lefty. We both started at the same time and it was awesome to have a mirror image to play along with.. Really helped learning things from each other..
I especially love the expressions on another player's face when they let me play their guitar, not knowing that I play upside down.. So satisfying
That red strat on the wall looks gorgeous...
As a lefty, welcome to my Hell Rob. Enjoy your stay.
same lmao
Jake Guitar Guy Ha ha thanks man!
Yeah, that’s my life on a day to day basis.
@@RobChappers now that you know the pain of all lefties, whatever shall come of it?
Do all of you not know how to string a guitar upside down?
Some of my favourite blues players played upside down, Otis Rush and Albert King in particular :)
Man that is a beautiful guitar.
That’s class Chappers 😎
Played upside down since a teen, 57 now and just bought my first Lefty Strat man I wish I bought a lefty years ago but the relearning curve is fun.
Sick jem
I can see some people trying this and using techniques familiar to right-handed guitarists to create really unique-sounding runs in a solo. I might have to try something like this!
>When a lefty picks up anyone else's guitar
I've always played like this on right handed guitars since that was all that was available to me when I started, now I couldn't imagine playing the "correct" way
Right on, playing it Dan Swanö style.
That is the best color combination for a JEM in my opinion.
I have that amp and yeah I love that amp...
This is my life Rob. When I was a kid we were very poor. I begged and begged mum for a guitar. We could not afford it. Finally I was at a garage sale, and I saw this old acoustic. It was pretty beat up. I got if for $15 ( money I was saving from mowing lawns) I was left handed playing a right handed guitar. I had no idea. It had a very big hole in the back, that I fixed with duct tape. The strings were old and rusty. So at first it hurt my fingers. I had no idea how to tune it. I didn't know what standard E was. I couldn't afford lessons. I had an old VHS tape of Nirvana. I used to put it on slow motion and write down were Kurt put his fingers. I taught my self to play, Left handed and up side down. It was very hard for me. You inspire me Rob. I bow to the almighty monkey lord............ Thank you from Australia :)
I just see this now!!!
I to play guitar upside down and am on Steve T latest video now. Although that wasn't the piece I would of used (someone else put it up) it was a piece for my granddad who passed
Jimi hendrix style ! Nice
Yes.
And this is exactly how I play all guitars. I just take regular guitars and flip them over. I never knew I was doing it wrong until it was too late. I don't play lead stuff like this though. Chords, picking and strumming sounds very different when played upside down, and looks even more strange.
it looks cool flipped over anyway
The guitarist of Til Skies Fall and one of the guitarists of TraumaxQueen play like this, and I’ve seen a couple of other people play like this as their normal style too
There's a busker in my city that I see pretty regularly playing a left handed strat upside down. He's a regular Jimi Hendrix.
As an ambi, it was easy to re-coordinate my hand motions.
Doyle Bramhall II is one of the great upside down leftys
such a funny idea
Yep, I started playing and still play like this (lefthand on a righthand guitar, strings upside down)
Why would I do that ???for what reason I'm a lefty with a lrfty axe stringed up.properly lefty
This is why Doyle Bramhall II is a guitar legend.
eric gales does this
Seen a lefty do the same thing with a rt handed guitars and that's how he always played them. Only relocates the strap button to the other horn and rips on it.
Yes, because as a lefty guitar is to always had to noodle around on guitars upside down when playing on my friends’ guitars
Hay Rob firstly I never will “find” a jem like that in my room. Nice plating though.
Oh yes I have
And then Jimi Hendrix walks in and shows you how it's done
Lee Whitworth - Jimi would string his guitar lefty. Albert King and Elizebeth Cotten on the other hand. ( pun intended ). Edit: misspelled her last name.
@@justincrimmins4525 Jimi can play with upside down strings and even right handed. He just doesn't prefer to do it.
Salatiel Jyrus Tumanan That's exactly what Hendrix played though O.o He played a right-handed guitar, upside down, with it stringed backwards. That's how he learned to play guitar.
@@pacman1789 He also played with upside down strings. He had to as his father was observant on the fact Jimi was a lefty. His dad thought it to be demonic to own lefty stuff, so Jimi played left, right and left with upside down strings. Stringing it backwards came full time when he was independent.
You are far better at that than anyone has a right to be! Haha.
Dick Dale shreds in this style.
Every lefty did.
I kinda wanna try this now... where'd my Les Paul with brand new strings and my wire cutters go
I watched this thinking "Man, leftys must have an awful time" COMPLETELY forgetting that I'm a lefty myself, but learned to play on "regular" guitars
why yes Rob. yes I do. In fact, anytime I pick up a guitar I play it upside down. I guess it is what it is lol..
@Rob Chapman - New Challenge: write a solo for upside down left-handed guitar and record it into a song. I really like the way it changes your phrasing.
Bonus points if you do it, but don't tell us what song you did it in.
I can almost feel the frustration coming off of the potential people trying to learn that solo. "How the fuck did he do that?!"
😈
Dweezil Zappa says, “What’s so hard about it?”
Nearly every guitar I see in a shop is one that I have to play upside down. It's just not fair Rob can play a lefty that good. Just not fair...
I practiced with a left-handed Ibanez geo, cause I was desperate to play at a time i couldn't afford a guitar
Rob now a lefty left handed (-;
I once went in to a music shop when I was younger and asked the clerk if I could get a left handed strat and string it backwards. He basically thought I was fooling with him and made me demonstrate with a right handed guitar turned upside down. His advice was to relearn. Though challenging, I am still glad I didn't.
Welcome to my world
....I do it all the time...because I’m a lefty 😜
at least the headstock is the 'right' way up now :)
Dick Dale has been doing this for 65 years, but playing left handed on an upside down right hand guitar.
