  • Dobinsons Spring & Suspension has been in business in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia since 1953, making leaf springs first then coil springs. Today, the factory is running stronger than ever producing more options for the 4x4 market than pretty much any other brand. Mike here from Exit Offroad just traveled to Rocky to check out the factory and do some training on products and their development. This rough walk through was done in between shifts where possible, so we aren't able to show every single step as not everything was operating at the same time.
See how Dobinsons Coil Springs are made, Dobinsons Leaf spring, see how Dobinsons coil springs are powder coated, heat treated, the scragging process and what does it mean if coils are scragged. See how the coils are ground flat at the top and tempered and heat treated.
Shock R&D is done on site, but manufacturing of them is done elsewhere, so that can't be shown here. We'll be posting another video soon on how Dobinsons IMS and Dobinsons MRA struts and shocks are put together, what goes into them, and some tips and tricks for rebuilding them.
    Thanks for watching!!

Awesome to see where the springs for my LC105 were made. Thanks again Mike for all your help in getting me the right springs and IMS shocks! Loving the setup since I installed them last summer. Been overlanding in Kazakhstan and they have performed excellent!

So it seems like some of the trademark colors are different for the USA market…..why is that?
For example some of the threaded locking nuts (IMS) are black for the USA when Australia (and everyone else? 🤷🏽‍♂️) gets purple?

The manager that runs USA distribution chose the black rings. But you can request purple before the ship out at no extra cost.
And Americans as it turns out are extremely picky about colors. Which is why many coils also had to be offered in different colors, which is not done in Australia.

@@ExitOffroad interesting……I’m not that picky, I just wanted to represent the Dobinsons colors.

I wish those springs come in black. That teal colour is so cringe.

In the USA, the majority of the coils are sold in teal, black and red
