  • This is a onride POV from the Skyride at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL. It's a classic amusement/theme park ride that the entire family can enjoy. Riders can almost see the entire park while resting their feet. This ride was manufactured by the Von Roll company in Berne, Switzerland and opened here in 1974. This video will take you on a ride from the drive station (where the engine that pulls the mighty cable) in the Crossroads area of the park where the Crown Colony House Restaraunt and the new Cheetah Hunt roller coaster is, through the midcourse check station which used to be the station for the Treetops restaraunt( which didn't last very long) to the tension station in Stanleyville and back to the Crossroads station. The tension station is where giant counterweights are used to keep a certain amount of tension on the cable. You're trip will include a close encounter with Cheetah Hunt as the coaster goes under and OVER the Skyride. Yes, that's right, it goes over the Skyride.

    I rode that skyride in 2009. Cheetah Hunt going over the skyride is reminiscent of the peoplemover going over the Disneyland Skyway.

    @woodencoasterfan Good Luck!! You got to time it perfectly to get the best shot. You might have to ride it several times just to get the perfect one.

    @vonrollskyway1 Thanks. It's a shure bet that the Skyride will be around for a long time now that Cheetah Hunt is here.

    @Millenniumforce I got the park just before it opened and fast walked (with everyone else) to Cheetah Hunt. You're right about the timing on the Skyride for the shots of Cheetah Hunt. I'm working on Cheetah Hunt now and I'm using one of the shots of the coaster going over the Skyride.

    02:53 looks so cool! haha The hangtime on that roll is pretty sweet. I used to be kind-of "CH is cool", but now that I see more and more video footage, it really makes me wanna ride it right now instead of in the fall! :)

    @123dsulli No, The Cheetah Hunt Had The Long Line About 2 Hours. The Skyride Line Was About 30 minutes

    youre lucky you got to see the coaster at its best spots; the inversion, the tower/drop, and the over-the-skyride hill

    @123dsulli No, that's for Cheetah Hunt. The wait for the Skyride is usually about 30min.

    @tjoceasde Thanks. That's how I was planning to do my shots so viewers can go back and watch a video I shot of the Skyride about a year ago roughly from the same spots so they could see how much the area really has changed.

    @Hieagandaus If you're asking about the Skyride wait, then yes it was about 30 min.

  • @woodencoasterfan
    @woodencoasterfan  13 років тому

    @6flgslover Were you reffering to the mid course check station which is at the 5:11 and 10:00 marks on the video? If so, that actually used 2 be a station for the Tree Tops restaraunt which wasn't around long. Now the gondolas just pass through the station without getting on or off. The Skyride is a one way ride that takes you from the Crossroads to Stanleyville or vice versa from Stanleyville to Crossroads so you'd have to get off at the other end and wait in line to go back 2 where you started

    The only thing at the 1:43 mark as the Hippopotomus enclosure and that's at the right side of the screen and not under the coaster at all. Were you thinking about a different time frame in the video?

  • @123dsulli

    was the gigantic line in the begining for the skyride?
    Because when i was little i remember getting on this ride and only waiting like 5 minutes!

  • @woodencoasterfan
    @woodencoasterfan  13 років тому

    @SaraeStrange It really doesn't get all that long due to it's high capacity.

  • @woodencoasterfan
    @woodencoasterfan  13 років тому

    @ricky0200 That does happen from time to time. Usually it's due to high winds, however the most recent and lengthy shutdown was due to the construction of the new Cheetah Hunt roller coaster.

    Very nice! Too bad that this gondola lift has no down holder supports.... :(

  • @woodencoasterfan
    @woodencoasterfan  12 років тому

    @RegretfulGreedler It won't. The gondola is actually secured to the cable by a device called a grip which clamps around the cable when the gondola makes contact with it as you leave the station.

    I need a personal opinion. Im just turned 12 early this month, and I was thinking that I want to go here for my birthday next year. I love fast, trill ride rollercosters. Does anyone think this is a good place to go next year?

