ALERT: it's under 300USD to stay in Cambodia for a year! Looks more flexible and less hassle! If Thailand doesn't want me here, I'll take my Thai wife and dog to Siem Reap!!! I move 120k baht every month into The Kingdom, but it's never enough...
I have two ways of analyzing a Thai governance issue. One: think structurally and strategically. Two: think ad hoc and on a short term basis. On this one I’m going with door number two. The simplest answer to this new Thai Privilege offering is they see they priced themselves out of the market with the huge increases for their visas in 2023 and need to shore up the bottom line with a quick fix. I’m not seeing anything else here.
They really need to look at better marriage visa If it was the other way around in my country she gets permanent residency working rights no reporting blah blah
Can you discuss why the elite visa "sidesteps" tax issues for long stay tourists? I wasn't under the impression they do anything related to taxes. My understanding is you still become a tax resident after 180 days. Is this not true?
All of these new visas and tax changes at the same time. Its obvious what they are trying to do. Cheaper Elite is good but im not that keen to add another tax return to my list of requirements for a country i "kinda" like.
Thank you for your videos Ben, they are much appreciated 👍. As I received the mentioned banking request due to being a foreigner, I am looking forward to your video where you said it will be discussed.🙏
You do such a great job on this channel. I will be returning to Thailand in Jan/Feb, once I have my travel plans I will reach out to your office to schedule an appointment with one of your staff. As a Long time subscriber, I appreciate all the info and the time you spend to better inform people. Thank You
I have one of the new DTV visas. I applied 3 days after the web site went live in early July , it was issued about a month later and I entered Thailand in late October. The immigration officer looked surprised when I handed her the visa printout, like she hadn't seen one, or many, before, but she stamped it properly with 6 months validity until April 2025. I plan to spend high seasons in Thailand and elsewhere for the rest of the time. This visa is perfect for my needs and I'm happy I've got a plan for the next 5 years. I was formerly on an O-A visa here for 10 years, but now have another home where I split my time, so DTV came at the perfect time for me. I've subscribed and look forward to more detail as things progress.
Thanks Ben. I really enjoy and value your contribution to a lower stress xpat experience in Thailand. Your advice has already helped my life experience here in Thailand more than once and as has been said...for free.
"We can help with Thai Privilege visa". Why would anybody seek such a help and pay additional money, when you can directly apply with Thai Privilege? Their service is excellent, free, and very simple....plus Privilege visa will not allow to avoid tax implications (if they arise). Thai Privilege Sent information clearly stating that anybody staying over 180 in a year) is a tax resident in the country.
I've been watching you for a while now and so far, most of your summaries on how Thailand makes a move then back pedals then reveres when the tourist dollar stops showing up, its seem to be never ending so! one more time we all will have to wait and see what happens since nothing seems to stick for very long, before they throw new mud on the walls.
For those wirh no strong connection to Thailand, such as Thai partner/wife/ children, but a desire to retire in SE Asia, Cambodia is becoming more of an attractive option every day. If the Cambodian government really got their act together and went into marketing overdrive, Thailand could be in serious trouble as far as income generation from its retired expat community. I doubt very much that anyone in the Thai government is consulting with expat forums or organisations to do an impact assessment on their policies.
A mate here in Thailand yesterday received a message from Kasikorn bank, stating dear customer? Plus no account number? 2red flags.it was a long message I do have screenshot of it. All to do with taxation, crs? Asked to fill in forms, irs mentioned?.as part of Thailands participation in the multilateral competent authority agreement??.all to do with reporting his banking. But he advises he closed his account with kasikorn a long time ago.a definite scam I told him.
Hi Ben. Thanks for for the time and effort and information you put into your videos. I got an email from K bank. They want me to fill out a couple of forms FATC/CRS. In the forms. Should, I ignore it?
I have a lot of stock funds at my bank and when I sell them, the tax is deducted by the bank itself, it does not appear on my tax documents, how do I prove in Thailand that I have already paid tax on the sold stock funds?
Very interesting analysis thank you. I know that this video is more about the new privilege visa but one of the things I've been wondering re. the new ETA being rolled out next year is whether it might also be an unexpected, albeit unintended way to monitor "illegal" short term AirBnB rentals. Since one of the requirements will be for all visa exempt visitors to provide proof of accommodation, those making AirBnB bookings for less than 30 day-periods might run into some issues there (?). I've never booked AirBnB but I were to do so I would always do so for more than 30 day-periods as I think it's always a good idea to stay on the "right side" of the law (that's why I'm following your channel) but I'm also wondering if AirBnB bookings will be an acceptable proof of accommodation at all (?). Any feedback on that would be appreciated.
They are obviously going to crack down Facebook is littered with people bragging about a 2 week cooking course and getting a 5 year visa, while us idiots coughed up 6-900k for an elite that is not a great deal at all, with DTV it would cost me less now a days to open a business in dubai in 4 days, get a bank and residency, get a DTV and when Thailand comes knocking for income ill just bounce and pay Dunai with my 0-9% tax
I am coming to Thailand in 30 days, I am concerned about ETA, do I need to worry or will it wait until later in the year. pretty please let me know. I am scared. thank you very much for you help,
Same ....I arrive 19th January next year......my understanding is its not required as yet....but things change quickly in Thailand. I'm keeping a close eye on it....I suggest you do the same..
There is no ETA yet in effect. It will definitely not happen this year, the last I read (I am and read Thai) was a timeframe around or before June next year. Not to worry for any of you.
I am also coming to Thailand on January 13 and will stay there for 26 days and would like to know for sure whether I can arrive as before or whether I have to register online (ETA)

