What do you make of the story so far? No spoilers for the rest of the game!

It's so cool to watch you experiencing this work of art. After you're done, please look into some of the "making of" features - I think you'll enjoy seeing just how much work and research went into making this. Thanks for sharing your journey!

The woman playing Senua is named Melina Juergens. She was working for Ninja Theory, had never acted before, and was only supposed to be a temp stand in. She nailed it so well they kept her. She even won an award fr her performance.
Many suffer as Senua does, without hearing literal voices. It does indeed suck.
    Anyhoo, please keep going

Your knowledge on the mythology makes this playthrough very interesting!

Fun fact, Senua sees Surtr as something similar to Wicker Man, which makes sense since she conflated in her mind the image of fire giant with a giant burning statue from her own culture.

Oh man, that scene as you reach the bridge brings me to tears every. Single. Time. The acting, the dialogue, both what he's saying and the poetic way it's said, and of course the awfulness of what happened to Senua. You were spot on in your guess that she returned from the wilds only to find her village raided, everyone dead, and her Dillion a sacrifice, blood eagled. "To smother your furies and banish your fears; but now that you're home, he's so far away; they've taken his soul, to these Gods you cannot pray." Honestly every part of that speech is beautiful, but those lines hit me the most. The unfairness of it, Senua only wanted to be able to live happily with her love, to be more mentally stable for him, to escape her 'darkness'. And now the darkness has overtaken her, it's all she can see, all her world consists of, trying desperately to save Dillion. This story is so beautiful.
And I'm appreciating your perspective so much, I knew this game would be great for you to play. I'm also really glad you had a much easier time with Surt than Valraven, it was good to see you kick ass.

The music on the blood eagle, the bridge and surtr scenes are godlike!

I'm glad you're playing this and not me, gor it's a heartrending tale - freaking epic heroes always gotta go all the way in don't they? Really enjoying the mythology bits, been so long since I owned and read the Mabinogion that I barely recall anything from it - but hearing Sigurd's tale was pretty wild - Le Morte d'Arthur was appropriated, how not surprising. I just love how everyone steals everything from everybody in order to define themselves. Be sure to visit your therapist after completing this game and before starting the second.😁

2:08 Hell yeah! There you go Kim! Youve got this battle system down already.

😅 yes, unfortunately, the Surtr battle is much easier than the Valravn one. I say unfortunately because I love that battle. Surtr's design, the music and chanting, the feel of fighting this monstrous bringer of fire....
And I LOVE the episode when you open the gate to the bridge. Senuas death-gaze, that million mile stare "averted from live", is one of my desktop backgrounds. Melina Jürgens delivered the cold abbyssal stare so well it always gives me chills. And Hela is TERRIFYING, this monstrous, dark presence that feels so undefeatable to Senua...
Oh btw: You have several options when it comes to the shield-bearing opponents: you can outmanouver them (you did notice you can dodge sideways, right?), you can use your focus or you can also use the melee attack to kick open their shield and unbalance them for a moment which will break their defense.

Not worry Kim,not all vikings people were warriors, only a few...most of them were farmers, poet, wood boat makers,musicians,forgesmith,etc..
We not only playing Senua ,at the end we become her, because she is so a intense human being,so strong and fragile ,her pain and her happinnes made our heart running..
Not seing you since Ellie's journey(can only follow reaction of the game ever did unfortunately..),really enjoy like other people your adventure in Hellblade, waiting for the third part..
    Cheers from France !

If I can give you an advice. If you finished the game, watch the Making of video of it. It will be available in the game itself. You will see lot of interesting things, how they prepared themselfs to show the mental illnes aspect of the game as geniune as possible. I really loved it and it will give you so much details to the game. I really recommend it!

Excellent episode Kim. I knew you would get a handle on the combat. The clanging sounds of metal when you parry was awesome. Great analysis, as always, especially with the viking lore. I never knew about the blood eagle 😳. The story and music are also very good. I am looking forward to the next episode.

Not sure which scandinavian country you're from but you shouldn't feel ashamed about your heritage you have to remember this was a very long time ago and History as a whole is bloody and barbaric no matter what part of the world you are from all you can do is learn from our ancestors mistakes
