I've found with lume, the paste form doesn't smell good. But the solid stick form in the rose peony scent and the clean tangerine scent are great and what i use and swear by. Super weird because the cream paste in the same scents don't smell good/the same. Highly recommend trying the lume solid sticks!

Regular deodorants and even some of the natural ones still cause me enough issues that no I will never use a whole body. I think it's just another tactic to make a super conscious of our bodies and not smelling like flowers and soap 24/7.Rather than getting used to like normal fucking smells not saying that I want to smell your pits but smelling a little sweaty is not a bad thing. It p***** me off seeing them.Selling whole body deodorant to know every brand is.I just see it as a cash grab and the fact that it had been putting out ADS all over the d*** place. And now everybody's got one makes me so adverse to it.I will never buy it.I don't care if it's required by law at this point.
There are other countries that simply don't sell deodorant at all. Like the normal armpit guide, it doesn't exist. You have to special order that s*** Why? Because people just don't use it. They don't need it because they don't have the stinky. Sweat, or they're used to normal smells around their society and culture to where they don't buy it. I see this as another capitalistic hellscape. B******* thing to make people feel awful and cause more body. Does morphia than we even f****** know?

As a woman who has used old spice for a very long time, the scent “Oasis” is literally vanilla ice cream. But like ~fancy~ vanilla ice cream. It’s doesn’t come off as a “masculine” scent at all, it’s pretty unisex. My personal favorite scent that I’ve tried is Deep Sea, which is a musky citrus. It’s quite masculine, but I prefer that. Some of their scents come in a “Sweat Defense” formula which is 19% aluminum. I really like those because I work in a factory. I’ve also noticed that most of their scents are free of the common fragrance allergens that have to be listed in ingredients lists, which is nice.

I’ve used old spice’s Wolfthorn for years. I love how aggressive and cartoonishly masculine the name is for a deodorant/antiperspirant that smells like cupcakes. I can understand if someone doesn't want that "old person smell" and would like a full body deodorant, though I don't think it's necessary and people don't judge that smell like they do with regular body odor. For most of us showering and general good hygiene is enough, I can honestly say I've
never stood next to someone where I could smell if they had sweat "down there" and most people probably aren't getting that close. I feel like it's just yet another product exploiting womens insecurities about the way our lady parts smell, like it should smell like roses or something because they always emphasize it can be used in that specific area. I wouldn't be surprised if it was like most lip balms where the more you use it, it makes you need to continue using it or else you smell worse than before by messing up your natural microbiome or something.

I have rarely, if ever, seen full body deodorant marketed towards men. I know Old Spice was included here, but all the commercials I've seen have women spraying their crotch. I agree that it just seems like more misogyny -- at least in the marketing. I wash when I am dirty, I sweat when I'm hot, and my boyfriend likes the way I smell. If anyone else is close enough to smell my crotch sweat, they're too damn close!

    • @allycat7486
      @allycat7486 2 місяці тому

I keep seeing all these comments "Nobody is going to get close enough to smell anyone down there." Well no, hopefully not, but you don't need to. Try sitting very close to someone, like when you're waiting in a small, cramped waiting area (Dr.'s office?) & the seats are so close together your elbows are touching. After a significant amount of time they get up, usually in a hurry because their name has been called and oh, boy, you'd be surprised at the whiff you can get from their bottom half! I'm talking about women who otherwise appear clean and well-dressed. I can't be the only one aware that this happens. Or maybe I just have the nose of a Bloodhound? Lol. I don't know, but the truth is we all sweat, esp. in warm weather, or our bodies just begin to grow more bacteria as the day wears on. It IS possible for others to smell you sometimes. Even my mom made me aware of this when I was a kid & that I should be extra mindful of my hygiene.

