one of the best adaptive versions based on Alice mixing biographical, romance and a dark psychological fairytale that captured the era yet not shying away from the touchy subtext. I didn't know anything about his personal life which some have spoken. What I saw was it walking the fine line between whether it was pure love of innocence or impure desire of a minor. The result being those beautifully poetic childlike novels that would lead us to believe that the filmmakers leaned towards the former in conclusion. Yet the actual Dodson could have been more like the latter.

Charles Dodgson, Lewis Carroll, was born in 1832. So he was in his early thirties when he came up with the adventures for Alice. Ian Holm on the other hand was around fifty-three or four in this film, more than twenty! years ahead of the man he's supposed to be. I see the direction we're clearly invited to take and refuse to take it. And how in all that's hale and hearty can a puppet maker get from Tenniel's wonderful illustrations to these repulsive horrors?! So many questions

@@HouseRavensong As someone who once was a 13 year old girl, I can tell you that it is perfectly normal for an adult to recognize the beauty of a young person of that age, and there are 100s of millions of people who do. But it is also normal for them to realize that is far too young an age for the child to be involved in a romantic relationship or a sexual one, and so it would obviously be wrong to try to involve them in one. So we don't, and we forget about it immediately. Our minds don't even go there at all.
The vast majority of those adults never even consider trying anything. It never even crosses their minds, because healthy adults have self control that kicks in immediately, with all thought of it gone from their minds. This is the normal way of handling it, and it is perfectly healthy and acceptable. What is unhealthy and unacceptable is dwelling on it, or even worse, acting on it. That is pedophilia. Simply recognizing the beauty is not.
If the story of his obsession is true, and especially the part about the naked and alluring pictures, then he definately did cross the line. But for you to say that all of the 100s of millions of people who recognize the beauty in young people are sick predators shows that you yourself have an unhealthy obsession. Victorian style prudery is at least as unhealthy as the people whom you are accusing. All extremes are harmful, and extreme prudery is just as bad as many other kinds.

UA-cam is no more reIiable than television. If fact it's much LESS reliable. So anyone who is dumb enough to believe what they see here is really a gullible fool. I suggest you start behaving like an adult. After all, even little kids are smart enough to NOT believe everything they see and hear! Time for you to wake up!

I have no doubt we all see what we want to see but what I saw were them walking the fine line between whether it was pure love of innocence or impure desire of a minor. The result being those beautifully poetic childlike novels that would lead us to believe that the filmmakers leaned towards the former in conclusion.

I bet you have a very sad face when you look in the mirror some people do you know they don't understand beauty? They They don't understand anything outside their sphere, right? Maybe a little television, a quiz program here, and there, and that's just about it sad. I've met a lot of people like that in my 80s, some years. Thank god, i'm not one of them.I'm so looking forward not backward

Attacking the author and perceived fetish of the time he existed in is rather interesting and tells more about the people of today than of the people back then.
It's no different than social justice that compels groups to remove statues of historical figures.
    How so?
You blatantly ignore the behavior you claim to hate that is currently running rampant in our current time.
Everything you own is made by people who would rather be doing other things (i can't type the word because the thought police will remove my comment) but let's just say.. these people are forced to submit. They have zero options. They receive no wages. Get it now?
And as for the hidden relationship in Alice's "adventure" ... there is an entire race that worships a mortal man who did the same thing and much worse. He wrote a book with a lot or rules to justify his life choices and it basically tells you it's perfectly fine for you to do the same. In fact it says you MUST. His lovely wife was only...
    Nine?
This is happening Today. Right now.
Where are the protests and outrage for the current injustices?
I won't hesitate to say there are none because deep down you are terrified to speak up. It's easier to tilt windmills than go after the real dragons.
It's pathetic and everyone should feel a sense of shame the cowardice and apathy.
One look at the dark side of the internet, and at how popular certain items have become, i would venture to say more people today secretly admire Carroll's audacity. If he was alive today he would receive the same protection as woody allen, roman polanski and several dozen more.
Do not pretend otherwise. Your actions are telling.
Quite frankly i am more disgusted with this current society than any other from the past. Hypocrisy and double standards galore.

Get over yourself. History as proven Carroll was a pedo. They have photographs he took of the other Sister as well as Alice in various poses. As for receiving protection. I dont think so. As Willie Shakespeare said I think the Man protested to muuch""

You know, it's like a 30s movie. Some of these people's comments I don't be a small-minded tiny people. I don't really understand the movie. Don't really understand anything. They probably think their daughters are pure and never had sex before they were married, and babies born out of wedlock should be thrown in the river. Huh, but I knew ramble on i'm very old nobody cares
