- The Little Match Girl
On a cold winter night, snowflakes fell softly from the sky, and everyone in the streets hurried home to spend a warm Christmas night with their families. On this day, there was a little girl walking in the street. She was wearing old clothes and had no shoes, walking barefoot on the icy street. Her family was very poor, and her father often yelled at her, even hitting her, which made her scared to go home. Her job was to sell matches, but all afternoon, she had not sold a single one.
Her stomach growled with hunger, and her feet were red and blue from the cold. The wind blew harshly, making her shiver uncontrollably. She looked for a place to sit and rest, and she found a corner by the wall. She curled up, trying to use the little strength she had left to fight off the cold. She took a small bundle of matches from her pocket, thinking, "Maybe if I can light just one match, I'll feel a little warmth."
She took out a match and gently struck it. The moment it lit, a bright flame appeared, illuminating her little face and giving her a brief moment of warmth. It felt as if she were sitting in front of a cozy stove, the warm fire crackling and glowing, warming her hands and making her forget the cold, if only for a moment. But the flame quickly went out, and the stove vanished. The little girl looked at the matchstick left in her hand and felt deeply disappointed.
She took out a second match. This time, the flame lit up and shone on the surrounding wall. Miraculously, she saw a table full of delicious food-golden roasted goose and steaming soup, the scent of the food filling the air. Her eyes widened in wonder, and she thought, "How wonderful it would be to have just one bite!" But once again, the flame went out, and the beautiful scene vanished, leaving only an empty space where the table, food, and goose once were.
The little girl struck a third match. This time, she saw the most beautiful Christmas tree. It was tall, adorned with sparkling lights, and colorful decorations. The candles on the tree flickered and glowed warmly. The little girl reached out to touch the lovely ornaments, but just then, she heard the sound of a bell ringing, and the flame went out. The Christmas tree disappeared, leaving behind only the cold air.
Feeling more and more discouraged, the little girl suddenly saw a shooting star streak across the sky, leaving a trail of light. She looked up at the star, and then she remembered what her grandmother had once told her: "When a star falls, someone is about to leave this world." She clutched the last match tightly, deciding to try one more time.
She lit the final match. This time, the flame illuminated everything around her, and she saw her beloved grandmother. Her grandmother smiled gently, stretching out her arms and, as always, embraced her. "Don't be afraid," her grandmother said. "Come with me, I am here to take you." The little girl's heart filled with peace, and her grandmother's embrace warmed her. She closed her eyes and smiled as she followed her grandmother into the sky.
They flew to a place where there was no cold or pain, a place filled with happiness and light. The little girl no longer had to endure the cold or hunger, and she lived happily with her grandmother there.
The next morning, people found the little girl sitting quietly in the corner, with a warm smile on her face. She had passed away in the cold of the night, but she was not alone. In her final moments, she had seen the most beautiful things and had gone to heaven with her grandmother.
Moral of the Story:
This story teaches us that even in times of hardship and pain, love and hope can bring warmth and comfort. We should always extend a helping hand to those in need, and remain kind and hopeful, because love can help us overcome the most difficult moments.