    Thanks a lot.
    I choose the 20th as my first day as only Flume will be closed. As I looked at their Website first it sad that Phoenix will be under Maintenance from Jan, 21 but now they changed that to the 26.
    Actually their Page gives 2 different Infos: At park-info/park-hours they say 21. and at park-info/attractionsupdates/ they say 26. ...
    Sky Ride will just close in September/Oktober.
    As I'm German I know Scorpion from Fairs very well.
    My Question with the Coasters you may misunderstood, as I mentioned which seats I will ride, but whatever your Tip about Kumba with middle of the Row is kind of interesting, as I never tried EVERY Seat at any Coaster. Even the people of TPR call me Crazy as I like to try 6 - 8 different ways to ride a coaster (I forget in my first posting closed eyes and sitting in first part and looking backwards to watch peoples reactions...
    You forgot my question about Construction left of Skyride

  • @woodencoasterfan
    @woodencoasterfan  13 років тому

    @6flgslover It's the same ride, you just have to get off at the other end and wait in another line if you want to come back.

  • @SaraeStrange
    @SaraeStrange 13 років тому

    The line for the sky ride wasn't that long.

    Hoply you still answer Questions..
    On the Skyride you can see too the left at the Beginning a lot Construction work. Do you know for what it was?
    As a Subcriber to TPR I noticed that Gwazi will unfortuanetly close, so I booked fast flights and so on.
    How will be the Lines Jannuary 20-22 and 31!
    Will Quick Queue make sence?
    What you think how many days I will need if I ride all Coasters front, back, middle, looking right, looking left, looking backwards an all other rides acept the kiddy rides at least once and seeing all shows at least once? a) with QQ b without QQ
    Note: I be full day in the Park only 21 as on the other days I depend on the times of the shuttle from Orlando unlikly, but Hotels are sheaper in Orlando

      Wow, so many questions so I'll answer what I can. January-March is considered the off season so lines will be short but so will be the operating day. I've never used quick que and I wouldn't recommend buying it as crowds should be lite when you get there. There will be ride closures for seasonal maintenance so expect rides like the Skyride and Rhino Rally to be closed although I think Rhino Rally is closed for a expansion anyway. As for the shows, there are two that I haven't seen and they are Madagascar: Operation Vacation, and the new pets show that was moved into the old 4-D theater but I have seen Iceploration which is pretty good. More in the next post.

      Continued from previous post. For the coasters. Gwazi Lion (the only side open) sit in the front as the coaster has reverted to its rough days. That's what happens when parks cut corners and don't maintain wooden roller coasters properly. The experience gets noticeably rougher the farther back you sit. Montu, the front row is the best and the back row is a little more intense, but with all B&M Inverts, you have something blocking your view in front of you. Scorpion, the best car is the middle car as you get a nice bit of zero-g at the top of the loop. The Scorpion is a Schwarzkopf coaster and is one of the few looping coasters that has a individual lap bar only. The Sand Serpent is your standard Wild Mouse from Mack so brace yourself. Kumba, the front is good but the back is the best and try and sit in the middle of the row as you get some nice floaty air time on the zero-g roll. Unfortunately I can't remember if it's middle left or middle right seat that gets the best air time. The back row is intense though but not too rough. Last but not least is Cheetah Hunt. It's a really good Intamin coaster with nice pops of airtime, especially in the back coming off the tower and the airtime hill after the third launch. This is also the first coaster to leap over the top of the Skyride which is pretty nice. Especially if you're on the Skyride and you're passing under the coaster as it's going over the top. Finally Falcon's Fury, wow is that an incredible drop ride. It has something that Zoomanjero and Lex Luthor's Drop of Doom don't have, and that's a drop at 90° face down. You should be able to do everything in this park while taking your time in about a full day to a full day and a half at Busch Gardens Tampa. I hope this helps you and I really hope you enjoy your stay.

    • @woodencoasterfan
      @woodencoasterfan  9 років тому +1

      The backseat is a little more intense but not too rough and unfortunately I can't remember if it is middle left or middle right that gets the best of your time. The last coaster is Cheetah Hunt and it is a really good family coaster from Intamin. The best seat on this coaster is the backseat as you get a lot of airtime coming off the tower element and the airtime hill right after the third launch and it is also super smooth as is customary with most Intamin roller coasters. And last but not least is Falcons Fury, my god what an intense drop tower. This ride has something that Zoomanjero and Lex Luther's Drop of Doom do not have and that is you drop facing the ground at 90° facedown from 335 feet in the air. You should be able to do Busch Gardens Tampa in about a day to a day and a half depending on when the park closes. I hope this helps you with your trip to Busch Gardens and I hope you enjoy your time at the park.
