People use the term underrated very loosely Damon Waynans is well-known and well respected by everyone but I will say this part Damon Wayans Stand Up is very underrated he is funny as hell on the mic.
NAH THAT WAS COMEDY GENIUS. The awkwardness is just a testament to how on point it is. Dave Chapelle has PLENTY moments like this before the punchline haha
oh man...a number of close calls there, Damon... close calls to awkwardness, i mean. gotta remember back then SNL was still pretty much more conservative and "white" comedy territory. THAT's why i enjoyed Wayans' own In Living Color waaaayyyy more.
idk about conservative back in the day. They are a lot more PC today than they were even in the 90s. Remember that Carlin and Pryor hosted SNL in its first season and that Kinison would be a guest host in a couple of episodes in the mid-80s. I just think w/ this particular set that Damon killed with the first portion about Black on-field reporters but his next bit or 2 wasn't as good.
Eddy Murphy was very similar in the aspect of talking about things that a predominately white audience would usually be uncomfortable and awkward but because he was more “conventionally handsome” he got away with so much more than Wayans ever could. Production wasn’t confident enough that he could bring in the black viewers that would actually relate and find his skits funny and continue watching the show. Which is exactly why he thrived on In Living Color because it was predominately black cast so he knew that audience would appreciate the skits and realness he brought.
The WAYANS need their own television network. They put the time and effort and have contributed laughs and greatness throughout all kids of America for DECADES Ps. The Alabama white boy said this!!
The first time I saw his stand up was on the Robert Townsend Show...I thought he was hilarious...i remember like it was yesterday, get my hair braided and just laughing at the tv about him bagging on some dude named Seymour 😂😂😂😂
i love Damon Wayans and most of his projects - however this is not good lol i never enjoyed his standup - same with Marlon- like theyre not 'stand up's' ... but they can say funny stuff on a mic sometimes whille standing up - i think theyre strengths are creating characters and stories
Not just black people were used as test subjects. Also women, Jews, Indians, Irish, & the list goes on. Loved the jokes, but come on now, stop acting like only black people were treated badly. Black people owned & sold slaves too. Lots of people of many different races have been slaves. Enough with the race baiting. You don't need the WHOLE thing to be about race. Because we are ALL human, so get over it.
@@whtboychris not really. He is joking but also being serious. I'm a fan of his and have seen him talk this way a lot, with him joking and being serious. I was just saying my personal feelings on it though.
You can't seriously compare indentured servitude to the mass torture and mistreatment of Black Anerican slaves! This is why history needs to be told truthfully and not erased because you are uninformed. Even slaves in other countries didn't go through what Black people did in America. It WAS NOT the same. And I'm sick of the children of oppressors hollering race baiting when there are whole towns that were buried under lakes and even Central Park. Go find out how the medical field of gynecology was based on the mass torture and slaughter of female slaves. Stop complaining about people telling you about their mistreatment. The information is out there. Go find the truth, not what's comfortable for you to take in.
You say “enough with..” to a 25 year old set?! FOH you goofy gabby. Completely ignorant of you to think he’s uneducated about the plight of others, as well as to think he should speak to experiences that aren’t his own. He’s a BLACK man with, what might be unheard of in todays age but, BLACK parents. If he were any of the other races, religions, or cultures that led you to make this ignorant remark - you can be sure he would have been just as funny speaking from that perspective.
Here after Marlon's club shay shay interview 😂
Yup following watching in living color super bowl 😂
Absolutely. 😂
Damon Wayans is legendary and *YES* he's underrated.
This comment deserves more attention
There was nothing funny about this
True. I always thought that Damon was way funnier than Martin but Martin was a lot more famous in the 90s. Damon had a decent movie career though.
EXTREMELY UNDERRATED!
Underrated by who. We all know that Kings of comedy shit was a joke. (Pun) Okay I see your point. 😂
People use the term underrated very loosely Damon Waynans is well-known and well respected by everyone but I will say this part Damon Wayans Stand Up is very underrated he is funny as hell on the mic.
“Leon Jackson” 😂😂 Ever since this aired, that’s been the name our family uses for every weather field reporter lol.
❤
The best joke in his monologue he was fired from SNL then he did his own comedy. Years later they were kissing his ass to host.
And you just know they were heated when In Living Color got that Super Bowl Halftime special and it was a fricking smash hit !!!
NAH THAT WAS COMEDY GENIUS. The awkwardness is just a testament to how on point it is. Dave Chapelle has PLENTY moments like this before the punchline haha
Hands down the funniest Wayans and at one point was the best stand up go back and watch his HBO specials
Judging my this monologue, I'd say that he may have still been upset with them.
I agree
WHAT!!! how did I miss this? Damon Wayans was throwing social commentary hay makers back when it could get you ruined.
And this was his first appearance after being fired in 1986.
Edit: I'm wrong actually. He was back for the season finale to do standup.
The 🌪️ tornado was hilarious physical comedy
That NASA joke was top tier 😂
After 9 years, Damon Wayans returns to SNL.
That is crazy 😢
In my opinion, Damon is the most talented of the Wayans siblings.
Nah Marlon is. Damon is the funniest and most edgy
No Marlon is what I consider the most consistent. But his brothers outclassed him effortlessly
Dang they are ALL so talented…Rufus to nasa…hollering
I hear and see so much Richard Pryor
I never noticed that.
04:24 that NASA joke is genius.
This is one of the best SNL monologues I've ever seen and it only has 70,000 views. Ridiculous
"Rufus to Massa" 😂💀😂
The black guys in band behind him are like, "damn, he's right."
Can't believe how alike he & jr are
I can here after watching the Club Shay Shay interview.
Faccs
Damon Wayans is that guy.
Rufus to MASA...Rufus to MASA..
In all seriousness, this was a classic 90s episode....
“Change the name to NASA” was brilliant. This one could still kill with today’s generation in the audience.
He missed a joke. Coulda told em bring in Leon Jackson for the next crash test dummy lmao damn.
Hahaha. The full embodiment of courage and bravery. Eye 'ppreciate you man. You did that!
Damon is telling the truth
When you're not afraid to speak your truth no matter the platforms.

Fit super clean
1:24 Damon doin a split
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 The fact that only a black comedian can sell those jokes is what makes them even funnier. Damon Wayans was extremely underrated!
Haha. Surprising.
😂😂😂 He said change the name to NASA instead of Massa. 😂😂😂
I just got the joke. LOL
Change the name to NASA?!!! OMG!😂😂😂😂😂
GOAT
Well test the airbag 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
