- 4 Year Old Successfully Climbs Mount Monadnock | Father, Son and Grandson - 3 Generation Hike -
My Son and Daughter-in-law gave me a birthday gift of hiking Mt Monadnock with my son and grandson. We drove from CT to New Hampshire early on this Saturday and enjoyed a wonderful hike to the top. Nathaniel, who is 4 years old, hiked all the way to the top and back down again never going into the child carrier. We played a game of touching the next trail mark (white dots) which gave him incentive to keep going to the top.

What a joyful day watching your beautiful family hiking together. I lived in NH for ten years and not only hiked the Whites many times, but also camped not far from there. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for checking it out! Was special to hike with my son and grandson. Did all the 4,000 footers in the Whites from 1990 to 2005.
What an awesome job for a 4 year old! He did great! Teach them young, and they'll enjoy hiking for years to come. ❤ The scenery was beautiful! 😊 Stairs are tough! It's fun that he touched the white dots to keep going! What a hike! Great views! 👍 Loved hearing Amazing Grace at the top! God bless you all! 🙏🏻
Thanks! It was a very special gift from my son’s family to do this hike together! Made it even more special that Nathaniel enjoyed it and did well. PTL!

He sure can talk! Was a lot of fun hiking with them.😊
What an awesome little boy! He did great! Congratulations Nathaniel! Dad and grand dad too. That mountain almost did me in. So glad you all made it look easy 😊
❤️
He did great! Will have to show this to Luke who is also 4.
Thanks Greyhound! Maybe some incentive for Luke to give it a go. Was glad Nathaniel enjoyed it.

He did great and kept a good pace to the top! 👍
Awe...is this the same little guy who met you on the AT in CT with his dad couple years back ? 😊 ...at least I 'think' I remember a little accompanying your son when he met you on the trail on your way north.... 🤔 either way...he's adorable ! Happy Trails Good family ! Blessings ! \o/
It sure is the same little guy but much bigger now. I have a picture of him as in infant, laying on a bed watching his pop on the computer hiking the Appalachian trail. Thanks Eileen!

Congrats to Nathaniel! Welcome to the community of hikers! You have your first 52 With a View climbed! (and a hard one at that) 😀
Thanks Mike! Was glad he did so well and enjoyed it.
This reminds me when our grandson was 5 and we went hiking in Denali in Alaska. He got tired and just sat down. I had a bear bell at the time and told him that if he followed me with the bell going, the bears would leave him alone. That worked. He was up and going the rest of the way. Fun video. John (OSAT) from MI
Thanks John! Nathaniel is nervous about wild animals in the woods so is a good incentive for him as well. We had a great hike.
Nice 👍 Now I know i'm getting old when a 4 year old can out hike me. lol 👍👍
🤣 It was awesome hiking with my son and grandson.
Great hiking! Love family time around hiking; prepping, in the car, on the trail, at the restaurant on the way out. Taking my wife and the one daughter who you did not meet while on your thru hike, to the GA AT this weekend. (We ran into you near Wesser Fire Tower on your way down to the NOC.)
Did your feet fully recover from your thru hike?
Hey Matt, good to hear from you. I remember meeting you and your family and talking about the Coast Guard. It took about a year for my feet to recover and they are fine now. Was just on the AT in VA doing the VA triple crown. Was special to hike with my son and grandson.
You can't start early enough! 😁 3 generations out there together, how great is that!
And it didn't look like an easy one. But kids usually prefer the rock climbing above a boring big, easy path.
You'll be able to take him out on real backpacking trips in the future doe sure! 😊
All the best! Kaat
Thanks Kaatje! Was so special to hike with both of them. Hopefully Nathaniel will get the hiking bug and take Pop on future hikes.
What a fun video... :D
Thanks Ken! We enjoyed our hike together, especially with the little guy.
❤❤❤❤
Thanks Beeka! Was very special to do this together.
