When I was a wee lad, I remember seeing coke ovens in operation. Always smoky, smelly and glowed in the evening light.
Hey Chris. I don’t comment much if at all, but I have been watching your videos for years. Thanks for the entertainment you provide to us. Thumbs up as always.
Thabks Todd I appreciate it
Same here! Thanks, Chris!
Hey Chris, I wanted to give you an update on the NIKE base in Swedesboro N.J. The property was sold and the base is going to be torn down and some garbage is going to be built on the property. Thanks for doing that video as it looks like I will never get to visit the place now.
Here also hehe
Those trees are the most fascinating part of this video. Thank you!!🌲
I swear Chris you are one of the OGs of adventure content. Always on some epic journey, I don't know how you keep finding these locations, it's almost like they are drawn to you, lol.
I worked at the coke ovens of Bethlehem md. 50 yrs ago
Thank you for showing this, so cool!
It's interesting to see trees growing that way. Thanks Chris for sharing!
Chris thanks for your adventurous soul. My grandaddy Jake worked the mines produced the coal. Just for a short time. Wasn't his thing. And my granny caught his eye. Rugged life
Great video thanks again keep them coming
Chris,
Thank you so much.
Lots of history lost to time.
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Those old coke ovens are something! It would be so cool to be able to go back in time and watch them in action.
I'm sure it was quite an operation with all 80 to 90 of them
And the heat would have been stifling!!
My father's best buddy still has an old coal oven and a pile of coke in the cellar. I think they stopped delivering coal and coke in the early nineties here. If he wants to heat his house, he just throws in a couple pieces of coal and one piece of coke (roughly the size of a bigger household soap bar). If he throws in more than one the iron oven door will start glowing white from the heat. 😅
I live in the UK, I find your channel Fascinating. a big thanks
Excellent show! Very intriguing!! Thanks so much.
Mother nature always finds a way. Thanks Chris.
Very interesting find Chris! It amazing what you learn every day! 😮 thanks!
Very cool to see. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing 😊love watching your videos
You always come up with the best stories. Never heard of Coke Evans, and had no idea come from coal. But be optimistic if you planted something in your yard has a 5050 chance of surviving! 😂😂 great video always enjoy your videos. Safe travels.❣️🙏👣🙌
Fascinating. I wonder who owns those furnaces now? Thanks for bringing this story to us.
Safe travels, Chris
They are on city water shed property
@@stiver__29 Thanks for the info
Nature shows us who is really in power, great video brought back memories of me growing up in Pennsylvania, my Granny and Grandpop had a coal stove in their kitchen, they lived in the country and the closest neighbor was Glenn White .
Very interesting! My dad worked for Koppers Coke when I was a kid and we actually heated the house with coke. It burned hotter than coal and you had to use less of it to prevent damage to your furnace. Customers had to be warned about warping the grates from the excess heat.
Awesome editing as well as the video and the history Chris.
That was very interesting. I had never heard of that before. You are always teaching us new things about history. Thank you.
Thanks, Chris! I never cease to be intrigued by your finds, and the sharing of them!
Cool stuff thanks for sharing 🤙
Thank you once again. That was so interesting.
I had no idea what coke was or how it was made. A great informative video. This was fascinating. I really enjoy your channel no matter where you take us!
Thanks!
Ovens an trees were excellent! Looked like little hobbit houses. Thanks that was great.
Very interesting relics like those stoves thanks for your hard work.
Hopefully ask permission passing on those properties
With true journalistic expertise Chris shows us a Pennsylvania we never knew existed, though I spent the first 25 years of life there. Recondite and a veritable savant! Currently I live within a few miles of Indiana's largest coke oven in East Chicago, that supplies the 5 massive steel mills of the region. Blasting massive clouds of soot skyward...
another great video, keep up the good work
Great find, Chris!!! I seriously had my eyes peeled watching for any creepy crawly critters to pop out, lol.
Luckily there was no sign of anything haha
And is used to make steel because it burns hotter
Good stuff brother. God Bless
That was so neat thank you
Good video thanks.
Very close to my stomping grounds Chris.
You are so close to where I am! Philipsburg, PA
I wrote a book about Glen White it's for sale in the Horseshoe Curve gift shop
Leetonia Ohio has coke oven ruins, a couple miles from my home
How did they ship so much coal and coke from a somewhat rural area?
Coal was used to make coke until they found out wood turned to coke was the same.
Would love to see a video on the horseshoe too!
Looks like they could make a lot of pizza there!
I suggest you add the site name to the episode title
Glassified if that’s the word.
This is old industry left behind. It’s totally different today.
Word has it the first Domino’s pizza was cooked in there!
The trees are looking like the trees in the Cambodia ruins.
Have you been to the beehive coke ovens in Ohio. They are pretty cool
Cool~ :D
Nature takes over when humans leave.
Thank you, Chris!❤
Nice Video
🌵🍂🇮🇳🌵🍂
Wow thats cool but use to be very hot….lol thanks Chris
Yes that would be a neat place to camp out.

Uploaded 7 seconds ago. I'm pretty early.
One of these days you're gonna find a body while you're out making videos. Then you'll be forced to do a video about yourself doing a video.
Love this channel