Your comment makes no sense. There is an entire sub-economy dependent on those 'Cheap Charlie's'. The best way to move them out is to gradually make Thailand more desirable to those with deeper pockets, displacing those with lesser funds. Right now, that is clearly not the case. If it was, they'd be here already, wouldn't they?
@rickciardella that's true but a monetary reset would mean Thailand doesn't need Western currency. Watch Bitcoin show you what I mean. Without great wealth, you'll not be living in Thailand as a farang. Someone has their hand on the scales in your favour, and it's being lifted.

Sounds like you'd be much better in Cambodia - bye, bye
If I didn't have kids here I would have moved there already. Thailand just keeps making life harder for us
lol. Couldn’t pay me to stay in Cambodia. I’m not a brokie though.
I likewise keep my eye on neighbouring Nations and their systems. But they are not as advanced as Thailand yet.
I'm far from being broke but much prefer the Cambodian lifestyle. @@Dime333

You are right. Thai Elite staff confirms that everybody staying over 180 days in a year is a tax resident. The video is misleading
Your understanding is correct. I was also wondering what he was talking about when he said that. Maybe he was confused with the LTR visa.
Just got DTV. Took 12-13 business days from LA.
Need 5 years to make it 50 so I can retirement visa.

How was the process, sounds like it moved pretty quick

I am looking forward to your video on the Thai banks' FATCA/CRS forms and the Thai revenue Tax Identification Number (TIN).

sent out today by Kasikorn bank.
How about giving falang parents of Thai children life time visas instead of making life difficult for us

Exactly what I said when they came up with the price increase, exactly expected. And again thank you for staying on top of things.

Not having to do the 90 day reporting and the yearly Visa $1000 shakedown makes Cambo seem more and more enticing.

Get a spouse visa and update it once a year.

Thanks for your service Ben, another great video of good to the point information.

I'm confused. Will I need a ETA when I have a re-entry permit. To me it doesn't make sense
Does it stand with the Bronze visa, as it presently does with the previous named Elite visa, no tax?

it should appear on your year end federal / state tax forms

If they included the full foreign income tax exemption with the Bronze package, it would be a good deal.
Without the tax exemption is is not.