Cassandra, yes, I have used Lume (pronounced Loo-me) for a few years. You may have received stock when the product did have an odd odor to it. They changed formulation and that odor is gone. They also now have antiperspirant. The new formulation may be why you didn’t notice it in the body wash, which is newer. If I were you, I would contact the company for clarification (maybe they can identify age by lot numbers on your items?).
I do find it lasts 3 days as they claim. I started using it because I walk my dog twice a day and was tired of always stinking and not wanting to shower twice a day. Because you don’t have to apply daily, because it’s expensive the product does not have to be repurchased as often and they have sales that are pretty good.
I’m 68 and concerned about the nonenal odor too. They have a laundry soak that got the baked in odor out of my bras. Expensive but worth it. The bottle lasts a long time.
Used to use Native but finally determined a large red area under one arm was likely from their product. It took months to clear up. Maybe from the essential oil fragrance used? Unfortunate as I wanted to support the brand and that’s what drove me to Lume.

As soon as you said you hated the smell of one I knew it was going to be lume. Like other people had said, their old formula smelled worse (although I never minded it much) but I've tried a bunch of other deodorants and found they either just straight up don't work or I hated their smell more. Half of Native deodorants just smell like febreeze to me and I despise it. I don't sweat very much, but lume is the only product that actually keeps my pits scent free all day no matter the weather or my activity level. I like the new formula coconut vanilla, but at the end of the day I'm guessing there's just going to be people who are more sensitive to the smell. I'm glad we're in an era of so many options.

I use Lume! It's my main underarm deodorant. I used antiperspirants growing up, but in recent years I started getting a reaction in my underarms so I had to switch to deodorants without aluminum. I have tried several deodorants without antiperspirants (Native, Saltair, Myro, Salt and Stone, powder deodorants) and while they did not cause the same reactions to my underarms as antiperspirants notoriously did, they either did not last as long as claimed, would pill when applied, or would cause a dandruff like effect on my underarms (possibly from those with baking soda based formulas). I liked the original Saltair refillable stick I just had a texture issue I could not get used to. I wanted to try their serum deodorant, but when Lume reformulated I had to go back. Saltair's deodorant is mainly a Salicylic Acid based formula if I recall correctly and Lume is Mandelic Acid based, so that's what makes them good at preventing odor causing bacteria.
The old Lume formula did smell bad but was supposed to dissipate after application. In my opinion, it never smelled THAT bad, just kinda like a sour acidic undertone that went away eventually. Obviously, it bothered a lot of people and I probably got a better batch of it. This new formula definitely helped get rid of that sour acidic smell, so I feel like you may have gotten a bad batch of the reformulated Lume. They also now have an antiperspirant version that you might prefer.
Overall, I get that "whole body deodorant" became this annoying trendy gimmick, but I'm so glad to have this wide variety of deodorant/antiperspirant options now. I went so long afraid I was just gonna stink with whatever "natural" deodorant was available, but getting a "you smell really nice" even after a long day of sweating feels like such a win.

Its not strong enough for me, I still use an anti perspirant at night (because we should be using them at night, they work better that way) but Lume really does refresh and neutralize odors. I do like the scent. The caveat she should have used was that we all have our own chemistry which will affect how we perceive odors.

I don’t like scents lingering on me (Im a weirdo, I don’t even like when I can smell my own perfume throughout the day) so the fact that the scent goes away quite quickly Ive been loving it. I use Vanicream antiperspirant which is the only completely fragrance free product of this type that I've been able to find. (And I apply it ONLY to my underarms!) There are some products that claim to be unscented or for sensitive skin - specifically, Secret and Dove - but they have masking fragrances in them.
And if a person has extreme body odor issues that can't be handled with regular baths or showers, and antiperspirant applied to the underarms, they need to consult a dermatologist.

