Here again because I read that TPC is breaking up 😞 I remember first hearing this song many moons ago at a Hollister in NYC, my introduction to this band. The rest, as they say, is history. End of an era 🖤
To me, it's more of a song about coming of age.Growing up, we're held back by family morals and are turned to a passive state when it comes to conflict. The family is his conscience, and rather than them literally being there, it's more of, "What would my family say/feel if i struck back?" Which is why he waits till he gets the ok from his whole family, just to finally strike back. He realizes that he's not a kid anymore, and finally accepts that he needs to stand up for himself once in a while.
30 Nov 2021 ... I heard "English is Good" on the radio, and I forgot how much I love TPC ... now I'm on a kick, starting with Tessellate ... adding this to my "makes me happy" playlist! I love that my kids are finally old enough to appreciate great bands like TPC! :-)
On today, Local coffee shop near me play this one 😄 and I'm very excited to hear. It's good that Since 2000s we have a lot of good indie/non mainstream music to explore and listen in any genre (I love Westcoast) Would love to explore more of TPC works 🙂
the mom is the school janitor, her kid goes to the school but he is embarrassed she is the janitor, so she has to hide in this fancy broom closet that has a big TV and stuff in it. its a pretty simple concept for a video.
All the boys who called their mothers on that day Were no tough bunch but they had the nerves to go and say That all your secrets were drowned With the pioneers who were flooded from this town They packed their bags only moments too late With the pounding waves crashing up against the weakened water gates Cause dire times call for dire faces So lovely dancer, call and answer Trade our places in the night We're running barefoot, you and I Dead lovers salivate Broken hearts tessellate tonight And all the kids who cut their knees on that old schoolyard fence Were holding out for posterity and self-defense We beat them down again There's no fun in playing cowboys for pretend We showed them what the backs of our hands is for The divide is clear in the coming year The rich will take the poor Cause dire times call for dire faces So lovely dancer, call and answer Trade our places in the night We're running barefoot, you and I Dead lovers salivate Broken hearts tessellate tonight
From what I can gather, the songs has a lot of messages. Compared to other song writers who are years older than anyone in Tokyo Police Club who say basically nothing in their songs, this speaks a lot about their lyrical ability, not to mention their talent for writing original alt-punk/rock. TPC are easily the best new band of the last two years or so, along with MGMT.
Dead lovers salivate is something that dead lovers can actually do and also usually means a super strong craving. Broken hearts tessellating means that they are fitting together perfectly with no spaces in between (how squares and hexagons do, but circles don't) I think the lines together mean that of two lovers, one died and is yearning for the one still living. The other, meanwhile, has moved on with life and gotten a new lover, perhaps who has also lost someone, and they are perfect together.
no it was filmed at fairfield prep in CT. all those kids go to my school, they're gonna be sophomores and juniors. why would i lie about that lol i dont even listen to this group i just wanted to see the video cuz i remember the guy came asking if anyone wanted to be in a music video
This was the first video i saw by this band and i gotta say now im hooked on the band now.I listen to them all the time. People say they sound drunk but thats INDIE so get use to it and if u dont like it dont listen
hmm, this song actually holds up pretty well 8 years later. The singer's affectations not so much, but melodically and musically this still sounds pretty good.
It wasn't a machine, really. It was his brain or whatever. The different TV screens showed what he was seeing and what he was thinking. Near the end, when the screen with the cartoons turned off, it represented him becoming more adult, probably because he stood up for himself. As for the mom part, that's pretty much what I'm thinking. And don't say you're stupid. You just didn't understand it, that's all. I'm sure you understand things many other people don't.
the video is kinda what every mother feels about when u fight, but they don't want their children to take a hit and never fight back...so the mothers hand out strength..lol! Great overall presentation!
because british music is a huge influence around the world. the music brits produce is the most influencial around the world. im not saying its a bad thing jeez
I heard it on MTV2 and I've also heard it in American Eagle as well. It doesn't matter what clothes you wear or what clothing store u shop in its weather you love what you're listening to or not grow out of the phase ur in kid
Graham Wright's mother is my music teacher, Some of the stories iv heard bout these boys xD they are love :P so funny. Great Guys. Great Music. Their doin our small town honour
tokyo police club is definitely a very close second as my favorite band, only to Death Cab For Cutie. This is an excellent video, but i also enjoy their older videos for their messiness. This album is definitely one you have to listen all the way through...even though it's only 28 minutes long.
I knew Josh Hook through hockey, we were goalies on the same team. Good to see he made something of himself. Better than the rest of us can say. Newmarket Rock On.
@jwhitmo1 Great show, loved that venue too. Would way rather see them there than at bigger venue like Terminal 5. Acoustics were great. Played everything I wanted to hear. Good times. Glad I'm not the only one in Albany that likes good music.
i believe there are bands that do not want to get popular, who do not care about money. there are mainstream bands i like too, but just because they have not changed from the first ep/cd to what they are now. and yeah you get more money and fans, but in exchange for your original fans and original music, its now influenced by bigtime record labels.
can't believe it's been twelve years since that music, and how young TPC looks like , I feel old and sad
I feel so old now, at 30 years old. Men, I was just a fresh 18 yo little fellow back then!
Been on these guys since day one cuz i love great music no matter the genre and im 45, dont feel old at all, who cares what others think?
@@GoldenDave We're no tough bunch but we've got the nerve to go and say... we're running barefoot you, and I.

I just started listening to this band about fifteen minutes ago... I like what I hear!
The quality of their music shows how talented they are but the amazing thing is that they are still in their early 20's.
really love this song. also love the acoustic version with just dave on guitar is really good, off the interface podcast on iTunes.
Looking through my search history on this account which I almost never use, wow, this sonG brings me back to the days!!
