Hi Guys, my first batch of Cuckoo Marans gave me one chick, this is her first few weeks and also her now at 9 months. She was well socialised and knows she is a chicken. Hope you are well - Elissa x
Thanks for sharing. I have Cuckoo Marans chicks coming next week, unfortunately it doesn't look like my broody hens are in the mood anymore. So we will see, I have a brooder box set up to give them their first drink and feed. And then I'll just go from there. It's been a while since I've had chicks, and never Marans so it was nice to familiarize myself to the growth rate
Love the Marans. They have such huge feet! :) I've got a couple of roosters that had Fred Flintstone feet from about day 3. Now they have matured and have legs to match. Look kinda like walking on pool cues. lol Got a dozen in the incubator that should start hatching in a few days. Hoping for some more hens come spring.
I GOT 3 CHICKS FROM A BIN MARKED 'BARRED ROCK' but they all have feathered feet and I was just told they were Cuckoo Marans! (hatchery booboo because they weren't even on the list...) I'm so excited to raise them! :) (Coralie)
Greetings from a new fan from the north! I’ve been binging your channel to catch up, and I really want to know where this little girl sleeps. Do you trust her in your chookhouse? Or is she spending her nights in solitary inside?
Welcome MiLady Avalonne, while she was small she slept inside with the electric brooder hen, to keep her safe and warm. During the days she was supervised free range, outside, for bonding time with the flock and on warmer days when she was 8 weeks old, she had an outside cage in the coop area to spend her days with the flock but where she was safe from predators. Once she was big enough and I knew she was fully accepted by the flock, she easily assimilated and started sleeping in the same coop area with the others.
I had a batch of chicks hatch from a dozen eggs that I got from someone near my way and I swear they all look like that at first I thought they were the Plymouth Rock but I'm not so sure anymore I also have a chick with a lot of Grey in it but I don't know what it is
That's hard to believe. I have coppers but the same genetics. They are strong independent birds but not aggressive in the least and sit low in the pecking order.
I have a blue Cuckoo Marans I raised from 1 day old. She's no pushover, but, certainly not cruel.....she and my East Egger hen are both in charge....lol.

G'day Elissa, nice little chick. I use to have French Marans years ago, I love their dark colour eggshells. God bless you. 🦘👍