I’ve been using lume since beginning of November 2023 and I just bought my second tube.. The smell is funky, I definitely recommend scented over unscented (my first tube was unscented and I went for scented on round 2). But I shower at night and put this one twice a week fresh out of the shower, and let it soak in over night and I have no issues with the texture doing it that way. Plus no stains on my clothes. Most importantly it handles my body smells very well. I also like that my armpits are smoother than they used to be due to the exfoliating acid used in the product. I haven’t consistently used it below the belt but love it for pits and boob sweat. I’ll also say I have hidradenitis suppurativa and I believe the acid helps keep my pores and sweat glands from clogging so my HS in my under arms is almost non existent. I’m a fan despite the odd smell. I only smell it for a minute and then it soaks in and it’s gone… just smell the rose scent after that first minute.

“Old people smell” starts at 40? Wow. That is hardly old. I just thought that smell was the clothing. Not everyone older has this. Some absolutely do. Could you talk more about Nonenal?
As far as Lume goes, I believe the stench is from the Mandelic Acid. It also seems to be the ingredient that stops the bacteria from growing, which cuts off or at least reduces the smell. I looked up other deodorants that use Mandelic Acid and there are many bitter complaints about the smell. If anyone wants to know, I would describe it as “putrid milk mixed with vomit.” It is awful. I need to say that I did try many other deodorants from many other companies, and this was the only one that actually worked for me. I just stunk in a different way.
I have bought Lume packages twice. The first time I only wanted unscented, but they only had it in a tube so I bought a couple of Fresh Coconut in Cream Stick and one Unscented in the tube. The fresh coconut smell was great but it dissipated within 5 seconds and then it was putrid milk vomit. The “unscented” was pure putrid milk vomit. Yum! I actually bought Lume a second time because she said she reformulated the scents. I bought only Toasted Coconut. How can you reformulate unscented? Then I didn’t really smell the putrid milk vomit, but instead I smelled like coconut candy, and from a long way away. Also not ideal. If you want to smell as if you are saturated in coconut candy, and have your clothes reek of coconut candy, then this will be great for you!
If you have nothing else to do when you are getting ready, put Lume on before you have any clothes on, then walk or sit or lie down with your arms over your head for 30 minutes. And then you can put your clothes on. If you don’t wait, the stench will get on your clothes too. I don’t have that kind of time & I bet no one else does either.
I also want to thank Lume (and now all sorts of companies jumping on the bandwagon) for telling me over and over that only women stink. I find the Lume commercials progressively more irritating. Listen, humans smell. If you are clean and your clothes are clean (the 2 big “if”s) and you feel like you stink in areas beyond your underarms, see if you have an infection or some other physical problem. That might involve more than one type of doctor. If you don’t, then consider therapy if this is ruling your life. In the animal world, smell attracts mates. It is the same for humans. Somehow we have become convinced that we should naturally smell like flowers, or nothing.

I use Native deodorant and I LOVE it! I use the sensitive (which is no aluminum or baking soda) and it works wonderfully. I also use their soap too. I love this scents.
I also really like the whole body deodorant bc I live in FL and as soon as you walk outside you start sweating. I don’t want to smell my sweat in certain areas. It’s not bad or even terrible (and no one else has even smelled it…but I do). I just don’t want to smell it, and it works. I like my little system ❤️!
    Great video

I use Hibiclens soap, but only in areas that can get sweaty/stinky. I started using it as a preventative for HS. My husband works a physical job, outside, in central Florida, so he can get really stinky. But the Hibiclens works well to prevent odor and immediately removes any odor. We use it no more than 1/week and don't use it over the whole body, just in pits, groin, under breasts, anywhere there's a fold that can sweat. The Hibiclens is cheap, we get the large bottle with a foam dispenser and the one bottle lasts a solid year.

Unlike many, I am SO GRATEFUL for Lume. It actually educated me. What Cassandra informed us about, I learned with Lume and thus, I was able to do a different approach AND not feel terrible about myself. I'm not the problem, it's bacteria! 😩 Now struggling to kill that bacteria that stubbornly has clung to my clothes on the pit area! 😡
Thanks for this, Cassandra! Now I can try other brands other than Lume. I only liked Lume's cucumber mint... The rest-- I didn't really like.

