I've seen someone talk about how the video is pretty much a visual reference to the "pleasure being the goal" lyrics (Kylie going downtown 😂), but the video also leaves you initially wanting to understand how this whole plot resolves Pink Kylie does seem like a very contained, together character who knows what this place is, but still feels doubtful of having come here Hologram and Showgirl Kylies represent a promise, what she came here to get, hence why Black Mirror Kylie keeps pushing her towards her, insisting that this is what she could get / become if she fully gives up control Black Kylie having bits of control while she's in the motel room feels like her teasing her and taking advantage of Pink Kylie's growing curiosity (the way that the small Pink Kylie is looking at the Hologram and trying to follow her moves when she's is doing the 1st chorus choreo) I get that some people don't like Sophie's overall completion of her videos, but 'Tension', just like 'Padam Padam' giving this alienish Queen vibe before the BTS canw out, seems like a well thought out idea, that's not to obvious and allows you to come up with your interpretation, while having a very obvious back bone plot

What I understood about that video was like a control like MK ULTRA PROJECT to little and innocent kilie with a hut, the control dominatrix had a battle in a high advance smart table with avatars and little kilie won the battle using big hollogram dance kilie with red wig.

My interpitation of the music video (gathered from other people's comments and myself), was that the four Kylie's are evolved versions of her Did It Again Kylies, with refrences to other ones in her career. Cute/Main Kylie walks into the building where various display cases house all the different versions of Kylie, and she discovers Indie (now Disco) Kylie, still larger than life from her previous album's success. She references the Kylie from Your Disco Needs You (similar hair), but also the previous Kylie's iteration from her Disco album, as you'll note in the room there's a glitter ball on the floor and it looks like the aftermath of a celebration/era that's finished. Disco Kylie teachers her how to get back into being herself again, as the Disco album was released during Covid where she didn't get to tour the album, plus while Kylie has always been popular, she hasn't had this much attention/international popularity since perhaps Aphrodite, thanks to Padam's success. Sex (now Dominatrix) Kylie, who's always in control and always hard on Main Kylie references the Kylie from Doctor Who (similar hair again), plus Tension's subject about sex. Main Kylie reminisces about her previous Goldren era when she last toured, while simultaneously thinking about the beginning of her career when she was still a teenager back in the old days. She and Dominatrix Kylie become friends as she finally learns that she's always been hard on her for years because she knows that Main Kylie has always had the ability to be better in everything that she does. Dominatrix Kylie also reminds Main Kylie about Dance/Showgirl Kylie's existence, in that she still has the potential to be bigger than she is (hence why she's small), with Showgirl Kylie referencing her upcoming Las Vegas residency in America, a country she's tried hard to crack so many times and now finally this could be the biggest thing she's ever done there. When Main Kylie leaves, she glitters and shines knowing she's now ready for whatever comes her way, but also for the upcoming album's release, promotion, and beyond.
It is definitely based on Suspiria and I actually have a longer version with more stuff in it that I'll upload later as I have found other references as well. While I do think it is probably tied in a little to the 'more than a residency theme' it I so close to the films storyline and the character designs that there is no way it can't be. The hallways etc are also very 'Blade Runner' Tyrell building interiors and the dance school is full of long weird hallway that have very differing color schemes, so they too come from Suspiria. I have done one for Padam as well, but still working through it. Am a bit busy atm so probably a week or so for the Padam once which once again lifts directly from very specific storylines and visual storytelling from films, so I think that the video 'themes' for this project (they've all already been shot) are to present updated versions of old films.
It´s funny and more likely a coincidence, but few days before Tension´s release, I was eager to watch Blade Runner 2049, which I had never watched before, so it was kind of shocking when I finally got to watch the video and noticed all these references to the film. I´ve never watched the other films though, so it was hard for me to connect the whole thing. Honestly, after watching the video several times, I assumed that place in the middle of the dessert was more like a "Self-satisfaction center for women" where they are taught to enjoy themselvs by Dominatrix Kylie, who takes control of their bodies from a "Control room" that seems to evoke a vagina. I thought giang Kylie and mini Kylie were just "study models" to learn where to touch and hit the spot. Anyway, Thanks for the makes-sense-explanation.

The original is unwatchable LOL It is such a terrible film. It's Dario Argento who is an Italian director so the whole thing has been dubbed. It is very much a fan 'boy' movie, but it is garish and horrible. I highly recommend the remake though, it is excellent. Same director as Call Me By My Name and the story has been updated a lot.
