- On Tuesday, the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists moved the hands of the Doomsday Clock forward, largely (though not exclusively) because of the mounting dangers of the war in Ukraine. The Clock now stands at 90 seconds to midnight-the closest to global catastrophe it has ever been.

Something like this is hard for most people to take seriously because no nuclear weapon has been used in anger in their lifetime. Everyone knows about Hiroshima and Nagasaki and probably the nuclear arms race, but this is ancient history to most people.
Personally, I've rarely seen the world in such a volatile place as it is today. It's not just the wars. It's the financial vulnerability, the deep indebtedness, the radical politics (on all sides), the degradation of our culture (worldwide), and the rampant corruption.
90 seconds to midnight is not an exaggeration, in my opinion.

I’m afraid that’s right. The rest of the clock won’t be needed because it will never be that far off from midnight. As the population reached over 8 billion there will be more conflict and that leads to doomsday. The Bible says we are overdue for the 6th mass extinction. We will end up the same fate as the dinosaurs did but instead of asteroids, it’s bombs. Mars will be laughing at us and some huge asteroid will just say, “Aw, well fuck that I’ll just blow up Venus instead.”

You're thinking of it the wrong way. You don't hear about a lot of important things in school. Last time I checked, they don't even teach you basic financial literacy like how to buy a house etc.
It's been around since 1947 after the first use of nuclear weapons. In 1991 it was actually 17 minutes till midnight because the US and Russia took steps towards nuclear disarment. If it hits midnight it does not "reset". It's metaphorical not scientific. Midnight on the clock just means "imminent threat to the human species" so there's no going back at that point.

It's a little more high stakes than that. If it actually was set to midnight, it's basically a no going back type situation, the entire human species will be facing an extinction level event.

No. None of those nations are a real threat as far a nuclear war. It's 90 seconds to midnight primarily because of Russia. It's important to realize, Russia has an insane escalate to de-escalate policy, meaning they are willing to use tactical nukes first to get other nations to back off or if they just get fed up with Ukraine, hence the tactical nukes aimed at Ukraine from Belarus right now. Most other countries like the US has a strict no first use policy, even just for tactical nukes.

Howdy. I do this mass resurrection via immaculate conception thingy at faceee. People who think funny things to say with potential to hurt people, mistake fragments of truth for quips for pitches, and confronted their base beliefs but not knowing what's hurting them, thinking it may be you look like helping anyone & who look like who to give a fish, act out. Making least barbaric decisions, solving problems solution first, The people who really need help who are all who know what anyone who needs help looks like anymore, would be your 'look like collateral damage' I suspect. We don't look like all too much ..safe under the radar. I would not like to be on your end of the stick.

In Australia, marriage lasts an average of 9-12 years now & just about every child is disrupted to their upbringing at least once in their young lives now due to separation.