Oxyclean soaks! I soaked my tops for a couple days and washed, then repeated a couple times. That did the job. I still use Oxyclean spray or soaks on my shirts when they're heavily worn. My polyester scrub tops get a 24hr soak in the washing machine after every wear because the synthetic fibers seem to really hang onto stink. I also soak my bras before each wash - again, because of the high synthetic fiber content.

Also, I love Lumē & it works great for me, but my kid gags at the smell of the mandelic acid (I assume, since that seems to be the difference between Lumē & other deos?). However, she can handle it after 30 minutes or so.
I want another deo company to come out with something in the same area (mandelic acid), but something different to try to see if it can be even better.

Hello Cassandra. You asked about experience with Lume. I have allergy to aluminum deodorant products, developing a terrible itchy skin. I agree with other commenters, Lume odor must depend on your chemistry ; how it will smell on you. I like the lavender scent but, it only works for 12 hours for me. I have to apply in AM and before going to bed. I can not imagine it working 72 hours. I have a friend who is VERY sensitive and can only use the unscented version, which smells bad to me. BUT, when my friend wears it, I never noticed bad odor around her. She must be one of those people whose chemistry works with the product.
I also purchased because I wanted to support this OB-GYN who designed the product. She really tried to help those of us sensitive to aluminum products. She put a lot of effort and her own money to formulate. Why didn't the big companies try to create this product before? They have SO much funding money! However, since she has sold the company, I will likely try one of the products by Dove or Old Spice to see if I can find a formulation that works longer for me.
Thank you for reviewing and trying to help us all navigate the array of non aluminum based deodorant products on the market.

Hack with Lume smell: try the body wash…. MUCH BETTER! I tried the travel size of the cream version of the whole body deo and it was BAD specifically the tangerine one. I use the body wash then my regular soap and when i get out the shower i top that with my regular lotion and native deodorant and its been the equivalent to the clinical antiperspirant for me

So... basically just perfumes? I still don't get the trend lol. I have hyperactive sweat glands and oversweat with really strong odor. I get super dehydrated from how much I sweat and I somehow have the capacity to sweat through 3 layers of clothing in minutes. Even just 10 min after shower I'm soaked and reek. But at least I feel really cleansed after this massive internal shower lol. If I ever had any mysterious toxins in or near my skin, I've probably sweated them out. So, keeping my clothes clean for more than a few minutes, is kinda challenging.
But all I do is shower daily and use strong, medical antiperspirants on my armpits (I have one that is basically just aluminum and alcohol, it stings like a motherfucker but it works for a whole ass week (well, 5-6 days) so it's totally worth it) and that completely takes care of that issue. I can re-use my shirts for a couple of days, and although I still sweat, it's mostly just completely odorless water which doesn't feel dirty. I don't have to do anything extra with any other part of my body. Just keep clean. So I wonder what could possibly cause a full body stench that isn't fixable with washing and regular deodorants, unless you're old, I guess.
But then again I don't see how this is anything different from the spray deodorants that were really popular in the early 2000's. (I still have my old "spray date" deodorant I bought as a teen back in like 2005 lol. It's nostalgia.) Seems to be doing about the same thing. They too were said to be okay to use just about everywhere. And like... that's an at least 20 years old concept. Hardly a new invention.

I LOVED the lume full body deodorant and recommended it to all of my friends! I swore by that stuff... until I switched to another scent and suddenly had a severe allergic reaction to the point where my underarms were cracking and bleeding. I tried going back to the original scent that I used and I still had a reaction (although less severe). So, I stopped using it. Also, I do remember the founder of lume posting a video one time about how people were complaining about the scents and said that there is an ingredient in the deodorant that some people are really sensitive to so they tried to put out a scentless option but it didn't really work because those people were smelling the active ingredients in the product, not the added scent.

