  • File storage and organization plays a huge role in the stability and performance of your computer, especially when working with large media files.
    What drives are best for performance with a digital audio workstation? Should you use internal or external drives? Solid state drives or standard hard drives? How can you set up and optimize this within Studio One?
    In this tutorial, Gregor Beyerle shares his best suggestions on where to install your files and how to properly set it up within the preferences in Studio One.

    Thank you Gregor! I may not have followed everything at first, but now I know what video to come back to as I look through my Studio One preferences next time. You are always so concise and clear.

    You cannot set a user location for vst3 plugins. On load, studio 1 will happily load your non vst3 plugins from a user location but when it loads the vst3 plugins it will only load these from c:/program files/common files/vst3. This was confirmed by tech support after I raised a ticket about it. This was annoying as I was running out of space on my C: drive. I got around this by creating a windows symbolic link from the default folder location on the C: drive to a new location on another drive.

    Gregor, I'm going for a new DAW. Build by myself, I always did. Now I',m Running and old ASUS P6T de Luxe V.2 right now. And with 8 GB of Ram (was 16, but 8 of them died somehow). Still amazing what S1 6.5 Pro is capable of on this configuration. But Now I'm in for an Asus Z790, Intel I9 14900, DDR5,64 GB. 3 M2. SSD drives. One M2 for OS ( 1TB), second for recordin(2 TB), third for (ocrchestral ) libraries (4 TB) , and what I noticed, lot's of VST's are installed on the C drive. What I want, Ok, just only VST's on my main (system) drive, no problem, to keep my startup (c:) drive as clean as possible. So 1 M2 (1 TB) drive for system, second (2 TB drive ) for recording / mixing songs. Third M2 (4 TB) drive for libraries? I'm still confused about soundsets in S1. Are those libraries, or just presets, or a combination. And if so, can I keep those seperated? What I mean, keep my C as clean as possible, keep my D for recording / mixing / mastering , keep my E only for libraries just the wave files Kontakt , Precense, Sample One, Impact) ? Is this possible whle I'm going to install S1 on a new PC? or do I have just install S!, copy my standard S1 folders back to a ne folder, on another drive and manually have to set all file locations etc by my self?
    Thanks for any reply on this subject, not only Gregor, but everyone who is involved whti this subject.
    Regards,
    Mark Hofland

    Gregor, you are so awesome and thorough in explaining this important issue.
    I have an issue, up until yesterday, my studio sessions worked fine, and then today I went to the Start Page like any other day to work on a project I started for a client, then I noticed that my entire recent file tab is empty, just out of the blue. Now I have trouble locating these files and getting them to resume back on the recent file list of sessions in the recent file tab on the Start Page.
    This gave me hell all night long trying to resolve this matter, but I am unsure on how to fix this. I have located the files searching for them, but I am unsure on where to put the files to resume my workflow and to make everything work right again.
    Can you please help me fix this? It's urgent because I am currently working on a project for a paying client.

    Thanks! For all your wonderful videos, and, at the moment, especially this one! I've been wondering, because I've got close to a thousand .vst(s), spread across multiple folder locations, and although they load very quickly, I've been wondering if I could create a new folder location, with just the ones I use all the time, and just direct Studio One to that folder when I want to simplify things?

    • @studioonetutorials
      @studioonetutorials 5 місяців тому +1

      Sure, you can add (and remove, of course) additional search paths in Options -> Locations -> VST Plug-Ins. But it doesn't sound like you need that right now, as the plug-ins are only used when you load them into a song. As long as they are only in the folder, this has no effect.

    Hi, is there a way to enhance the visibility of the active channel with a brighter color compared to the others? My aim is to make it effortless to distinguish the channel that's currently playing at all times.
    While I have a deep appreciation for Studio One, I've had a longstanding gripe similar to my experience with Cubase. I wish Studio One could outline or highlight a feature for the active channel in the edit window. This could extend to its channel mix layout on the left side. Such an addition would greatly enhance the user experience. For easier distinction, the channel should be outlined in a distinctive shape, frame, or continuous brighter shade color.

    Very new to studio one. Going through almost every video I can find regards to how I worked with previous DAW and now coming possibly opver to Studio One.
    Can you save preferences and keyboard short cuts you personally made yoursdelf and back up and restore if for example a clean instalation needs to be made ro moving over to another computer..

    • @presonus
      @presonus  4 місяці тому

      Hi Louie, yes, you can save all of your preferences as a backup and restore them on any other system - Windows, Mac, or Linux. You can do this either with the "Backup & Restore" menu that's built inside of Studio One (if you have Studio One+), or by manually creating a backup of your Settings Folder. Here's how that's done: ua-cam.com/video/3Jq4ZbHsxP8/v-deo.html

    Love your work
    Great video - I have just bought a new mac Pro so will follow this advice
    Question for a video if it's not already created
    I am using Studio One (naturally) with Native Instruments DAWs and have a basic midi keyboard (Alesis Q88) which doesn't have polyphonic aftertouch and cannot invest in a midi controller which does as the Native Instruments controller 2 versus 3 is still up for more investigation for the $
    Is there a way to modify polyphonic aftertouch manually in Studio one in the recording through editing?

    • @presonus
      @presonus  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi, yes that's possible! Please check out this video to learn how to adjust & modify polyphonic aftertouch and MPE from the Note Editor in Studio One: ua-cam.com/video/fhbE_Ea5JGg/v-deo.html

    Is backup and restore only possible with the plus version and not Profesional. Other DAW's store preferences and keyboard shortcuts, templates, presets personally made on computer so I can backup it myself if need be for a clean install if needed.

    • @presonus

      Hi Louie, you do not need Studio One+ to backup all of your preferences - but it is the most convenient option. If you want to backup these files manually, here's how: ua-cam.com/video/3Jq4ZbHsxP8/v-deo.html

      Plug-in presets created in Studio One are in the User Data Folder. Other settings can be found in the settings folder. (Help -> Open Settings Folder)

      Hi, in that case you may want to create a backup of the Settings Folder. Here’s my video covering this in greater detail: ua-cam.com/video/3Jq4ZbHsxP8/v-deo.htmlsi=yvt5AMxSD8E5zJli

    Troubleshooting Question.
    I’m running S1 6.2.1 on my MacBook Pro M1 Max (Monterey). I have my VST sounds in an external SSD (Samsung T7 2TB). When I click in the browser to select sounds, S1 seems to stutter a bit and the Disc Performance light briefly jumps to the red and goes back. Also when I am playing notes in my Akai MPK mini, the notes are always off grid even with the auto quantization on. Im also using a Scarlett 212 as my interface. (Device Block Size: 128 samples, Dropout Protection: Medium, Process Precision: Single 32bit, Plugin Nap: Enabled)
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
