Heads Up! If your CPU is not boosting beyond 5.5 GHz when more than 4 cores are active, here's why: ua-cam.com/video/A8kf7Psn_Z0/v-deo.html

Thank you!! This information was incredibly helpful. I just finished the video from start to finish. Option OC 3 and Option OC 4 definitely yields the biggest performance increase. Very advanced and especially well explained. I am looking forward to overclocking my 7900x when it arrives!

#4 has worked well for me. Great guide here thanks. I have hit all new benchmarks with #4 with a 7950x on a Crosshair Hero board vs AI Overclocking feature, tho the AI is amazing in itself. I'm over 5.7 in single core on CB23, almost 5.6 on all cores in multithreaded CB23 and average CPU speed while playing Halo. #4 is much smoother and faster in all tests I've done, not a winner by max clocks but higher average clocks. Amazing guide, Thanks

      @ryanodneal7001 Рік тому +1

Well #4 didn't last, had some weird crashes in Halo Infinite and had to roll back to the factory PBO boost on my extreme board. Still getting 5.7/8 in benchmarks and average gaming speeds on Crosshair Extreme and 7950x.

Nice video guys! You all should do an undervolt benchmark for Ryzen 7000, since I've seen that solves the insane heating issues that plague these CPUs. I'm sure you'd get some rather impressive results.

If you want lower temperatures, just set the option "Platform Thermal Throttle Limit" to the maximum temperature you find acceptable. The rest of the tuning process is the same as I've shown in the video :)

@@SkatterBencher Haha, fair enough! I used your info to overclock a 7950X. I only did PBO -10 for all cores, giving 5500 single and 5200/5100 CCD1/2 all. Anything else I try is worse, it's frustrating! Temps are ~93C delidded on air, though they slowly creep to 95C after a while. I can enable PBO "enhancement" (whatever that is! ASUS mobo) set to 90C (guess it changes tjmax) and get the same clocks. 80C is very close. It's a weird way to OC! Tons of esoteric knobs that change clocks, multipliers, voltages unexpectedly.

So I have a question where did you find the values to plug into the core curve optimizer magnitude? Which software provided the information of where to plug each individual number in?
*edit* Also do you believe that overclocking to such degree is ultimately worth while for gaming alone? Stable for 24/7 usage for operating temperatures as well. Or overkill?
I'd also be super interested in a form of 3000 gpu series OC if that had peaked your interest

I tried to use a slightly less ambitious version of this to Overclock my 7950X and it was a disaster. Mainly I just wanted to see my memory closer to capability (Kingston 6400mhz 4 x 16gb). I also have an Asus 670E Hero. Trying to get the PC to reboot at all after this took a long time. I tried to reset the bios several times using every trick I know. Finally, unplugged everything. Took out the battery and had to keep the cmos reset button down for 30 seconds. I did variations of this several times but in the end I finally got it to reset. Red CPU post light was on. LED read AO.
For me the best way to get anywhere close to the supported speed of this memory on this motherboard was just to let the board do the work. Just adjusting the memory timings, loosening them slightly and setting the speed manually each time, creeping up 200mhz at a time until it became erratic. Got to 5800mhz with stability that way which is close enough.
Though memory compatibility charts say that it should do 6000mhz on the Asus site.
Using anything to do with the new version of XMP for anything close was just not happening at all and the timings I was seeing didnt make much sense. After the bad experience with the cpu overclocking I am a bit nervous about touching it again. I even set each core 2 to 3 points less than suggested here (I figured more cores, more sensitivity but perhaps I went too high still?). It would be fine if the board would just reset CMOS reliably but it just puts me through hell every time. Not sure if this is an Asus issue. I also have a gigabyte 670 Gaming X and that is worse. Much happier with the quality features and functions of this board but overclocking on this generation seems to be much harder than it has in the past, particularly as opposed to intel. EKWB Loop 2 x 480MM 1 x420mm rads and it stay very cool so it is a shame not to use that thermal headroom but I just dont seem to be able to. Suggestions welcome if you have the same setup.

I have the 7900X3D too, but mine only boosts to 5.2 Ghz on the CCD1, and 5.0 Ghz on the CCD0.
I'd only want at least CCD1 to boost up to the advertised 5.6 Ghz. I'll try some of the recommended OC'ing solutions here but I have to be careful because I'm on air cooling (Noctua cooler with 2 fans, it's good, but I'm not sure how much of a risk any of this in the video would be for air coolers).
    But good video ty.

Why would you use a mobo that 99.9999999999999999% of the enthusiast community CAN NOT AFFORD????? And using a water block is allllllllmost as bad, but not quite as there is a community of water block users, even though they are a much smaller segment of the community. Why not use equipment that MOST viewers will also have, and can follow along and do the same things??? It would make your videos more useful and would most probably increase your following.
I really like your vids on the whole, but I find this particular point very annoying and frustrating.
One thing I am so thankful for you pointing out, is the "Mem context Restore" setting, as I'm sick of my restarts taking forever as it trains the mem over and over.

So you didn't show us how to re-enable PBO after you said we were gonna be using it. But I guess you just assumed we would know since we disabled it. I just wasn't sure if you wanted us to keep things at stock and then when we enable "Expo 2" PBO it turns on auto? Anyway, I am just enabling it myself before turning on "Expo 2" which it is not called that anymore on my board.
Another question if you would allow me:
I have an m.2 ssd in the slot by the CPU. Does that eat performance away from my GPU if it is in the top 16x pcie slot? I have a RTX 4090.
I have been playing around with BIOS settings for a week now and it seems no matter what I do (even when system stable) I am getting less performance than expected from various benchmarks. My RTX 4090 a lot of times is running at much lower wattage (which may indicate it is not being utilized properly) but not always. Sometimes it is at 100% usage and above 75% wattage utilization. I didn't expect the 7900x to be a great bottleneck but maybe it is.
You are not here to see my PC I know. But maybe you have suggestions I can look into further. All my hardware seems to be running fine visually and based on tests.
One negative example is the speedway test in 3D Mark. I am getting scores that are half the average. The test seems to disable rebar so I am not sure if that is effecting that score. But in games I play the FPS seems ok in most of them but some games do seem lower than when I was on my 13700k system. And a lot of built in benchmarks seem lower in the fps category than what I was expecting.
    Thanks for your video.
