I was attending Sageland Elementary (Sageland Sand Devils!) when this was being built. As unsupervised kids, we would go to the construction site at night, climb to the roof and were awed by the night lights of the valley, and of everything between the gym and downtown.
While attending Bel Air Jr High, we used to sneak into the school at night by climbing on the low roof in the middle of the school, make our way to the open court, climbing down and going through the doors as they were unlocked, and we'd make our way to this gym, and also the auditorium, and we'd play on the gym equipment.
In high school, we used to sneak into the gym about an hour before games, and make our way up into the ceilings. There we would walk across the catwalk, and yell to our friends, and strangers through the vents. If we had to pee, we would do it up there, not on people, but there was a ledge up there made of concrete, and well, it became our bathroom.
One game, Mr. Lacy saw us loitering prior to the start, and somehow he figured out we went up there, and we saw him go into the little closet, and climb up the ladder to check for us... he did not see us, we scrambled further down and it was dark, but I think he smelled the pee from weeks and months earlier! We'd come back down after the game started, and sneak back in, all because we were too poor to afford the 50, or 75 cents admission. How humble we were back then.
Here is my unsolicited opinion of the video, it was great, nicely done, but a bit too long; I think if word went out for old stills, many people would have offered, I'm talking about the 70s/80s. It did invoke fond memories as was intended though (and some, well, questionable). Well done!
One last comment/question... when I was there, the gym was not named after anyone, when did that happen?
    Thank you, it is appreciated.

Hopefully YISD will show Hanks some love in the near future. All the other campuses are getting remodeled and new additions except for Hanks.
