Excelent Job. It's really usefull the salt technique, but requires a lot of atention. The Tamiya pigments and The other ones like The brand Ammo, are Excelent, and so nice, and The effect in the model It's accurate and very real. The old models and old molds, can really emerge to life, with this products, and a little bit of «eagle eye» works, without The need of «aftermarket» products. The question is, use The common sense, and make your own parts, and tools too. I'm a blacksmith at full time, and I'm make My own tools, and it's very fun to create it, and it's good to My wallet. You can add weights in the twin booms of the P 38 right behind the propellers. The main thing is too keep your center of balance between the nose gear and the landing gear on the body. If you have limited space in the nose of the plane or the nose gear strut is too fragile for extra weight, you can add weights to the engine nacelle, behind the air intakes, inside the wings as long as you don't go beyond the fuselage landing gear. Lead fishing sinkers work just fine, just buy bigger sinkers and use gel type CA glue or 5 minute epoxy. Let it dry so the weights don't move around.

i picked up three of these kits for very little. They are still in the stash as i believed they were poor quality. You made them look good when seeing the final result. well done, will give it a try.

Squashing the sinkers with heavy pliers will allow you to pack more of 'em in a given space.
Re turbochargers: most of components involved are stainless steel. The bluish and purplish you're interpretinng as fuel leakage/stains (heaven forbid!) is actually metal showing heat discoloration. What you're interpreting as rust is actually exhaust staining with the lightest colors associated with the leanest engine settings.
