  • HOW TO MOUNT YOUR WELDER TO YOUR WELDING BED (EASY TO REMOVE / EASY TO CHANGE THE OIL)
    In this video, Austin Ross answers common questions on welder mounting. As a pipeline welder his pipeline welding rig travels the country and has to be ready for all types of terrain. This means he had to learn the best practices on bolting welder to truck bed. His original setup on his latest welding bed build wasn’t ideal so he made a welding rig truck mod that makes his truck mounted welding machines more efficient. If you are wondering how to setup a welding rig, about mounting welder to service body, how to mount a welder in a pickup or how to mount welder in truck bed this video is for you. In the video you can see this mobile welding truck setup up close and personal and learn how this working rig truck carries the pipeline welding machine.

    I’m running a Miller 300 pro and I really like it! 15 yrs ago when I first broke out rig welding I had a Lincoln Classic 300D and that’s prolly been my favorite machine so far, but I’m really starting to like this 300 pro! Your enthusiasm to help folks succeed is obvious, I appreciate it! God Bless

    I haven't gotten the chance to try a lot of different machines yet but enjoyed a '78 black face a while ago which was nice but then absolutely LOVED a '53 Hobart 222 that I got to test about a month ago (basically identical to the SA200 junior). Really looking forward to getting my '55 short hood running.

    Great video. Love the comment at the end. That comes into play a lot when welding I feel, to have someone ask “how do you do this or do that” sure I can show you or you can watch but you have to just get in their and do it... like you mentioned, take a little trick here or piece of advice their. Everyone is different and has their own technique!

    We use 3 point hitch pins with the spring pins. You need ears attached to the welder frame with the correct hole placement that drop over the pins. We also put a rubber pad or a drilled out hockey puck over the pin that the welder rides on. This dampens some of the vibrations of the welder running. In place of the 3 point hitch snap pins, a pad lock can be used for one or more of the pins.
    3 point hitch pins come in various sizes and lengths with threaded ends and shoulders. It's a fast and secure way to quickly secure the welder to the rig.

  • @wgm6

    Thank you for this video sir. Answering your question ima go with a big blue 300. And giving my rig setup I will be running a tub rig. And put a 1/4 plate on the bed of the truck. Lay my welder across with the front of the machine facing the driver side. And I will be welding some angle iron around the base of the welder to keep it from moving around.

    • @arosswelding
      @arosswelding  5 років тому +1

      That’s a good idea for a tub rig. Then you can weld to the plate everywhere else you need to.

    • @gilbertrodriguez9471
      @gilbertrodriguez9471 4 роки тому +1

      What about bolting the 1/4" plate down to the bed? Some do, some dont. You think its important?

    • @martinamaya9741
      @martinamaya9741 4 роки тому +1

      Gilbert Rodriguez I actually did bolt down the plate instead of my original idea and just put angle iron to hold my welder in place have been going through bumps and pit holes for months and seems steady enough

  • @k9cop998
    @k9cop998 5 років тому +8

    Drill at tap the holes so you don't have any brackets sticking up when the welder isn't on the bed.
    Best welder by far is the Miller PipePro for pipeline welding. For the past 30 years Lincoln was the best, but now Millers PipePro is the best. I've owned them all, I'll take the Miller.

    3 point hitch pins standing vertical out of the deck. They pass through an angle bracket off of the welder frame. You can replace one of the snap ring pins with a pad lock. You can also put a rubber washer under the machine where it sits over the pins.

    I’ve welded with all them at least once but for downhill the sa-200 with the arc control is by far the best downhill machine ever made, the miller pipe pro is great for all around welding tig mig flux core they do everything well the advantage 300 can be a disadvantage if you trying to stick weld with that crappy piece of junk but it does everything else really great, pretty much all the inverters no matter what brand it is are good if they have a hot start but the ones without it suck when you try to stick weld pipe. Any Lincoln with copper wounding is gonna be your best welding machine for downhill the older the better but not the newer ones that are air cooled they over heat especially if you in south Texas in the summer time!!!!!!! If you got the money to spend the new High Country Lincoln is a go getter but who wants to spend 20,000 when a 300 Diesel will get the job done without all the glitz and glamour !!!!!!!!

    I have a skid unit that I have my Lincoln 200 pinned in 4 pockets on the skid . The skid is also pinned in 4 pockets in my truck box . These pockets are to the out side front and back of the wheel wells so one can put in full sheets of plywood with out the pockets being in the way. The whole unit can be picked out of the box by the welders lifting Eye with my 2 ton chain hoist and gantry inside of 10 minutes by myself . The skid held everything I needed to do my job mostly big inch tie ins 2 oxygen bottles and 2 acetylene. Have never run out of cutting gasses . Over time you are bound to meet someone who knows someone on a pipeline. if somebody makes a bad weld it could be arc blow or the cable length affecting things or a damp rod, if they made a bad bead then they must have been making them earlier. if you can make a good bead with the same machine then the other might be sloppy, who knows
