  • What is the one accessory (traveling ink wells, cases, rest, etc.) that has made your fountain pen experience more pleasurable over the years? And what are your top five (if you have five) list you would recommend to others?
#1 is easy, it’s the bulb syringe! I’ve cleaned thousands of pens over the years and saves who knows how many hours
cases are pretty important, I’ve used many of them and it’s less about which specific case, but having something that works for you and your pens is pretty crucial
    silicone grease
loupe, not required at the beginning but crucial for me now
micromesh (again, not for everyone but I use it a lot when tuning my own nibs)

I know I'm late to this party, but I just started using a syringe - I will never fill without it! I also wear gloves whenever I'm doing ink duty. Those two tips have made this hobby so much more enjoyable for a newbie. ;)
BTW, I love the giant Lamy behind you!

Brian has a sort of relationship with a bulb syringe 😂

They are more effective at flushing pens than getting the boogers out of my kid's nose. I can understand his urge to gospel about them.

@@kmi187 haha I agree! I use bulb syringe myself ALOT. I just said it as a joke

Absolute one accessory: *Ink Miser* (clear version). I can honestly live without every other fountain pen accessory out there. But that one is a must-have. I hate the idea of wasting ink. And while there are some really good inexpensive inks out there, there are some that are _far_ from inexpensive. And let's be honest, very few ink bottle designs are ideal for getting nearly every drop of ink out of them. With an Ink Miser, you greatly reduce wasted ink.
Top 5: Toss in leather pen sleeves for certain models, leather pen case, Visconti traveling ink-well, and micro-mesh for smoothing out nibs with way too much feedback.

Yes, the Ink Miser is underrated! Both the inkwell and the intra-bottle ones are great to use every last drop. - Colin

A toomey syringe ( a 60cc syringe with an elongated tip) is a lifesaver. Much quicker than a bulb syringe.

    Syringes to refill cartridges.
I also use small bottles with a needle from a friend who vapes, to carry a small amount (10-35ml)!of my favourite ink in my pocket for refills.
The plastic “needle” of the bottles are lim enoug to fit in to the opening of all internationsl & Lamy converters/cartridges.
With a bit of experience you can refill a cartridge without ever spilling a drop of ink.
I cannot recommend vape eliquid bottles highly enough! (Just clean them out with warm water and detergent first)

You don't NEED the bulb syringe, but you'll wonder how you managed without it.

I think I'd either stick to one colour longer or take the feed out everytime. With Pilot I find I have to take the feed out anyway because ink really gets trapped under there. Still the bulb gets you 90% of the way there.

@@CaptainWumbo I prefer to fully disassemble when I can, but the bulb syringe makes me feel l like I can get to fully clean quicker.

You didn't mention ink syringes! They are to cartridge converters what the bulb syringe is to the nib and feed section of cartridge converter pens!
