I've not noticed any scratches from the knife, and actually in my experiences in proper print shops they use razor blades to clean their glass surfaces. I've never tried a plastic putty knife for printing, I don't see why it wouldn't work except it may be more difficult in the cleanup stage. If you try it out please let us know!
