If you wanna watch more videos with the Tamiya CC-01, check out my many previous videos with it on the channel (check out the playlists or type 'CC-01' into the search bar on my channel video list and you will find them all - or check out the selected links in the video cards). For a couple of years, this one was one of my favorite runners, both off and on camera. And I am looking forward to start running it again now!
And no, right now I have no desires to start fiddling with the steering, turn radius, gear ratio, shocks and suspension and tires. As all of you probably know, these are usually the main targets of modifications and upgrades of the basic CC-01. Many other videos by great Tamiya enthusiasts out there on youtube with tips and tricks for that. All I have is a desire to return it to basics. Still a fun little runner, and hopefully more durable.
Ohh, and btw, while the Tamiya Rock Block tires you see in the video in the beginning might be larger and employ a more aggressive thread pattern - and therefore naturally improve off road capabilities - I still find them way too hard (all though nothing compared to the stone-hard stock tires). Better options out there from other companies, in my opinion.
So no serious plans, other that I might install a driver, and I might restore the front aux lights. If I start running it again a lot this season, I might change the stock shocks (which are driving me crazy) to some softer ones, and find some softer 1.55 tires ... and maybe get an affordable lower turn motor to slow it down a bit ... but I think that might be it.
For me, the CC-01 is a beautiful piece of Tamiya art and Tamiya history. And special to me for nostalgic/personal reasons. But that's about it. It's fun to take on some light trail runs, and beautiful to behold, but it's never gonna be a very capable crawler or super-slow trail truck or anything like that ... at least as it comes stock.
Other options (even the new CC-02 cross country/light trail runner which I might get at some point in the future) are much more capable out-of-the-box ... unless you are looking for a real project. With the fenders and the double wishbone suspension in the front, it's a great base for a 'realistic' scale truck. I see a lot of people having fun trying to improve the CC-01 out there. So in my opinion the CC-01 is either a great project ... or a piece of real Tamiya Scale Truck history.
