I moved to Naples Italy in 1976 for 3 years and the Vespa and Lambretta were everywhere! Hauling loads that would get you pulled over by the cops in the USA. Extended families can all ride on one at the same time too! Then there were the 3 wheeled variants which were comonly to be overloaded 3x max capacity. The first time I saw one there was a 600 lb boar hog in the back with his balls hanging over the tailgate, welcome to Italy! Im very glad that Steve Matchett is doing something!

Such a wonderful Lambretta example is difficult to come by in India today.
This scooter was sold in India as the Vijai Super.
Vijai means victory in many Indian languages. Launched in 1971, it denoted the victory of India over Pakistan in the 1971 war which give birth to the Nation of Pakistan.
Lambretta and Vespa Clones were made by Many provinces in India to enable the mass movement of people.
Sadly most died out due to exhaust emission norms and relatively poor fuel efficiency as compared to smaller capacity 100cc 4 stroke motorbikes in India.

Enjoyed this Steve. Had no idea that the Cushmans that I saw in the back of my Popular Mechanics magazines were used in Italy during the war. Lovely scooter and lovely story.

Good video, fascinating information. Music drowning out your narration- not at all so had to give up. Thank you.

Yes, not sure what happened with that edit. It will not happen again.

I own a 1962 LI. You're not wrong about them being hard to start. They're a bugger if you flood the engine.
I've had a custom-built DC electrical system fitted to my scooter, which makes it much easier to start and made it more reliable.

Thanks for the comment. From all I’ve heard and read, I think any improvement to the quality of the ignition is a definite bonus.

Please get rid of the music - it detracts from the sense of the video. Pretty good otherwise.

Steve, could you edit out the annoying music. I couldn't finish watching this video.

Unfortunately, I cannot do that, not on this one, as I don’t have the original elements to re-edit, but I am aware of the issue and I’m hopeful it won’t happen again. I’m trying to get more involved with the editing process to better control the finished videos.