Makes me sound shite and I have my guitar the right way up!
I'm left handed, so yeah, I've done that so many times I can actually kinda play.
It's funny when playing a lefty how your feel and style changes like the little finishing touches like vibrato etc that you would normally put on a note that may be unique to your style have been stripped away and what's left is your bare ability? Idk
Eric gales approves
Any new lefty chapman guitars?
Can you play a tune on it something musical?
Elizabeth Cotten is the original upside-down, "Cotten-picking" guitar player..... She was awesome.
I'm left handed and this is the only way I know how to play a guitar lmao
That was cool!...... now do it with a 12 string.
Hey Rob, help me decide. Should I spend my hard earned imperial credits of the Canadian realm on a Ghost Fret or the ML3 Tradish semi-hollow? Legit I want you to pick for me cause I can't decide ;P
I'm not Rob, but I would personally pick the ML3
get a life
Dude I can’t pick for you, I would never tell you what to buy - you have to get which guitar that resonates the most for you, get the one that makes you the most excited to play it.
@@RobChappers Valid points...They're both just so sick; it's an impossible choice xD I guess I'll make the trip down to Cosmo Music in Toronto, try them both and buy the one I like best. Do you know when the Semi-Hollows will be arriving at most retailers?
P.S-I've been listening to In the Sunshine non-stop since it came out and it's amazing;-)
Every time I go to a guitar shop, every time I want to try out a guitar before I buy one, every time I go to a friends house who plays and pick up one of their guitars to noodle on.
It sucks.
I'm a lefty and I've played right handed guitars all the time when I didn't have mine with me. I got used to playing upside down and everybody's wondering how I manage to do it. The good and bad of being lefty
I find it weird when people who are left handed instantly assume they need left handed guitar. My friend is a lefty and started guitar playing as a righty and got used to it.
Reminds me of Dusty
Search for “kerbdog electricity”and watch the video for that song. Notice the guitarist plays left handed, but strung right. Realise that he is not just noodling, but playing chords. Listen to more Kerbdog, enjoy their music. Playing this way is just a skill learned. If you drop the low E to D, playing a simple barre becomes a lot easier. Playing scales is a lot easier than chords in many ways because a scale is just about bottom up not top down rather than contortions of fingerings
If I tried I would sound like I never touched a guitar in my life. Lol.
Thats how they play guitar's in Australia
When I play it upside down its very odd and desert-y like a QOTSA noodle.
Try a few open chords
No one else notice the evh 78 eruption in the background?
Lefty here. What I hate is the Lefty Tax on guitars we have to pay. 🤬🤬🤬
ERIC GALES INTENSIFIES!
I can’t play mine right side up!😂
my head hurts
I am left handed so playing upside down guitars is a fact of my life.
This is what jimi hendrix probably felt like
Actually, while Jimi's guitar *was* upside-down, it wasn't strung upside-down. (from his perspective)
With an 335, it would be more comfortable.
I'm left handed and play right handed
Are you kidding? That's how I started
hi
Ah yes, my favorite guitar company; Zaueql.
No way I could do that lol. Didn’t seem to bother you though
If I was any more left I'd be voting labour
Thats how jimi hendrix felt
I re strung my strat so I'll feel like jimi Hendrix....oh wait I don't have a left handed guitar
Billy shears does a pretty good job but he had all that McCartney money to motivste him
what. No chords?
I have a question to all the lefties out there. Why didn't you just learn how to play on a right handed guitar? It's totally alien to you in the beginning anyway, what's the difference? They don't make left handed pianos but y'all can still play those?
That's what I've done, or doing....I'm still Learning
As a lefty, I'm playing a "normal" right-handed guitar as well. Actually, in the beginning, for me I feel it was easier to start with a right-handed one, since I started playing on an acoustic and the most difficult part was the fingering of chords (which was easier with my dominant left hand). Then after a time, I started practicing more intricate fingerpicking patterns, which were a pain in the bum though
I physically could not coordinate my hands to play regular guitars. Once i flipped it everything clicked. If you need a reference, Miles Dmitri Baker is a lefty and ex Ring of saturn guitarist. Dominic the forest Lapointe is a tech death metal lefty bassist.
I do alot of things right handed and are proficient in most task with both hands, but I am predominantley left handed and I have tried to learn playing roght handed on both guitar and violin, but for me it just aint possible my brain is hardwired ro tell me it can't be done I'm sure of it, also my dexterity has always been better in my right hand so I want to pick the chords with it. Everyone is diffrent ofc thos is just my hassle 😅
I started playing guitar when I was 6 or 7, and despite me being left handed for everything else, my parents bought me a right handed guitar because it was cheaper. I played that thing for about 6 months and it was such a struggle, my hands just didn't feel comfortable and to just hold a pick or strum a chord took ages to do because my right hand couldn't get the motion right and the left hand just couldn't make the shapes. One day during a school music lesson, a friend of mine who had also started to learn the guitar bought his in, an actual left handed guitar. I asked him if I could play it and suddenly everything made sense. Of course it still took me a while to get chord shapes and stuff, but it just felt so much easier and natural on a left handed guitar. I think of people like Eric Gales and Mark Knopfler, naturally left handed people who play a right handed guitar (in the case of Gales, a right handed guitar upsidedown to be played left handed) and it just blows my mind that they were able to do that, as even now, 17 years later, even having a right handed guitar in my lap feels weird.
Didn't seem like that much a challenge for him
I actually play one of my guitars like this, the entire guitar is flip even the strings
What if you played a left handed guitar upside down?
*Cats become sentient and learn to fly. They become our feline overlords and we have a 1000 year peace upon the whole face of the Earth.*
All i play is upside down guitars
Can I like... have it?
