I'm sure people have noticed empty shelves when looking for Huy Fong Foods 'Sambal Oelek' & 'Chili Garlic'. Apparently on the heals of the 2022 shortage, there's another one in 2023. Both are because the company can't find a steady supply of *RED JALAPENO PEPPERS.* _(the key ingredient)_ I can still buy them at my local market, so I'm going to try this recipe. THANKS!
@@AzlinBloor My local store didn't have any red jalapeno's today, so I bought green. They both have the same level of heat, so I'll be making some GREEN Sambal Oelek.
@@oregonpatriot1570 why not, right? Let me know how it goes! The Indonesians also have a green sambal called sambal ijo. with green tomatoes. My recipe here, if you fancy: www.linsfood.com/sambal-ijo-green-chilli-paste/
Thank you for such wonderful clarification(s)! I recently saw a few recipes that used sambal oelek and was wondering about it. I know it would take me a very long time to use a jar of it so it would probably go bad, not cost effective and a waste. Thanks for posting this video.
Hi Azlin, love this so much, sambal is a must in our daily menus. Instead of vinegar, I use tomatoes for this sambal ulek. With a dash of salt and white sugar.
What is the best neutral vinegar to use for it ? I want to make this this year with the 3 species I grow bird eye , lemon starburst, and bohemian goat 😇🤷🏼♂️ so I get 3collered sambals
This is the Indonesian version, and called cobek dan ulekan. I bought it in Indonesia years ago. Do a search only, you never know. I know you can sometimes get it here in the UK but p&p is quite silly, given the weight.
You could add a small clove of garlic to the amount here, if you like. But I'm making a basic sambal oelek to be used as an ingredient. You could change this up by adding garlic and even tomatoes.
I love that this recipe just uses 3 ingredients and is so easy to make. I made this and added it to some of the rice, and it came out so good.
I'm so pleased to hear that, Renu. Thanks for letting me know!
Not only is the recipe the best I tried but finally, someone who explains what sambal oelek really is! Thank you.
My pleasure, Olivia.
Very simple recipe . Thank you for sharing.

My pleasure. Apparently, the same for sriracha in the US? We seem to be fine here in the UK.

Well, I've got plenty of green tomatoes! LOL.
I also have a couple roasted tomatillos that might add to it.
THANKS! ....I'll let you know
The Huy Fong Sambal Oelek is back on the shelves in Australia. In the meantime, thanks to this video, I make my own sambal from my own chilis.
Great easy recipe that gets rid of all the additives in the commercial brands. Thank you!
My pleasure, Marisa.

I love the way you present this!❤
Thank you, Nick, I'm pleased to hear that.
I'm wondering if I can sub with dried chili flakes? Just for a small jar batch.

Me too Nisa, I can't live without sambal! Tomatoes are also always good, with any sambal, right?

No garlic?

Introduction is too long. Could shorten it and go straight to the dish demonstration