Lume (pronounced loo mee) has an almost instantly vanishing icky smell, but it really only lasts a matter of seconds when it’s exposed to air. I’ve been using it for years now and in the very beginning they ran into trouble because the icky smell was even more pungent and people were understandably convinced it had gone bad so they weren’t about to put it on their skin. I read reviews before ordering so I knew to expect that smell, but it was still jarring. But the icky smell vanished after a minute just as the reviews said it would.
I especially like Lume’s wipes because I live in the desert and occasionally work with horses. During the summer it’s 115° and dusty outside and OMG does it feel amazing to jump in the car, crank up the AC, and go at the sweaty dirt. I use water wipes made for babies on my face but everything else gets the Lume wipe.

I desperately wanted to love Native. I bought a deodorant stick and body wash from them both in the coconut scent, and it smells good and didn't irritate my skin (which is great!). But oh lord, it did not deoderize my armpits or anywhere I put it, and it made my BO smell WORSE! I normally use Secret, and the deodorant will last through hard workouts and overnight, sometimes up to 3 days if I don't do much. But in a matter of hours, Native made my stink way way more stanky than I'd ever been, and the body wash did this as well (for the groin area) and I didn't even sweat or do a workout or anything. It just was not for my personal chemistry I guess. I really wish Secret would follow suit though and come out with cardboard canisters for their deodorants!

I use a benzoyl peroxide wash, like Panoxyl. It kills the bacteria on your skin, which prevents the perspiration from developing an odor. Haven't tried it in the groin area because I'm not sure if it will be too harsh, but it works great in the armpits.

I've been using the Lume cream deodorant in the lavender scent and I really like it for odor. I use it on my underarms, under bust and crotch. For me it gets rid of the musty odor which is the real goal. I'm busty and have thick thighs so I have crevasses that don't get a lot of air or light, add that with my dad's sweat genetics it makes a breeding ground for odor causing bacteria. For me in particular the area where my thighs meet my crotch can produce a lot of odor which can make me feel self conscious. Especially since there's so much stigma around vaginal smells and what it should and shouldn't smell like. So I'm glad there's more products on the market to deal with odors in more delicate areas besides the arm pits.

I tried Lume when it first became popular and was extremely disappointed. As a woman, I unfortunately sweat almost exclusively from my groin. When I saw Lume, I was excited that maybe there was something I could use that would actually work! I found the scents (like vanilla) smells like cheap quality perfume (if you know, you know) and it didn't fight the smell of body odor. I simply smelled like sweaty locker with a hint of vanilla. I have to use Old Spice stick deodorant cause it's the only brand I have found that last more than 2 hours for me.

Personally, I’m against this weird taboo we have with the natural scent of our bodies. If you bathe regularly or after exertion or a hard day’s work, it’s really not that offensive. Everyone wants to smell like some product, but I don’t think it’s worth it to apply something so heavily that it may be disrupting your normal skin flora or being absorbed into your bloodstream. I used to use extra-strength antiperspirant as a teenager because I was so worried about it, but now I don’t use anything and I don’t smell any worse for it. Less is more.
The other thing that gets ignored is this: the only reason we have to go nuclear on our oral bacteria every day with H2O2 and other antimicrobial oral care products is because of the toxic refuse we feed ourselves that promotes the growth of pathogenic organisms on our teeth. People who don’t eat processed food tend not to experience dental disease, even if their hygiene habits aren’t stellar. It follows that if you eat garbage, you might end up smelling like garbage, too. I think this applies to BO as much as it does to halitosis.

You're definitely not the only one that had that experience with Lume just going by some of the reviews that I saw.
I was hesitant to try it for that very reason (and the cost).
A lot of deodorants irritate my skin or simply dont work and I'd tried DOZENS of brands.
I eventually bit the bullet and tried the Lume Toasted Coconut stick and I was pleasantly surprised. It worked well for me without that a$$ smell that others experienced. I've already gone through like 7 sticks of the stuff with no bad reactions.
It's definitely a hit or miss product but it does work really really well for some people.
