Hate to draw comparisons, but this is so much better than that other guy that reads off of AI generated nonsense. Hope your channel blows up and you do some other content, be it video esaays, commentaries, deep dives and the like. Not that I don't like your content right now, just that inside these tier-lists and icebergs are specific topics that deserve their own videos imo. Have a wonderful day!
It's funny that you say Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft are intimidating words. You pronounced them pretty well, whereas your pronunciation of Tönnies made me chuckle a bit 💀
This Gemeinschaft versus Gesellschaft is also important in one huge area of Politics. Large Parts of the Alain de Benoist influenced european new right (and related persons like Dugin) have a slogan called "Gemeinschaft statt Gesellschaft" (Gemeinschaft instead of Gesellschaft). These groups are opposed to modernity and what you called the Iron Cage. (Most times, they use the Heideggerian Term "Gestell" instead. Gestell is a german word describing a structure which forces components of a larger machine like a car to stay at their designated place to ensure their proper functioning and placement, keep their proper distance and prevent them from damaging each other. For example, if a motor moves too much, it might lose its connection to the fuel tank or if the connection to the fuel tank is elastic, too much movement might cause the machine to be inefficient because the fuel needs to travel larger distances to reach the motor. A Gestell prevents that. Heidegger called technologies influence on society and its drive for efficiency a "Gestell".) And they are mostly traditionalists who want a kind of Confucianists or Hindu System where a priest has a certain degree of respect due to his priesthood, there are certain duties of fathers towards children and vice versa.
To add to race as a social construct. The society and culture of each “race” tends to reinforce their own differences, causing people to have children with people who look like them. This reinforces these racial divides and keeps the boundaries thriving. It’s hard to imagine an America where a person would not say “im white/black/asian” etc compared to never stating it at all. Acknowledging this classification causes the classification to exist.
Why are you describing me? I studied sociology for undergrad, anthropology for masters, and now, studying philosophy. My individual agency is limited by my intersectionality: a brown Asian middle class female with an unseen disability (ADHD and anxiety). But I dont victimize myself. Im just self-aware of what opportunities are available to me, then get by from what is available
There’s absolutely no way I was playing nhl while you talked about NHLer birthdays and brushing my teeth when describing the process as something mythical/magical. That’s so wild.
I watched through the first 15 minutes and the video looks very promising! Speaking of interactionism, Max Weber is totally unrelated, did you mean Georg Simmel? Moreover, I’d definitely mention Erving Goffman who was the most famous scholar who used this framework in empirical research rather than Cooley of Mead who were mostly thinkers.
Yeah that was really weird to see Weber mentioned along Mead. I’d say people like Weber and Simmel (to a larger extent) influenced with their more interpretation-based style the Chicago school with people like Goffman, though calling them a part of the same school of thought just feels a little wrong.
I spotted a couple of other mistakes. First, a major one, discussing protestant ethics, Max Weber is mentionned again in the context of interactionnism, but these two are from different realms. The second and the third are very minor issues. “Rich get richer and poor poorer” is mostly related to Matthiew effect (which should be in the iceberg), than to reproduction. Symbolic capital is built upon items from other capitals that are especially recognized in a specific field one’s acting. For instance, being able to write well (cultural capital) is barely recognized in the scientific field, but it’s of importance in the litterary field.
And this is why a sociology degree is useless. Just to be clear, sociology as a topic is interesting but at this point in time, all you really have to do is interact with different groups of people and people in general. Observation simple at its basic core. Btw amazing video.
I‘m very thankful for this channel. great content i love every video. pls keep up the good work! i can assure you all your hard work was or is worth it !!
Ironically, it feels like Weber's Iron Cage might be breaking down, at least at the fast food places I frequent, because the menu boards are used to show ads and promos most of the time, meaning I need to check if the item I want is still offered or 'converse' for a couple seconds before I can make a decision
I just subcribed to your channel. Not enough about language is said. Now, 2 comments I'd like to share: When you say spanish is the easiest language to learn by Americans? Meaning people from the US? Spanish isnt easy at all, bacause there is not 1 spanish. There are as many spanish(es) as countries which are supposed to speak Spanish. I'm not only talking about pronounciatiion or speed. In the Americas spanish changes for a lot of reasons. Words have different meaning in different countries and usually, the native peoples' language in each region, have a lot to do with this. Take Paraguay for example. Secondly, traditional genders are incorporated in spanish not only in verbal language, but also in non verbal expressions. Lastly, google translators and such, are way back in context, as well as interpreting the implicit relationship in content. They can do fairly ok in some technical subjects, but they are still way behind in expressing relational language. Congrats. .
Since americans chose the activist path in the field of sociological theory i can not take them seriously anymore. systems theory from germany is the way to go.
Imagine believing everyone in America has the same perspective on the world, lmfao, tell me you know NOTHING about America without saying it, oh wait, nevermind, you just did 😂😂
@@xp8969 I talk about sociology in america. And in general this discipline has been way more interesting for young activists than for convervative or right wing students.
